    Great vid as always! Dad hired some mechanic to rotate the sun gears at 3500 hours on his 756 versatile and they were showing wear then. It only has alittle over 6000 hours now and all it's done the last few years is pull our sprayer but maybe I should tare into it as well. Take care

    The wear on that sun gear is exactly what would have expected. I would not have turned those gears but thrown them away. The reason why the sun gears wear is because simply the teeth experience more work, probably five or six times more than the internal gear. The planets are bigger, have more teeth but are subject to a different fatigue load. As a tooth gets a load from the sun gear in one direction when that same tooth, half a revolution later transmits its load to the internal gear, the bending is in the other direction. Planets are subjected to very damaging fatigue loads so crack test them very carefully. We blew a planet and it smashed the internal gear and cant find another. I have been making close ratio gearboxes for over 30 years. Although you might be annoyed at having to replace those sun gears, think of it like a tyre, they do a hell of a lot of work and didn't smash but wore out. We all know how a sliced tyre is such a waste. Same deal. Stuff that wears out is much better than something that catastrophically fails. I think i will have to make a new internal gear for the TW15 this winter.

    always a pleasure watching especially when having to look at your mug. It's always nice to put a face to the voice that we hear. Heres a little something for you. So sitting around doing my self-isolation and I get a call from somebody at the Health Dept asking the usual questions regarding the VIRUS. Telling me that their latest satellite flypast of my neighbourhood was showing a large cloud formation over where I live. Well, when they tell me that it is showing signs of large amounts of B.O. then asked me If I was taking the proper method of body cleansing I replied with a loud and positive YES. after hanging up with them it was then that I realized that my plan on saving money and not spending it on deodorant just took a great big flight out the fucking window

    If you just turn the centre gear around you achieve the same thing, the 3 sun gears are loaded on both sides of the teeth anyway. You don’t get a “new” side on them.

    • @ivanmoreau1798
      @ivanmoreau1798 4 года назад

      If you swap planetaries to the other side you will be pulling on the opposite side of the gears in them. We swap the axle shafts sides for the same reason.
