Cycling through the beautiful countryside of Hida Furukawa is an instant highlight of 2024 ⛩️ I can’t even think of my usual sarcastic quip. It really is that bloody good 😂
@@こーこ-e6r22:13 I'm just reacting to what the cycle tour guide said. SHE said people were throwing trash into the canal, and that's why they added the Koi.
Hi Sharla! Thanks for the shoutout. I’m so glad you loved Hida Furakawa!! It’s such a gorgeous little town. I’m a Japan travel consultant and write itineraries for travelling Japan and love to encourage people to roam further. I try to get as many people as I can to go on the satoyama bike tour so it was awesome to see you both enjoy so much!!
Loved the vid, makes me really want to go visit Japan one day to see it all in person. 23:14 Isn't that a still of Garden of Words rather than Your Name btw?
Oh oops! I searched for stills of 君の名は and that came up and it looks exactly like the location we stopped on our bikes in Furukawa so I didn’t question it😂 Thanks for the correction! 🙌🏻
13:18 Chris reading out these English texts on Japanese packaging is one of my favourite things ever. 😂 The koi are sooo cute, they must be well fed. ❤
I loved seeing you and Chris have such a fun time. This definitely seems like a place I'd want to visit when I get to travel overseas. Thanks for sharing!
You two (and a few others) have inspired me to do a long, slow trip through Japan. I'm actually going through so many of your old videos and creating an itinerary to do in about 2 years. Thanks so much for videos like these!
Thanks for bringing us along on this lovely trip; nice tempo, delicious food and beautiful photography (as usual 😉). Love when you and Chris do things together❤
This is the reason I want to visit Japan so bad. The countryside, local food and crafts. The town looked absolutely gorgeous and I love how you can cook your own meals and make smoothies in the combini's. Japan is another level. So good for the soul
We did the same bike tour when my ex and I were in Japan in 2018! Brought tears to my eyes seing your there and revisit the place once again through your video. What a beautiful place. Really miss it 🥰
I LOVE Takayama. I did a trip a few years back from Nagoya to Takayama and stopped at Shirakawa-go along the way. It was fall and the perfect time to visit. Such a cool town to walk around and explore. If I ever go back, the surrounding towns look fun too!
Omg! You two made my day. I’ve had so much fun and inspiration from seeing you two explore together. Such beautiful places and people. It’s like a mini mental vacation. Greetings from Florida! 😀
I heard of the place before, but not very much. This video just made me put it on my itinerary when I go to Japan next time. Last time it was mainly the big cities and popular sites "you have to see" but next time I will go to the countryside. Hida Furakawa was really gorgeous and the surroundings was even better! I definitely will go there! I will do some hiking and camping in the mountain area in Gifu to while I'm at it. 😁 Thanks for a lovely video as always and for the inspiration! That café!!! I could live there! 😍
Now I miss Japan... Well, it's been almost 4 months since I last visited so it should be about that time to plan another trip 🤔🤔Great video Sharla, you never fail to make Japan feel welcoming 😊
I feel like I've sad it 100 times over 20 years but you guys are adorable. Thanks for sharing such a cool place and I have bookmarked them for my next trip away!
This might be one of my favorite videos you've ever done. Lots of interesting stuff I've never seen before and a really laidback and peaceful vibe throughout. I really enjoyed it!
Wowowow what a gorgeous area! Thanks so much for the tour! The inn, cycle tour, that cute as heck buffet deli, the herb place... so many amazing spots, not to mention just how pretty the area is. Also for any fish fans out there, the little fish in the jar were medaka, Japanese rice fish! It's good they sell multiple in the jar because they're social and like to live in a group and would suffer alone. They're so freaking cute and it's making me want a fish tank again lol. 🌿
These are my favorite kind of video. So relaxing and I love the pace of the vlog. You and Chris make such a perfect team and balance each other well. Stay beautiful and I look forward to the next video 🧡
Takayama was on my group trip itinerary and I didnt expect much as I didn't know it at all. When I got there I was absolutely floored and loved it!! It was one of my favourite places during the trip! So happy to see it here!
Thank you for such a lovely video! Always enjoy seeing the two of you out and about - and what a great variety of activities! Although I must admit I was waiting for you to talk about buying a house out there to renovate... ;) Thanks again for a welcome breath of fresh air for this old broad! :)
I really do not think that i could ever get tired of watching your videos. I feel like if I ever get lucky enough to make it over to Japan for a vacation I am going to need to plan on staying there for at least 2 months. In that amount of time I will be able to only make a small dent on all of the amazing things I would love to be able to do there. Between you and Chris I have moved Japan from my top 10 places I want to see bucket list to my top 5. Thank you for continuously sharing all of the beauty that Japan has to offer. Around every corner there is a new place that is just as stunning as the place before or even more stunning. I understand that these videos are the highlight reels of your trips But that is the beauty of both of your channels. You are always willing to share of a spot isn't really all that it is cracked up to be and why or why not. So, thank you for that too. I truly appreciate you both and the work that you put into your videos. On a different subject. I just have to say that I swear that you and Chris have a million and one conversations simply looking at one another without using a single word. lol obviously, I know that you do actually talk using words and your voices. Here is the one thing I am super curious about though. Sharla, when you and Chris are having a silent conversation out in public do you hear it in your mind with Chris talking with his normal non-sarcastic voice or, do you hear that 100% hands down, Chris being his sarcastic self?
Sharla, when I was in Takayama I wanted the posters that were on the shops. I wanted them so I could put them up on walls to remind me of my trip. The posters were of festivals, or local events.
Ahhhhh I absolutely love getting to see these vlogs-I so so hope I can one day visit Japan and see these beautiful sights. Thank you for sharing your trips with us!! 💕
I had to hit all the touristy spots my first trip, but I can't wait to come back and experience rural Japan. Vicariously living through these vlogs for now lol
Went to Kanazawa, Takayama, and Matsumoto last month for work related trip and absolutely fell in love with the area. That being said, I am quite amazed by the incredibly large number of tourist in the area... particularly thai people.

there is always such a casual, cozy, and homey feel with these vlogs that i feel aren't as appreciated as they should be and becoming less prevalent on youtube due to the ever changing demographic of youtube viewers but I really enjoy the short snippets (yes a ~30 minute video is short in my standards, it was a multi day outing!) we get to tag along for through these videos. looking forward to many more adventures in the future, urban or rural Japan.
Oh my gosh I was just there at Hida-Furukawa and Takayama 3 weeks ago too! Absolutely beautiful place and I had a fun time feeding the koi, just that everything else in Furukawa seemed to be closed (was there on a Saturday too, around 3pm 🤔) so it's awesome to learn more about the place through your video. Been loving you and Chris' content for the past decade, thank you for sharing your moments with us 😊❤ and also lots of love to the video from a year ago which inspired me to visit central Japan haha!
Another great video, I always enjoy seeing Chris & you having fun. In case you weren't aware, the toast & jam Yorkshire tea you like/liked has gone out of production, so if you still like it & see any, get it while you can. Stay safe & here's wishing you both much happiness & long lives together.
My bf and I recently came back from Japan and we both fell in love with Takayama, as well. We went to the sake distillery there and participated in the sake tasting. While we were in Japan, we also went to Kyoto. If your looking for a really good plum wine, the local one in Kyoto called Yamazaki is our new favorite. The taste isn't overly sweet, and was served either over a giant ice cube or with soda. We tried to bring some home, but unfortunately we picked up the wrong bottle and got one with a whiskey blend. Still tasted really good, but neither my bf nor myself are able to have whiskey, so I had to give it as a gift to my little brother.
You guys both look so radiant. I have watched you both for years and think you must be good for each other. Will I have a hard time in Hida Furakawa or Takayama with very little Japanese? I am working on it but it is slow going.
Great suggestion on Takayama and Hida-Furukawa - I'm going to Japan next week and realised that with a bit of juggling I can include the area in my itinerary! The Keta Wakamiya shrine being the inspiration for the one in Your Name tipped the balance for me I think 😄
