Always good advice to tell people to always carry water! Another good tip for hot desert days is carry a bandana, keep it wet, and around your neck. Love your videos! Thanks!
A little trick I learned from going to Arizona is to wear a long sleeve white shirt. The long sleeves will protect your arms from the sun and the white color will reflect the light and heat.
Thanks again for sharing your time with us, that was a beautiful hike. Awesome history of the petrified wood. Stay safe and keep up the great advice you pass on for the staying hydrated etc. Fred. 🙏🏻🙏🏻👍🏻👍🏻👏🏻👏🏻✋🏻✋🏻
The pears on the prickly pear cactus made very good jelly. The leaves are also good to eat. The pears and leaves are covered with spines that have small barbs on the very sharp ends which make pulling them out very difficult. A propane torch is good at burning the spines off. Always wear good leather gloves when handling the leaves and pears.
Roy there is a good patch of Prickly pear at the end of my street near the Avon River in Western Australia, I have never tried the fruit but I'm sure that the elderly couple (97 & 95) planted it many years ago and made their fair share of jam from it Tony from Western Australia 🇦🇺
Hi, I'm a long time viewer of Abom 79 and now of this channel too. Abby, I liked your comment about petrified wood combining two of your favorite things, trees and rocks. It reminded me that when we were at Petrified Forest National Park few years ago, we found a large "rock store" near the park, with polished and unpolished petrified wood for sale (legally), including large chunks.
Awesome hike guys, with amazing scenery! This planet has so much to offer to those who can appreciate it. I could say something about fatty foods and being out of shape.... but I am a smoker. I digress 😉.. Love the petrified wood. You could still see the rings in the last one you showed. Incredible!
Petrified trees are created by trees that are submerged in volcanic lakes that keep the wood from decomposing over time the wood is replaced with minerals and turns to stone over time. When the trees become saturated in the alkali lake they submerge with the heavy end down and become submerged in the ash laden silt at the bottom of the lake. Over time the lake can be displaced by ash.
That advice is about as good as saying don't wear safety glasses if you are milling for less than a minute. I know I just suggested beer and pizza at The Outfitters in your last video, but I feel like I influenced you just a bit! :-) And don't forget, stop in at our shop in Cedar City and we will have some liquid nitrogen fun!
I’ve found on RUclips a man who takes these that he buys from from people who have these on their private property and he cuts and polishes them to make tables and such. Look up Russell Zuhl on RUclips and you can see just how beautiful that petrified wood really is!
If you listen to others a lot of it is pure garbage the trick is deciding and still remain a member of polite society. You two play that well. Great scenery hope you both are doing well.
Great adventure A and A. you talked about water have you considered getting a camelback each for your hikes? Well worth it just make sure that you check it fits before you buy! You mentioned that you weren't fit just because you are curvaceous doesn't mean that you aren't fit, you both do a lot of hiking etc, you can't tell me that you aren't fitter than a person with a sedentary job, with a stick figure has the same fitness level, What is a normal body? answer the one that YOU inhabit. Very nice hike and I thanks you's for sharing. Thumbs Up to you both.!

Cool and mysterious process...:-)

Just south of Escalante is quite a few slot canyon hikes that are remedial to extreme, but picturesque at it's best...

I found a website where a person can actually purchase petrified wood. Surprised me.
