Whoa Nelley, S-15 and not soon to be alive.
I had one, but it was a 1991 2WD S10 Tahoe with a 4.3 TBI engine. I only had it a short time and the person that gave it to me asked for it back right before I was ready to put on the road. I like these trucks. They were excellent vehicles and did the job rather well. They sold well for years, and I wish GM would offer something like them again.
Yes, recently on Mr. Magnante's channel, he featured a Gypsy (but he mentioned the wrong year, it was a 1987 as I pointed out to him, not a 1985 as he stated). Yes, a trim package for sure. The 2.8L engine was reliable, but a bit of a dog. But the 4.3L was a bit thirsty. 1988 was the first year for the 4.3L. Overall, these were very good trucks, and they ran forever. Rust ate them alive many times. This one looked pretty good, but maybe the transmission gave up the ghost. Pre-1989 THM700R4 transmissions had weak pumps and often failed way before their time. They can be corrected by using updated parts in the rebuild, which is what GM did in production.
We got the VIN, we win: 1GK for US made GMC multipurpose truck, C for 4,001 to 5,000 # Gross Vehicle Weight Rating with hydraulic brakes, T for 4WD compact chassis, 8 for MPV, R for 2.8L V6 with throttle body fuel injection aka "The Little Engine That Could", aka RPO code "LL2", 6 is a check digit, J for the 1988 model year, 8 for Shreveport, Louisiana assembly, and the rest is the production sequence. The Shreveport facility operated from 1981 until 2012. Part of the facility is used by Hyundai now as a distribution center.
We got the SPID, glad you did: AU3 for power locks, A31 for power windows, CD4 for delay wipers, C49 for rear defogger, C60 for AC, K34 for cruise control, LL2 for 2.8L V6 with TBI, aka "TLETC", MD8 for THM700R4 four speed automatic overdrive transmission, NA5 for standard Federal emissions, N33 for tilt steering wheel, SLA for Shreveport, LA assembly, 67L for Saddle lower exterior paint, 19U for Black upper exterior paint, Z88 for GMC "conversion", YC3 for GMC Gypsy package, 60B for Beige Cloth interior trim, TT10516 for GMC (T) four wheel drive compact chassis (T) 1/2 ton (105), two door utility (16), 100 is the truck's wheelbase in inches, among other codes.
Whoa Nelley, Vaquero no es bueno. Z88 used to be great. "Little Engine That Could" will soon be no good. That's it, time to quit. YC3 and it's over for thee. "Riding out on a horse in a star-studded rodeo" and this one has to go. TBI going bye-bye. VIN code "R" not going very far. Rhinestone Cowboy by Glen (Campbell) and this one is meeting the end. Made in the Bayou and it's over for you. Going to be flat and that's that. RPO code "LL2" and it's just about through. Going to get squished, and many here, perhaps Benny, but certainly the Google Man are going to be very, very, very, very, very pissed.

This was the top of the line S-15 Jimmy. Not many of them out there due to them being so expensive back in the day. They were at least $5,000 more than the mid grade Sierra Classic which was the most popular trim choice. This one is well deserving a full restoration due to its rarity.

Man I love the body styles on that Jimmy other than the jeeps in the '90s and early 2000 Cherokees I love the Jimmy's in that body style they are my favorite 4x4s that one look like it could be restored and put back on the road again have a great video.

I had an 1989 version - same gold/black paint scheme. S15 GMC Jimmy Gypsy. It had the optional digital dash was super high tech for the time..
Mine had rubber moldings around the wheel wells which collected water and rusted so I removed them. I see this one had them removed also.
That 4.3L was a great engine. The 4x4s had an oil filter relocation kit which moved it from where one the 4x4 driveshafts went to behind one of the headlights. (passenger side?). That made changing the filter a breeze.
The "O" ring on the adapter that screwed into the original location gave out on mine one day - and dumped almost all of the oil onto the driveshaft - giving the bottom a nice oil spray.
It would occasionally get stuck in FWD mode and wouldn't shift out due to a sensor that needed replacing.
Seeing this picture brings back happy memories - pity the interior of this one looks like crap now.

You can tell whoever had the Jimmy took good care of it as evidenced by the interior, trim level, body, and a set of Michelin tires. It's too bad that it ended up there. It's too hard to tell if rust was a factor or if it had a title issue. It looks to have been under a carport for awhile.
Hope you are able to save something off it like the steering wheel or emblem! What a waste. Big Al's Bike and Auto would've been all over that!

With the A/C box already gone, it's ready for a V8 swap. Make it 2WD. Take an LT1 from a late 90's Caprice, Impala, Roadmaster, Fleetwood, Camaro, or Firebird. It would probably fit great and be just enough power in stock form to make it fun. Either with the 4L60E or a manual. Automatic would be easier. Easier to program the PCM too
