I realize a lot of us are entranced watching the later Freddie Mercury "strut" on the stage, but here, in the early stuff Freddie more resembles becoming one with the actual 'beat' of the music. He's moving, not dancing, but moving as the music moves. I just love how he does it. It's mesmerizing.
Live at the Rainbow and Odeon still completely blow me away! With talent like theirs, performing live, they are just unleashed, to project their voices and instruments at their best, etc! The rawness, imperfect but still phenomenal, etc! WHOA! Freddie and Brian especially I think are fashion chameleons, they can pull off pretty much any look! I especially love their glam costumes and their Zandra Rhodes tunics and other outfits up till the early '80s!
Hi Debora, it still amazes me that John Deacon was a mere 23 years old when this was filmed...such brilliant bass playing.....John, I hope you’re keeping well 🌺
I love everything about this live performance. But something I just noticed recently is after Johns bass solo right before Brian kicks back in Freddie is leaning back and sticks his left fist out pointing at Brian and he squats down and starts playing. Love how they all work together.
Sorry can't help myself ! Really in full athletic strut mode though and the connection between the band and the audience is really starting to become evident. It is so much fun watching them grow with you. So glad you came back. Your knowledge and passion really is intoxicating
Omg. Love this version. John riffing. Great vocal. Roger fabulous. Brian always brings out the best. Lyrics speak for themselves. I don’t think there is a hidden message there, although it was first called Lover. When asked of John if he is going to do any solo stuff, he answers, never, I can’t sing. My anxieties today, just floated away watching this “with you”.
Thank you so much Darc Helmut for your analysis!! I love this performance for many reasons but the one that sticks out is Freddie & John singing together on the bridge. I believe it was Freddie who encouraged John to sing with him. And John’s slappin’ the bass? Wow! But anyway, Freddie is magnificent! Sorry I’m late to the reaction but still catching up on your Queen videos!! 👏 👑 👑 💞
My friend, there is no need to justify utilising this video in particular. The Rainbow performance of Liar is outstanding and the obvious choice for this purpose! You're doing the right thing in the live videos you choose because where there is a choice, it's always best to choose the top version! All the new Queen fans that may discover your content, and see a great, informative and interesting way to get through their massive catalogue, deserve to see the best live versions available because hey, it's Queen and what they could/can do should be shown to the world. On loop lol. I don't usually watch 'revew' channels as I prefer to see first timers become fans, but I'm digging what you're doing and after almost 40 years of Queen obsession even I am learning still. Thanks.
Appreciate the kind words GTM5. I like the first reaction channels as well. But I figured I best find my own niche. Don't think I could fool anyone with first reactions to Queen! :P
@@Sneak65 looks to me like at least some of the live stuff will be first time for probably both of us! Some rare gems lay ahead, but I certainly still haven't mined RUclips fully!
@@grandtheftmanualv945 There are a few live video's I have not watched. Mostly because the quality is bad. So I mostly stick to the remastered stuff like Rainbow, Hammersmith, Montreal, Wembley etc.
John: i can't sing! Also John: all day long! All day long! Freddie: Liar!😅😅 For me John's solo slapping the bass is the Gem of this live performance ! I always love 70's Queen. Their Teamwork on stage is always enchanting !They always killed it! Thanks sir Darc 🤟 Great video and insight ,as always!
I like the scaled back stuff. Bryan Adams is one of my favorite singers (another Canadian) he did a tour back in 2000 where it was him on bass, Mickey Curry on drums and Keith Scott on guitar and it's just absolutey brilliant!
Thank you for this...can’t get enough of it....it really showcases each band member..Freddie was 28..Brian was 27...Roger was 25...and John was a mere baby, 23 years old..and he had such amazing bass playing skills...Hi John, I hope you’re keeping well🌺...once again, thank you...we can’t have too much Queen🤩
Love, love, love this one live. For me I prefer the vocals in the live performances. It’s criminal there weren’t more John/Freddie moments during their performances. I always get a kick out of how serious Brian looks during his solo. I think the smaller stages were definitely more fun.
Agree. I would go to an arena show over a big stadium every time. Can't capture the intimacy nearly as well in a massive football stadium. That said, I would happily go see them in a stadium as well! :P
I was so lucky to see Queen three times back in the eighties, but I would have loved to have seen them at this concert, love seventies Queen.

100% agree. Just doing what his body does naturally.

John was such a great bassist, so fantastic. The whole group always put on a great show. Great reaction

Are we ready Freddie ! Brilliant performance, well chosen. I think this is my favourite Freddie outfit. Those harmonies live are a thing of joy.
Showing off the chest wig! And I agree. One of his best outfits.

This has always been one of my favorite Queen live performances. And my favorite of John.

John probably took Freddie's death harder than anyone. You could tell he really looked up to him. They really had a special connection.

70's Queen is my favorite as well. They were far more diverse and experimental in the 70's.
When John Deacon was known as Deacon John lol
Go brian go .what a match made in heaven brian and Roger ,just feed of each other
The rehearsal version of this in 1973 is really great too.
Love your reviews on Queen thanks.

Never enough Queen. Thankfully they have a massive and diverse catalog of music. Plenty more to come.
8:33 full Great King Rat style!
About Freddies moves....those chunky heels probably affected him too...lol
No doubt. The things we do for fashion!
