The irony, I wanted skar audio subs and amp in Mk4 GTI and was looking for a video to learn how to make a fiberglass box for the finished project. Guess what that means. This was meant for me. In other words That's Happening. Thanks for inspiring me. Keep it up 🍾🍾🤞🤙
wow, that was awesome. although due to RUclips, we couldn't hear the original music, you did show that it works very nice. loved the "thump" it did to your shirt.. Great job. Go ahead and send it to me :D
Thanks Shane! , Its a fun project and we got more videos we are working on with that box, Marbleizing should show people a cool way to take a plain box and turn it into that next level stuff. That music issue was a first for me but I got how it worked fast so it taught me I need to play royalty free music on my systems from now on and then people will get to see it. And Ill put it in the mail to you LOL.
No not a brand here in the states that I see , but it does remind me of some of our brands, Massive Audio comes to mind when I looked up their product.
Looks great, for what it is!!! I am sure it sounds great as well! Question for you, well a couple that maybe you can answer. I am in the process of making a Fiberglass box, aside from the bottom which is MDF, the rest is Fiberglass molded into the trunk side well. When doing the Fiberglass "front" to meet the "back fiberglass" the fiberglass does not want to "bend" over to overlap onto the back. Any suggestions? It wants to bubble and not lay down well. It seems to be sealed well, but I don't want to risk it. 2nd Question: When doing Carpet on a box, any suggestions on glue? I don't have a spray gun, but hear that the canned stuff is not as good as others. I have also seen someone brush on a glue as well. Suggestions? 3rd and Final: As we are using Carpet, do I really need to bondo the face of it? The Fiberlass is a bit lumpy, so going to sand it, but do we need to also do Bondo since no paint is involved? Thanks!
It sounds like you built your sides up before you did the top ? Typically we build it up against the side wall of the trunk. The one thing I hate about youtube is we cannot post pictures to show a true visual but If Im picturing your box right you are trying to connect the top of the back to the front of the box and your cloth is drooping?
+UCC6669 I just saw the other 2 questions lol. Sorry about that. Unbacked carpet is a must for Fiberglass and it will hide quite a lot of lumps. And use contact cement in a gun works as spray but since you don't have a gun it can be rolled on. Put it on both surfaces let it get tacky. Put it in place and only when you know it's right press firm and it's stuck!
how do you figure the math on porting? love to see a video just on that. planning a bandpass build with two zvx skar 18's and I need a oil help with the math. I have 52 inches wide to work with and 24 deep height isn't a issue. thx
+Daniel Deleuw bandpass math is a whole different beast than ported. You have 2 chambers to determine. I'm not sure hey someone would choose 2 18" subwoofers with a bandpass setup but that's my logic of thinking. If you want to do strickly SPL in such a narrow range of frequency that would be a good choice but typically your playing the same 3 songs for people for the next 2 years it seems. Maybe a small idea of what your total plan is so I can better advise you on your build. And I feel a lot of people have different ideas of what a bandpass is. Sealed enclosure on the front side ported on the back is typically what we refer to as a bandpass where as when we are in the dB lane it's a whole different setup but still a bandpass. So again just a better description of what your doing so I can better advise. And your right I think s video on ported enclosures would be good. I'll keep that in mind as we're working on boxes and try to show the difference between the other enclosures rather than talk like most videos. Proof is in the pudding.
I am not competing with this build. I listen to a wide range of music so I figured the bandpass would be the best having a sealed box inside a posted box. I am old school all current equipment is foagate and from the 90's. I use to run 18's back in the day and figured since I had the space why not. Powering them will be a fosgate t2500.1bd so there is a good amount of power there. I have a old sri box if u remember them from the 90's (out of Montana) with a single 12 it picks up a wide scope of music front half tuned to 72hrtz the main chamber to 45hrtz. Just wanting to go big one more time.
I use Google sketch up to build the box on my computer. With 18's everything will be doubled and braced with corner 45 cut. The box I had planned would need tweaked for the correct airspace but is 54Wx26Dx23H. The port diameter I had mocked up was a ten inch square port. I planed to bring the front of the port out words depending upon frequency but there is we're I am stuck. May be I can up load a picture.
Quick question... what was the tuning # after you built it? It looked like you did not cover the top of the port on the inside all the way to the end of the port? Great job on the out come on the build. keep it up boss
It was 38 HZ on the back port landing into a 32 HZ, I have an upcoming video talking about porting it seems to be the biggest questions ask in the comments section so I feel it deserves some dedicated time, as I will also be talking about it during some upcoming videos. This is a 2 stage port and I totally skipped discussing it on the first video because it seems the internet generation just knows 1 port, Back in the day we used these ports alot and the easiest way to do them is treat them as 2 ports and let them play as 1. Now on the front port becuase of the fiberglass its hard to gaurentee the accuracy of 32 HZ because the way the fiberglass was shaped but using packing peanuts the volume of the port was almost dead on so give it 32 (+ or - 2 HZ)
Thanks for the response... Im looking forward to watch the next one. I'm just thinking the first section of the port is to get the air in line with the actual 2 portion of the the port to produce the final frequency. Is that close to correct? again thanks for sharing your knowledge and videos
in a way your logic is right but it's rather than wrong or right just a totally different solution. it does affect the final frequency delivered to the port but it's purpose is for port noise and over extension of the woofer at low bass frequencies. The smaller woofers or even cheaper larger woofers do not do well at delivering a good xmax so we use this technique to help them achieve the results.
Hows the sq in these little subs? And are they loud enough to be heard outside the car? If so abouf how far away can you hear them from? I know these arent spl woofers, just wondering
These Skar audios I play in the video really are lack luster compared to other offerings, If I were going to go for a small 6.5 inch subwoofer Id recommend the Massive Audio 6.5 sumo woofer. That thing can get down and are pretty cheap also. Seems after 4 or more you start to hear them coming, I have a customer that has 8 of the Sumo 6.5s in a dodge truck and it flexes the windows on lows, Id equate it to about 2 mean 15s when he pulls up.
I may not upload all the time but Im already trying to keep comments live and showing im active, I have new videos coming :) , With that said I looked at the CT Meso 6.5 , good looking subwoofer and it looks like they approached the woofer the same way as the DD506 which is a woofer Im familiar with. The Massive Sumo will drop lows better, seems to throw further than it claims with no audible noise. It comes in cheaper than that Meso but by no means am I saying the Meso did not look good from specs it just seems the same approach as Digital Designs and it works but I've tried both and I think the Massive takes the DD506.
Random Audio Guy ok. Im really considering the massive audio now. I wanted the digital designs a while back, but it was hard and expensive to get a hold of anything from them
I have to dub threes subwoofers 12-inch Subs how much would it cost to have you build me a box like that I have 2 12 inch subwoofers made by W3 JL Audio I was wondering how much would it cost me to have you build me one like that and I have a 1994 Volkswagen Jetta with a 2.0 engine size 5 speed manual if that helps and no I don't have no back seat at all I converted my car to a two-seater sports car
That's why we show you how to do it. We do not build boxes and ship them, we currently only offer speaker boxes to be sold at our store location. If you decide to build one and would like some help please feel free to ask, that is what we are here for to support our subscribers and help them along the way.

I recorded all this video a week ago and RUclips muted my video so I had to go back and cover up the real music that was playing so you would have heard the bass was clean. This is a 2 staged port if you watch our how to fiberglass speaker box series you will see it starts out thin and falls into a larger chamer, If you look at the top of the port you will see it has a down curve, Thats all for a reason. If you want to know a subwoofer is doing good than look at its travel and control, It had nice throw and stopped in between notes, You don't even have to hear a subwoofer play if you get to see video of it move and know what to look for.. Keep in mind these EVL subs are not SPL woofers they actually have a really good SQL factor about them. But I can arrange another video in the future now that I learned how RUclips background music works with copyrighted material. And Ill download some royalty free music and play on there so you get to hear the subwoofers. Thanks for the feedback.
No problem man thats what were hear for and we do like the feedback. I do wish at times people could hear it in person without all these copyright issues of playing music. I would not post a box that sounded bad. Its very clean and at one poiint you can see it bouncing the table it was sitting on.
+Brad McIntire that's a fair question. So they don't stand behind their product. They try every way they can out of warranty. They left one wholesaler owning 40k to them. They have broken baskets on woofers that they blame the consumer for. And they come out of the box broken. As in the basket that holds the surround is physically broken. They blame ups when you can see they came from China that way. Just do a Google search and look into the owner Kevin and you'll see its not 1 person complaining it's the entire industry.

Because only God knows why !! awesome video guys.

PS, the original music is Bruno Mars and Lil Wayne doing "Looking into the Mirror" And the second song was Kid Rock " Only god knows why"
This video is pointless because it's just background music the whole time
have you used any Bassface products yet? UK brand their SPL10.2's for small enclosures are awesome?

Yep, and a H2 Hummer and a Ford Focus and a Dodge Ram and I'm looking at a Tesla, your point ?
@@RandomAudioGuys 1 of the best budget subs available. Give ur head a shake.
The Skar evil 6.5 is easily bested by the Massive audio 6.5 sumo if your looking for one of the best budget 6.5s
@@RandomAudioGuys 2-3x the price. Terrible comparison.
