Harold's Deal With Ursula (Workprint vs DVD) | The Little Mermaid

- this is a deleted scene from the little mermaid, the one from the workprint is slightly different from the one on the 2023 diamond edition dvd, so i thought i'd make a video comparing the two! the scene features a merman, named harold, who made a deal with ursula. he is given strength, and has to bring ursula a fresh waterlilly within 3 days. it turns out they aren't in season. and he is turned into a polyp, now in ursula's garden. im almost certain the scratch vocals for harold are done by the little mermaid composer, alan menken!

This would make Ursula even more terrifying if it was her introduction scene - like before even noticing Ariel's wandering around. It would give the audience a ramped-up sense of danger and terror, to what Ursula's true colors are like.
My boy Harlod wasn't in the live action 😭✊️ They should have included him. Justice for my boy but it makes sense because Ursula doesn't have the polyps in that one but still give him light of day.
Ikr
He was mentioned in the book Poor Unfortunate Soul by Serena Valentino
Well in the old script, Harold was seen breaking free from the Ursula's spell, in the live action, he'd probably be dead.
Legit surprised they didn't have her laughing as he transformed.
me too!
@@justyourvoice Especially given how much she loves playing with her victims.
And he does actually live on in the original film- there’s a polyp with glasses there supposedly meant to be him. Does make you wonder how Triton didn’t notice so many of his people going missing and we don’t even know how long for!
that's very true!
well he is pretty much mentioned in the song "This one wants to get a girl"
This is a original character but a cut from the original little mermaid
Harold: " wait i just need a little more time😨"
* Ursula waits 3 seconds*
Ursula:" Times up Harold😏".
If the jury would look closer you'll see that the contract was indeed legal, binding & completely unbreakable. Harold was the one in the wrong as he hadn't read the fine print
Good job!
He asked me they should’ve also include that mermaid from the song with him
Love You Ariel live action❤❤💛💛🥰🥰😍😍
I wonder where this scene came in? After Ursula's second scene when we see her polyp garden for the first time
Apparently it was supposed to flash to this scene when Ariel and Flounder are going to the palace after exploring the ship. Or somewhere around there. Maybe after when she meets the human? Only basing on a brief glimpse of her you see from another video on this channel I think.
in the full workprint, it takes place during the scene where ariel and flounder go back to the palace, which was was replaced by ursula's introduction scene in the final movie.
@@justyourvoice really? So that was her original intro? Odd
@@justyourvoice Oh wow! I wonder how that would have transformed the movie had they kept the "way they introduced her" in Poor Unfortunate Souls intact. Like, we know what's going to happen but there it goes happening again, and how, as opposed to why.

1:08 (1988 Workprint) Time’s up, Harold.
2:13 (2013 Diamond Edition) Time’s up, Harold.
If only the merfolk had a greenhouse, he probably could have gotten a fresh water lilly! 😸
That's the catch, Ursula knew he couldn't provide it so that's what she asked from him, she thought Ariel will be unable to make Eric kiss her, so that's why she turned into Vanessa.
Can you make a playlist of these work print scenes.
I have a demo but i cant send you
what is the demo of? and can you email me?
Who's Harold?
a deleted character from the little mermaid
@@justyourvoice Makes sense
I thought you were referring to Herald the seahorse at first (the one who announces Triton and Sebastian at the concert). I was like “WHAT?! That doesn’t look like a seahorse!”
Oh i thought he was the man that wants to get the girl..
@@ohanakiddos4599 yeah
What. Was the deal
