Many Kudos to the unsung hero of this vid,, the Captain of that blue boat who was both aware and polite in stopping his craft and backing out of the way.
RiverRat 2112 Ya it was nice of him, I wish more people could be that nice. I recently lost like a 45+inch Striper off a public landing in Maine when some jerkoff, that saw i was fighting a monster pulled in with his boat and pretty much intentionally ran my line right over just to be a dick... I felt like whipping the guy in the face with my rod lol, I had pretty light gear with 30lb line and was about 20 mins into the fight and had the fish just about worn down and ready to just reel him in ... it sucked.
Once I saw you released that beautiful fish, I hit the subscribe button. As a diver, I love it when people don’t remove this big and beautiful creatures from the wild.
imShootin 2k depending on where he caught it yeah. If that was around Australia it’d be illegal but if that was in the us he’d have to keep or kill it cause it’s an invasive species.
Don Russell well I mean if that was caught in the us he shouldn’t have let Iive because it being an invasive species it’s destroyed Florida’s ecosystem.
13igTyme exactly white dude was a fucking dick I would have called him out on his bullshit if I was there trying to help and he’s talking like that towards me.
lewisc1980 Goliath grouper are not allowed to be kept by Florida Law. Any respectable fisherman typically follows the rules. Many people believe the rules should be changed, although I doubt this guy would break the law.
@@mauibuilt50 they nearly went extinct because spear fishermen thought it was great "sport" to shoot them, haul them back dead to the dock for a few pics, then throw them off the dock.
@@omcbob37 I find this extremely hard to believe. They wouldn't just throw out 400 lbs of meat. I've been an avid spear fisherman for years and I can tell you for a fact they they wouldn't throw them out. Spearing may have played a role in their decline but it wasnt the only reason, and it definitely wasn't because they were thrown away like trash fish.
Neat vid but having fished in that exact spot many times I can tell you that fish was/is basically a pet (or pest at times), I hand fed it a 20 lb cuda one day. I thought about trying to catch it but the local divers and fishermen frowned upon it. At least you didn't leave a hook in her like so many others have. The "You could feed a whole half of haiti with that" makes the vid for me :D
Was a bit disappointed that I didn't get to see the whole thing on a scale to be honest but at the same time glad the fella didn't have to go through that ordeal. Beautiful fish, respect to those who were involved
Those boaters in that blue boat are Absolutely Amazing and very respectful. God bless them. They noticed the Fishermen were hooked on and they backed off and waited patiently.
Kyle Scott Ok Kyylle. I feel what your saying because I noticed it too...but don't disrespect the "G" slim thug...,THAT...,was "YOUNG THUG..." Get it together.
Why talk Shit about a beginner? He obviously asked for this guy's help. When dealing with a giant fish the learning curve is steep. The guy was doing the best he could not knowing Jack Shit. Hopefully he learned a bit and will be better the next time someone asks for his help. If it's such a big deal the fisherman should have had experienced anglers there to help him land the fish AND film instead of asking random people for help.
Granted that's not huge for its so a has and probably more like about 350. They do commonly get 600-700 lbs though. They used to fish for them with win has and steel cable in Ft Pierce at the Jetty where I grew up before they got protected status. Now they are quite prolific. They typically live inshore till about 50 to 100 lbs then start making their way offshore and metamorphosis from male to female. Sometimes they find a honeymoon like this one and just stay.
Baitcaster reels usually sit on top of rod for clockwise recovery. As this one is under the rod while he is clearing in a hurry, winding anti-clockwise is correct. Anyone disagree????????
I am so glad you let it go and didn't listen to that lady who said it could feed half of Haiti. They don't realize you need to let those giants alone so they can continue to breed. Otherwise overfishing will wipe them out.
The black dude reeling the reel upside down was priceless. Then he literally dropped it on its face when you sad just drop it. 😢 I hope its not a Van Staal...
Have you seen DAY OF THE FISH yet? Did you know you can watch it free here? ruclips.net/video/fJbb7cHesB8/видео.html

Exactly if no law the grouper would’ve been serve with steak fries with nice cold beer
Thank you for being a sportsman and releasing that beautiful fish. Great job.
The skipper on that boat was aware & backed up .. what a pro 👍
Very nice for the fishermen on the boat to back up to let him catch the fish and not break his line
