i had 3 cayman in my life my 1st was the 1st cayman s 2006 3rd in italy , 2nd 2.7 cayman , 3rd 2.9 white with stripes ah what memories and now im going to buy again but with pdk i have an audi r8 and audi a1 and cayman go to replace a1 so audi r8 and cayman 2,9 pdk daily perfect !
Just buy a low mileage well optioned pre-owned one with a Porsche certified extended warranty and let the prior owner absorb the significant depreciation.
Easily Porsche's best looking car! In fact one of the best looking sports cars on the market full stop! Little details like the way the rear integrated spoiler blends into the rear reversing lights, along with its more muscular shoulders. Yes this is where my money would go. I wonder how much Porsche would give me in a part ex for my 1991 Nisan Micra?
That is what they are trying to do. They know there are a lot of people out their with families that could not justify the money for say a 911 on its own but they could justify a Cayman and still be able to buy a family car. I currently drive an RS5 and I am serious considering a Cayman as I can justify it to my wife and family and replace our other family car.
Porsches best looking car and could be there highest performing if they wanted it to be but it wont because of they want to keep the 911s heritage as the flagship
The platform can’t compare to a 911 without pretty much an entire redesign, the back end would need widening to have tyres near the width of a 911 and mid engines means awd is impossible, I see this being said a lot but it’s simply a lesser platform, nothing wrong with that it’s still a fantastic car but there’s no kidding it’s better than a 911, at least not without some serious modification, pretty much redesign the back end from scratch like RUF did.
Oh Matt. You are saying Cayman is expensive at 40k but here in Denmark you are lucky if you can find a hothach at that price. The Golf GTI costs around 45,000£
I don't know how good of a car this is(i bet it's great) but i think its one of the, if not the best looking modern Porsche. This is the first Porsche i liked looking at, to me most of the others looked like a big beetle.
I just constantly have to think, why would you buy 458, mclaren or R8, when this have good enough performance, but is more useable and have manual gearbox, which is the only gearbox cars should have. I guess, some people just want more of everything and supercars represent different image.
I would. I just said, that I would preffer 458 over it. But it would be in second place. But, if R8, even if I left it last, had manual, I would just go for it :D
The Cayman's a very good car but the option list is its main problem: I can't spend 60,000€ for a car and have to pay extra for the navigation system, which doesn't even include bluetooth, or the floor mats, parking sensors or leather interior. Yes, it's a good sports car but it's overpriced. What about the 3,000€ for the sport exhaust system?!? At this price, I'd much rather have an Alfa 4C, and the money I'd spend for the options on the Cayman will be used for a Fiat 500 as a daily driver, enjoying the Alfa in the weekends. Obviously that's my point of view, but anytime I configure a Cayman I start at 65,000€ and end up at nearly 100,000.
the cayman starts at 53k dollars, 40k pounds or 52k euros. why would you want leather as standard? who put that in you mind? leather is to hot in the summer and to cold in the winter. alcantara is much better for a sports car and alcantara is standard. park assist costs 500 euro. hardly to overpriced is it? but this car is so small everyone who didn't win his drivers license in the lottery should be able to park it. after all it's a drivers car! if you demand leather, parking assist and full electronic integration you should probably look for executive cars. this is a sports car!! people who buy true sports cars don't want all this nonsense. but if you like it the options are surprisingly cheap. 500 euros for the park assist, 650 euros for bluetooth, floor mats 100 euro and sport exhaust for 500 euro. the sport exhaust system for 3k is for people who don't care about money. the normal exhaust is perfect as it is. even if you live inside the nurburgring it won't break down. so the 500 euro exhaust is fine for you. 1750 euro in total for your options. that's nothing. cheap as fuck. this car is a bargain.
swunt10 Mmh, actually not that cheap, or that much of a bargain. I mean, I really like to configure cars online, even just for fun, and I built the Cayman S a lot of times, ending always at almost 100k. Because actually this isn't a proper driver's car, it's just a generic high-performance sports car. When I think of analogic driver's cars, I think of Lotus, the new Alfa 4C, or the previous Cayman R. In those cars, necessarily matched with another one as a daily driver, I'm pretty good with leaving out heated electrically operated seats, the auto box, adaptive headlamps, parking radar and so on, because their main focus is mere driving pleasure. I get your point, but I see the Cayman as an everyday driver much more than other sports cars, so I would include executive options such as those I mentioned, and be surprised that for the 65k of the S I don't even get a navigator as standard, or the mats. I see what you mean: you could easily live without many of those options in a sports car, but then I wouldn't buy the Porsche which, sporty as it gets, feels much more executive to me than a genuine naked sports car like, here it goes again, a Lotus. It's just a matter of preferences, but to me the Cayman and the 4C can be compared just concerning performance. Else, they're two completely different cars, and I'd equip the Cayman just like an executive sedan. I know I'm wrong, but I can do nothing to it, I just would! :D
At 3:41 you can see Matt pulling on the lever behind the steering wheel although this car is a manual, he's getting real used to the paddle shifters XD
WHAT? 40,000 gbp for a Cayman!!?? That's the same price as a Camry in my country! How is this expensive? I want to move to the UK right away.. why does everyone NOT have a Cayman in the UK by now?
The basic Cayman starts at 115 000 pounds here in Mauritius, lucky brits. At 44 000 pounds, you can get a Mercedes C180 though, but the C and E class are just everywhere on the roads here...
I have those Cayman S wheels on my base 981 and yes they are noisy with the Pzero N spec tyres. I recently changed to Michelin PSS and it is so much better even with wider tyres than stock and 18 " rim size the tyre noise is way better and also handles better than with the 19" ones.
My friend says Porsche's are usually cars for women, considering their small size, when I told him this is the one I wanted, he changed his mind. This is one of the best Porsche's I've seen!
Watson ive been waiting forever for this review! Wow, the cayman is soooooo epic and such an awesome looking car. ill go as far as to say, given the mid engine layout, it outshines the 911! And yes Porsche is annoying for giving u expensive and ridiculous options but they are one of the few car companies that put driving first, all else is second, third, fourth and so forth and so on.....
I can't believe such a passionate and appropriate comment has gone unappreciated in 8 years!! Well, it's YT and it happens. So here I am, dropping a deserved like it on it. 👍
It is a stunning car! i just got my gt4 not a long time ago and i think i prefer my 2015 gt4 cayman to my lamboghini hurcan the cayman just so much fun to drive
Well now the production of Cayman and Boxter is stopped (Porsche has gone woke and all electric). But the cheapest Cayman did cost about 120.000 £ here in Norway right before they closed all new sales.
For the price of a new 911 convertible, I bought a Cayman S, and a new Morgan for open top motoring. I'm laughing. Love them both. Had a 911. Very unforgiving when pushed hard. Mid engine over rear engine any day of the week.
I was thinking of buying this for my first car in 4 or 5 years. 52 grand is much lower than I thought it'd cost. Can you switch the driving from manual to automatic? I do not like stick.
***** What I would only change would probably be the Color, make seats electronic, and get better tires. Maybe 4 four seats, but that'd be it. I'd estimate 59k? Maybe 60K. At least my parents will help me pay for it, although not too much of the cost.
I have a 2001 Aussie MX5 that has cost me to date $20K. It would out performe the Boxter, out handle it and has just as much kit in it without coffing up an extra 10,000 Pounds.
I did test drive a MX5 with only 150hp engine, I was impressed how well it performed :) But it was to nervous and to much of a go-cart for my taste, and 0 space for luggage unlike the Cayman that have impressively much room for luggage . If I could have afford having more then 1 car then maybe MX5 could be one of them for occasional fun, but it is not so much for daily driving. I did drive 1100km to go to a wedding and test drive a 3,4l Porsche Cayman, maid appointment and all... But when I arrived at the dealership it was closed after 2 hours drive to get there from where I was staying. And day after I got message that the car had been sold. Typical my luck...
I just swapped a Lexus GS for one of these, so a Bentley would have seemed loud to me but I'd say it's similar to something like a VW Polo in terms of tyre noise, it's not ridiculous at all. Exhaust noise isn't an issue below 2k RPM, so about 75mph if you're cruising. Past that the spoiler goes up and every police car within 5 miles knows you're speeding...
I like this version better than the 718. Porsche isn't known for having a mean gritty look, so I'm not sure why they're going for that now. Just doesn't fit
After 7 years i managed to buy it🥰
Congrats brother 🙏🏼
one day youll be mine, Porsche...
I'm shooting for 2 years time. Good luck bro.
Just got mine, it's fantastic!
Dou you have a Porsche yet?
Did you get it ?
i had 3 cayman in my life my 1st was the 1st cayman s 2006 3rd in italy , 2nd 2.7 cayman , 3rd 2.9 white with stripes ah what memories and now im going to buy again but with pdk i have an audi r8 and audi a1 and cayman go to replace a1 so audi r8 and cayman 2,9 pdk daily perfect !
This is the most beautiful Porsche. Accept it.
joku tyyppi right after the 911.
No its just becuase its so cheeeeep
Suomi
Anton Zuykov I swear these cars are like 15k If you buy a used one in Canada
This and the Boxter are such great and underrated Porsches, love it
1:16 : Well that will come in handy for sure!
Just buy a low mileage well optioned pre-owned one with a Porsche certified extended warranty and let the prior owner absorb the significant depreciation.
Problem is that the depreciation is minimal

This is probably the best review you guys have done. I love seeing some of that sideways action. And dat cayman.. 😍
Oh Matt. You are saying Cayman is expensive at 40k but here in Denmark you are lucky if you can find a hothach at that price. The Golf GTI costs around 45,000£

That girl is so random haha
If I could afford a 991 I would buy a Cayman
Buy a GT2 996 or GT3 RS 4.0 997.
I could afford both and went for the Cayman. Very glad I did. 11,000 miles later in 10 months and sold it for more than I paid for it. Win.
I love the fact it hasn't changed much since it's very first cars
You see before I think the 911 was worth the extra money, but now the Cayman is better than ever I'd take a Cayman even if I could afford the 911
This is why they made it a flat 4
God I love Porsche, there is no substitute

I would have problems in choosing between458 or R8 or MP4. But finally I think I would go for MP4. Then 458 (but only speciale) and then R8 V10.
I'd probably go with normal 458, if I have to choose. But if R8 has simple manual, I'd take it with a heartbeat.
What about MP4?! You don't even consider it? :D Come on! It's awesome at every point! Maybe the sound is it's weakness... but everything else!
I would. I just said, that I would preffer 458 over it. But it would be in second place. But, if R8, even if I left it last, had manual, I would just go for it :D

The Audi R8 does come with a manual, but that`s only on the V8 model.
"such a super sharp car to drive"... first time i heard such a compliment from Matt to a car

You life in Germany or where it is so cheap ? D=
Pienimusta the cayman costs 52.500 dollars in the US, 39.700 pounds in the UK and 51.500 euro in germany.
swunt10 ...I need to move to some country which has no car taxes... xD
the cayman starts at 53k dollars, 40k pounds or 52k euros.

Cayman is way better than the 911. Porsche will never admit it, but that's the truth.
Robertas agreed on so many levels
Ya its better
On the price
Anton Zuykov then just put the engine to the middle then and it can be sell as 911 too right ?
WHAT? 40,000 gbp for a Cayman!!?? That's the same price as a Camry in my country! How is this expensive? I want to move to the UK right away.. why does everyone NOT have a Cayman in the UK by now?
Cause everyone doesn’t have 40k 😂
It costs too much to fix if anything goes wrong trust me I own an Audi sline sport :)
Uk is very expensive, tax insurance petrol repairs etc adds an extra 5k per year
Do you think I should change my mercedes c coupe for this?
They're very different cars, but given the choice we'd go Porsche!
youngprankster94 it's recommended!
Probably want to give the Boxster a try to make sure. All the performance you need in the real world though a 485/8 is heaven on wheels.
The basic Cayman starts at 115 000 pounds here in Mauritius, lucky brits. At 44 000 pounds, you can get a Mercedes C180 though, but the C and E class are just everywhere on the roads here...

i love porsches, but i hate porsche. the options prices are insulting
Apple of the car industry... Like apple take 1000$ just to put wheels on your MacPro computer... (cost 10 dollar at any hardware store).
I have a boxster 2004 and could afford a 911 yet the boxster overall is the more fun so I would choose boxster to drive any day.
Thanks I'm going to buy this car now
Porsche, the one and only
Not sure if I'm entirely correct, but i like how they've learnt from Top Gear
my pal had a Boxster Cayman and a 911 4S, I liked the Cayman the best
Great powerslides, Mat!
gettting a cayman s 14 plate for my 21st been working for it since i was 17
Dream car , A car you can drive everyday
My friend says Porsche's are usually cars for women, considering their small size, when I told him this is the one I wanted, he changed his mind. This is one of the best Porsche's I've seen!
I think you need to find a new friend.
Eh heh, yeah a lot of his other friends say he's a dick too.
Funny that people say the same about the VW Beetle (the new one) the car Porsche design is based on, that it's a car for girls
911 is no longer related to the Beetle which is know a Golf.
Tbh... your friend has a point.
This might actually be the first decent looking Porsche.
The new Cayman does look almost completely different from the old Cayman and from all other old Porsches, doesn't it?
Mat Watson here from carwow

Very nice but at £40k I'd be tempted to get a used Nissan GTR, as if I could ever afford either :(
Well now the production of Cayman and Boxter is stopped (Porsche has gone woke and all electric). But the cheapest Cayman did cost about 120.000 £ here in Norway right before they closed all new sales.
Love the sear combo.
Great video Mat.
love that car so much. Best porsche on the market, I'd buy a yellow GT4 with a MANUAL gearbox and I would love it to death.
My dream car 2019..
Would this be an ideal everyday car ?
Steven T from everything I’ve read and seen...yes! Later this year I’ll let you know.
I wish the links worked! Great review
You guys should do a review of the new 2014 Nissan qashqui
It’s a younger Carwow guy
For the options, you will also want ceramic brakes, and you will want the advanced onboard computer, and both of that sets you back 11.000 euro.
I think you should review the rs5 and the rs7

I wouldn't buy this car if you want it in automatic. Its a small sports car; getting that one in automatic kind of defeats the purpose.
I changed my mind, stick may be more difficult, but I'd like to drive stick actually.
for your first car?seriously?you must be rich already to consider this a car you can buy at first..
Rich? Please, I wish I was rich, the amount of money in my wallet comes to a total of $2.54. I am rich in spirit however.
good job, Bob
911 is the boss, but I would love to have a Cayman S, it's brillant!! (I'll start saving..)
Unlike with the old model, I really like the Boxster better... Or does it just need a real color to impress?
No problems with the cupholders, headliner, etc. like the guy in the other cayman ? What did you call an umbrella in your language ?
Matt you should have put Rebeca in the front Glove box oops i mean front boot.
I'm guessing that Bob and his army won the war against Google!
Always wanted a Porsche since I was a kid, the 911 still remains out of my league as a cash buy unfortunately but this Cayman is just about do able.
Just a question im new to cars and im still a teenager... are the cayman 2008 and 2013 the same thing ? Or have they been out for a long time now ?
A manual gearbox in a 981 Cayman review! Saints be praised!
Do a review of the Cadillac Escalade!
Mate you had me at 8 seconds into the video
My first car once I'm done with high school. Not bad
have you reviewed maybe the Panamera?
It would be perfect to make comparison with Miss Panamera. That is nice car
The 2.9 base model is the best Porsche today. It has no DFi, which every new Cayman, Boxster and 911 has. Play it safe get a 2.9.
I liked the umbrella holder jajajaa
5:09 Best way to express your anger over the price .... :D

I'm not sure how tall you are Matt, but I'm wondering would a person 6'3 fit in it comfortably? It looked cramped inside. Nice car tho!
thank
that must have been really fun
cayman is basically a hard top version of the boxster despite what the marketing men all tell you
Carbuyer, are you starting to actually talk about prices more?
Matts the best.
Classy and sporty that's the cayman
very good looking porsche
Do reviews on the lotus's cars please...
bloody good review.
How much would be a good deal on a used 2012 cayman S?
His accent really completes this video
is this the anthracite brown or agate grey?
I'm sure he said he prefered the manual in the boxster but is this he says the auto?
Love the cayman
I have a 2016 BMW 328i and I want to get ta new car a Porsche and suggestions
I like that porsche coz its cool and its mid engine performance car with 2 boot hatches
I’m going to come back here when i have this car for me
"Ginger beer ". Naughty mat.!!
Best part 1:17 haha
i like the "sims" background music.. =]
It's a bargain sports car, specked at £50k, still a steal compared to an entry 911
Is the Cayman really that loud in the interior??
Yes in mine only when sport button is pushed (I have the sport tips option not full sports exhaust option). Not sure about the sports exhaust.
I just swapped a Lexus GS for one of these, so a Bentley would have seemed loud to me but I'd say it's similar to something like a VW Polo in terms of tyre noise, it's not ridiculous at all. He says base Cayman is 2.7L, but they went to 2.9L in '09.
Looks like they went back to a 2.7 in 2012,there's no 2.9 in the current range
Ryan Youngson Thanks for the correction.
