I’ve reached a point in life, that I think making your own stuff is better, let alone cost effective. I’ve made a few lures and fished the heck out of them, just so I could say, ‘I made it, and it catches fish’. My son got me hooked on swim baits and glide baits. He has spent $250 or more on one bait. Now he’s asking me to make some for him. Thanks for the tutorial, very informative!
Good stuff! I appreciate you watching!
This is not lure making, it is just ART.
I aspire to make some of the best lures anywhere. Thank you for watching!
Very cool connection between the single parts.
Thanks for your support!
Nice looking bait! Video may be long but the content was worth the time to watch.
Thank you, I appreciate your support!
WOW.. definitely one of the nicest lures I've ever seen.. I can only hope to be that good one day.. well done fine sir.
Thank you! If you keep building and trying new things you can't help but get better.

This is great, yet another hobby my wife is not going to be happy I'm picking up. Cheers sir.
Thanks Chris, just tell her you are saving money by making your own fishing lures.
@@zimmtex hmmmmm, that could work lol
Hello:
Nice videos. That gauge is called a Chamfer Gauge. They're used by wood workers for marking 45 degree Chamfers on corners to be planed. Just an FYI.
Dave

Phenomenal! You always do an excellent job with both making the lures and doing the videos!
Great descriptions and you always have great approach for all the steps along the way in the many different parts that go into making a lure!
I really enjoy the way you go about doing everything objectively and figure out what works best for the situation your in. I really relate to it all being that I am the same way, anything I do I want to do it the best way I can figure out how and I am always trying to learn new and better ways while doing everything in the best way I know how.
Thanks again for the time and effort you put into sharing everything you're doing and learning! Greatly appreciated!

Hello from Spain, Europe. Great job. Thanks for sharing and making me enjoy a lot for an hour. Good luck for your next projects!
Thank you for checking it out, I appreciate it!
Love it. Long videos but the people that understand the quality of product that you are making will stick around for all of it! A lot more to learn here than a ‘one day’.
Thanks for your comment and for watching!
Ill spend a hour watching this anyday
What a great craftsmanship!
Thank you very much!
complete techniques and supporting equipment make the lures perfect and beautiful, looks senior, the video tutorial is very good, thank you, greetings from eastern Indonesia, the outermost area of the Indonesian-autralian border
Welcome, glad to gave you here! Thanks for watching.
@@zimmtex thank you again senior
I am amazed at your skill. Super job. For me watching you build the lure is more fascinating than seeing you fish with them.
Thanks Robert, your support means a lot to me!
Interesting way to make the fins for the swimming. I would have never thought about the silicone
Yes, I'm really liking this method and plan on using it again. Thanks for watching!
I have to say something mate. The twisted wires are easier to make if you have a metal skyhook in the drill..Place the two ends of the folded wire in pliers & twist away, saves the ginning around with the bits in the chuck..
That sounds like a great method!
Astonishing!.....what a beautiful build.
Thanks Todd!
I'm not a fish - but this lure is so yummy...
Ha! That's great, thank you! I appreciate your support!
Truly amazing work. I really enjoy watching your videos, from England 👍👌
Thanks, I'm glad to have you here!
Wow, i like your content! Thanks!

With .041 wire a 5/32 drill bit works perfectly and watching your techniques and bait making style is very helpful
Thanks, I appreciate it!
THIS IS EXACTLY WHAT I’VE BEEN WAITING FOR!! Thank you!!!
As white toast
I'm glad you like it!
Beautiful work, man...
Thank you so much!
Very informative video. Your work is beautiful, who cares if it catches fish, it's art.
Thank you, I appreciate it!
Great vid. Tryed my self. Worked great
Thanks, that's great to hear!
Wow very nice lure sir
Thank you, I'm glad you like it!
Your painting skills are outstanding!
Thank you!
All I can say is… wow!
Thank you so much!
i am new to your videos and as a wood worker and fisherman i am VERY impressed. I know this video is two years old but i might suggest two things you may have already added. you can get a glove for your left hand that you can't cut with an exact o knife or carving chisel if you slip. i learned this in Boy Scouts from personal experience...lol, Also on your band saw make a zero-clearance piece that fits around the blade and fits in the holding slot. This will keep pieces from falling in the hole or twisting on you when making the cut. i use these on all types of saws: table, band and scroll saws. you don't need them all of the time but when doing intricate cuts it keeps you finger count around ten... Keep up the good work.
Thank you very much for watching and sharing your wisdom! I have since changed my carving habits, but the band saw suggestion is a new idea for me to explore. I've not been satisfied with my saws performance, but a zero clearance might just solve a lot of my issues. Thank you!
Awesome as always brother
Thanks, I really appreciate your support!
I known this is kind of random but I would love to see a shop tour or maybe you reviewing your old lures or something like that .amazing lure! Hope I can be as good as you one day!
Thanks Kyle, I have several plans for a new shop and would like to include a shop tour before and after. One day it might be cool to look back at old lures and see how far we've come. Thanks!
You are becoming one of my favorite lure making channels. Excellent craftsmanship, attention to details, new innovative ideas on how to solve problems (such as the fins in this video). The Painting vey realistic, at the end you show us a "museum quality" lure. Keep up your good work! Looking forward to see your next video.
Thank you Filepe! I'm glad you're here!
I’ve been watching a lot of these kinds of videos. I’ve gotta say, your finishing process is phenomenal. Great use of color and shading.
Thank you very much, I really appreciate that!
Love how clean your work is!
Thank you, I appreciate it!
Haven't finished watching yet, and couldn't wait to comment. Your skills are beyond that of the average RUclipsr with the exception of only a couple others; but your artistic abilities are tops bar none!!! Great job young man. Oh crap... I would've dawned some scuba gear to retrieve that bad boy ;-)
Thanks! Not the first lure I've lost, and it won't be my last! I appreciate you watching.
Wow that is lovely work bud 👏👍
Thank you, I appreciate it!

Beautiful, precise work. Great job!

It look great definitely will catch some monster fish.
Thanks!
Absolutely beautiful, what an amazing job!! May the fallen lure rest in peace… Until some lucky son of a gun find it!
Thank you, I appreciate it!
Impressive work
Thanks!
I was concerned about the flexible fins allowing the clear coat to crack but you showed that it won't. Awesome video.
You bet, lots of new possibilities with these materials!
I'm always watching it well.
The Korean subscriber is cheering you on you.
You're so cool!

@@daunganjaitamdaunganjaitam2608 And to you, thanks!
@@daunganjaitamdaunganjaitam2608 Great to have you here!
You are stressing me out with that knife...gona get blood all over that pretty lure 😂
Funny story, one weekend I did a ton of carving with no problems. On Monday I cut myself on the edge of a box I was opening. Figures! Thanks for watching!
I think the lipless one need to have more joint movement. Maybe like other lure makers do, sandinf the edge of the V slot on each jointed part. Awsome lure, awsome video!!!
Thanks Marcos! I know what you are talking about; I think I did that on my wooden bass glide bait build. It does give you more movement. Thanks for your support!
First time viewer. I think it’s fair to say I am hooked. Great detail and explanation of process. Look forward to more videos.
Thank you very much! I appreciate your support.
Just discovered your channel and subscribed! This is an excellent tutorial. Thank you for sharing your expertise with the rest of us. 🙂
Awesome, thank you for subscribing!
Nice job bro. Nice job
Thanks!
Amazing detail loved the video great info. Marlin baits beware!!
Thanks!
You do great work
Thanks Pete, I appreciate it!
Class 💥💥💥
Thanks!
I can see a difference on one of your 🐟, the fish that has a bigger gap in the middle cut swims better. I think that was the problem. Beautiful work.
You might be right! These joints are elegant, but I really like the double twist wire joints better. They leave a wider joint and are much easier to install. Thanks!
Great video! You are a God
I like the way you put a material list in the description drop down.
Wow, thanks!
I hope it is useful!
Wooooow! Looks amazing as always
I appreciate it!
New to the channel, just found you. great video, thank you! I understand the time factor but as you said its nice to see your lures catch fish. wish you the best!
Hey James, welcome to the channel! It has been a struggle with timing to fish and work catches into the video. So I've been posting pictures of some of my catches on instagram @zimmtex. Thanks for watching!
You are really good at carving and painting!! Awsome job. Yes for more larger action you can cut larger v in the lurre, but it is cool like that, prety realistic! Too bad you lost it... And yes i woul'd like to see more fishing with your lures, it is nice to see new lakes, landscapes and fishes species depending of the country the angler is from!
Thank you very much for watching, I'm glad you like it!
You are absolutely an awesome guy, dude. Am from Penang, Malaysia. I love so much watching your videos. As a hardcore angler myself, I do have a few artificial lures but never once seen something which look so so real and beautiful. I salute you for that. Hope to own one of your lures in the near future. Keep it up, bro.
Thank you very much for your kind words and support, I really appreciate it!
@@zimmtex You're welcome, bro. Stay safe..
amazing lure
Many thanks!
Very nice, amazing talent!
Can you make a Gulf of Mexico Pinfish??
You mean one of those little bait-stealing rascals? I was fishing around Rockport a while back and I couldn't get away from those things. I will put it on my list; thanks for watching!
Some outstanding craftsmanship to say the very least, plus fitting commentated instructions throughout. What else could we ask for? Can you please help me with my problem? I'm so new to painting lures, I don't have an airbrush so I'm dry rushing the lures or should I say 'i'm trying to' lol. But when I try to paint the foiled lures with a metallic acrylic paint the paint is blobbing up together very much like when paint is applied over waxed paper etc! I've thoroughly cleaned the surface with 99.9% isopropanol alcohol and allowed to dry but still getting it blobbing together. I'm not adding any medium, diluting with water or anything to the paint but can't stop it blobbing up together! Any advice would be gratefully received. The Detail Raw Umber that you use on the head look's great and a Game Changer in my opinion.
Your video is superb and deserves Massive THUMBS UP ALL DAY LONG I always enjoy them thank you👍😷👍🏴
First, thank you for your kind words. I really appreciate your support! Hand painting on foil can be tricky. I'm not positive that it will work, but you might try spray painting a light clearcoat or two over the foil to give your paint something to grip to. Something like Kamar varnish might work. Another option would be to paint the 'broad strokes' like the white bottom and the green top fades with a rattle can so you can detail over that with your brush. Best of luck to you in your lure making adventures!
This is an awesome lure. I'm new to making lures and I view your videos as teaching moments. Thanks for the inspiration.
Thanks Larry! This is one of my favorite lure builds. I'm trying to find time to make some more so I can fish them this winter. Thanks for watching and for your support!
Excellent work on those lures ! Your attention to detail and skills are amazing ! I love watching a true craftsman work. This is my first video of yours to watch and of course I had to subscribe and comment. Thanks for sharing ! ! ! ! ! ! ! ! ! !
Thank you sir! Welcome to the channel.
just wow so good looking your an amazing artist good job man
Thanks, I appreciate your support!
You need a good carving knife. And a strop , you would never use a utility knife again, but your doing a great job great video. I've used both types good carving knife is a blessing. The rotory tool is one of the best i love using them.
I'm always on the lookout for better tools. The rotary tool is great, I really like it! Thanks for watching!
This is my first time watching your videos. Great detail and explanations. My only critical comment is when carving use the right tool as said above and be aware of the direction of cutting towards not just the wood but your own fingers. Might even help to set up a way to hold it with small clamps or something. I was holding my breath the whole time as you cut. I would hate to see such talent do damage to their money makers 😉
Keep up the great content!
Fantastic content
Thanks, I appreciate it!

Wow some day mine will look that good i make my own with good action but its a work in progress.
Thank you, I wish you the best of luck with your lure making. Just keep after it; practice does make perfect!
Love your videos
I have started using a router to do some of the round over work
It allows me to exactly cut a round over and not chip out
I do a number of the same lure at one time quickly
But I am making less detailed lures for Largemouth & Small Mouth Bass and Northern Pike here in NW Ohio
Keep doing the videos as I keep learning
Thanks John, I appreciate your support!
pure class!
...and i feel for your loss. oh the pain! only a lure-smith is able to feel...
Yes, and that's not even close to my record for how quickly I've lost a lure! Thank you for your condolences.
If you got a Silky saw, you don't have to sand your joint. I know it sounds silly, but those cuts turn out smoother than if you sanded them. They're Japanese arborist saws, but aren't really expensive for what they are. If you get one get either fine or medium tooth.
I've heard of those; I'll have to check them out. The right tools do make everything easier. Thanks!
Excelent, congratulations
Many thanks!
That’s freakin gorgeous man
