I remember Pete giving the recent release from Hawkwind "The Future Never Waits" (2023) a very positive review. I listened to it on RUclips and picked it up and it really is stellar. What's amazing is that original member Dave Brock is 82 years old.

Never owned any Hawkwind before finding SoT and you, Pete, almost four years ago. Have bought a few and acquiring over time. Been waiting on this anniversary and really appreciate your review and discussion regarding comparisons to prior releases. Helps focus on which one might end up in the personal library. Again, this proves why these weekly new product shows are must see viewing.

The full box set has 11 discs. I spent over a week going through it all. I’m big into SF music, Spacey Music, so getting the full thing was a must for me. The experience of listening to all the different versions & concerts day after day was a fantastic experience for me. It got me thinking how around a decade ago, when I listened to my first Hawkwind album I had trouble with the music. It was outside my listening experience. I especially didn’t get the annoying sax playing. I didn’t understand the band, but I knew they are an important SF band. That was enough to keep me exploring their music. Now, listening to 11 discs of Space Ritual, I was fully into it. I get it. Nik Turner’s sax playing makes sense to me. I love it. So hearing his playing better was great. What I got out of the box set, is realizing how much my mind has changed in the past decade. At the same time I listened to the box set, I was checking out this spaced out Jazz guy, Sun-Ra, who pre-dates Hawkwind. During that week plus with Space Ritual, I got 3 of Sonny’s most radical albums. Like Hawkwind a decade ago, my mind can’t really deal with this strange music. It’s too out there for me. It may take a decade, but I can see a time when my mind will adapt and Sun-Ra’s music will seem as natural & understandable as Hawkwind now is to me. Space Rock/ Space Ritual is about changing the mind. I’ve lived that change & I’m still outward bound.

well to be totally honest Dave Brock constantly complained about Turner's sax playing & they sadly ended up having a Gilmour & Waters style huge falling out with each other.

@@JohnSmith-oe4ci yes i know brock liked a moan about turner's sax but i like it , space ritual vol 2 has his sax even louder in the mix which sounds fantastic

I didn't get the remaster, just had the 1992 CD set. The new remix sounds excellent, like a thick curtain has been pulled away. I can hear the instruments distinctly. Didn't need the duplicate concerts though so just bought the 2 CD set. Very happy with it.

Their most enjoyable album for me. I think I will stick with the version I have. So many releases to get something I already own. However, if someone doesn't have it, they should definitely go for it.

Great review of a great band. PS: you always have sucha son that’s why I have to warn you. Please do not ever have Brandon Snyder back on your show. He’s a phony and a fraud who will abuse anyone who respectfully disagrees with him. Even if someone is disrespectful, we’re all old enough to rise above so he doesn’t get a pass for being rude to countless people who don’t think his Hair Metal bands, like Poison, are the greatest song writers. I think it’s important to “live and let live,”! But also not to allow charlatans onto a classy program, such as yours. I always love your Hudson Squares episodes with Chris Alo, Sydney & gang!!

Dave is far too loud and prominent, Lemmy has been mixed down way way way too low, and the cack-handed edit of Lemmy's bass solo in Orgone Accumulator is a joke.
Amateur shouty mess..... The definitive version is the DVD version of the Collector's Edition re-master. If it ain't broke don't fix it. Give me the twangy bass version any day !
