    Ang Lee spent 6 years at home as a stay-home dad before Pushing Hands, and he is forever grateful to his wife who supported him all the way. So, if you want to become a filmmaker, please always show gratitudes to the ones around you that support your decision. 👍

    Ang Lee is the greatest director of this century. Why? Many famous directors specialize in specific genres, but Ang Lee directs films with very different stories and styles-he can handle any type of film. Moreover, as an Asian director, he can create English-language films so brilliantly without any sense of barrier, which is something truly extraordinary. The depth of thought reflected in his movies is remarkable. He is my favorite director, without a doubt.

    It seems to me that Ang Lee is someone who genuinely enjoy learning about stories and retelling them.

      Ang Lee is incredibly good at telling stories, or I say, providing all of the little details and character's emotions. It's like, he can make the fantasy comes true. That's why the recipe work really well with Tiger Dragon, Life of Pi, Lust Caution,... The story were extremely well driven on these. On the other side, It does not always work. Like Hulk, that people come expect for an action-packed movie; or Billy Lynn, that the audience expected about an action-realistic war drama, just like American Sniper. Tsui Hark makes a great example for this. The action scenes in his movie are really entertained to me, but like the opposite side of Ang Lee, his movie's characters aren't so special.
      Don't get me wrong, Ang Lee could make great action scenes, for sure. All of the fighting scenes in Tiger Dragon are my all time favorite, and I think they do fit well in a Wuxia 武俠 movie. Western-style action-packed movie? not so much. Wish he can just make another wuxia movie, I like his wuxia-romantic style so much though.

      Say, I prefer Zhang & Lee's movies better for entertaining, but if I'm in the mood, Wong Kar-Wai movies are so damn great. Laugh at me, but my most favorite Chinese's film is A Chinese Odyssey (2 parts -1995), I've re-watched it like 5 times already lol.

    Thanks for such a insightful sharing. "Hulk" together with "Dark Knight" are my favorite superhero movies as they contain the weakness, anguish and misgivings in the development of their characters. Ang once said he was always fascinated with the losing party. Thanks to his sympathy and his courage to depict them, we have a chance to get close to the otherwise unvoiced.

    Which that hulk 2 was released, Ang Lee's take on the hulk is comic accurate along with the origin as well being almost and he had given hulk so much depth in character.

    so really what is the big difference between Ang Lee's HULK and Sam Raimi's Spider-man?? going on what you stated.. "Ang LEe's version was too slow paced. while people expect the majority, pumped up action content., it didn't have an action scene until 40 minutes in. however comparing it to the later reboot in 2008, or the one in Avengers, Ang Lee's HULK shows more character depth as he explores the anguish of having power that he did not seek or desire"

    I don't get why you mention the 18th century novel 'Dream of the Red Chamber" in relation to Ang Lee. Is it about the American opera in 2017? Is Ang Lee working on a film based on the novel?

    • @Courier12
      @Courier12  Год назад

      Hello! I mentioned as a comparison, imagine the level of difficulty there is if a western director is making a movie based on classic Chinese novel. Ang Lee was making movie based on classic English material, he's so amazing.
