Just did my shocks and struts with this video. Worked well, thank you! Made the mistake of not supporting the rear spring, but luckily it was stopped by the axle and was easy to re seat.
Just bought a 2001 Mustang for my son and the suspension is SHOT!!!!! Gonna have to replace the shock/struts all the way around. You made this look easy. Hopefully I will still feel like that once I dive into this project. Thanks for the video! :-)
+ambrooks5 Some of the bolts can fight you a little but its not a bad install at all. Spray everything with some PB blaster the day before and let it sit to make it easier.
The best tutorial video and also a lot tips. I learned a lot from this tutorial. now im able to repair my own car and also to share my videos with all you.
Put these on today. Its a bit bouncy but I think they need to settle. Im not getting an alignment done as no camber caster adjustments were made. I have a lightly modded 2003 Zinc yellow Mach 1.
i installed these on my 01gt thinking on improving my ride quality but still feel the potholes on the road these are decent but i think i need to get me a better set .
thank you for replying im not sure but i think i got sr lowering springs had em for years i got a new set of bbk rear upper and lower control arms .and for the front end i installed new lower control arms for both sides i also bought a set of new spring insulators . i replaced every bushing on the suspension i could find but i didnt replace the springs cuz they still look in good condition but im not an expert tho . do you think the springs could be the reason i still feel every bump on the road ?
I have an 01 v6 that was my first car. rebuilt it with my dad. it rides like garbage, bumps kill me. would this fix my problem or would I need new springs as well? I have a lot to learn when it comes to suspension. I'm not 100% sure if my car just has bad suspension or if it's just how older cars ride
Idk man I think my Mustang needs new struts because mine handles like a boat and brakes like crap. I plan on doing this and getting tower brace to improve handling.
KYB would be equivalent to stock with a little better performance, the Koni would be a true performance upgrade. If you are on stock springs and sway bars the KYB would be fine, if you are improving the suspension I would recommend Koni.
They supply the hardware for the rear shocks. But if you need strut bushings in the front, you'll have to order them separate. I just did a 94 cobra and the front bushings were still good.
Hi, I changed out my rear shocks last week cause it felt like the rear end was hitting hard and bottoming out, changed them out and I don't know if there is a "break in process" or what but the rear still hits hard, not as hard but feels like it's still bottoming out. Any suggestions?
DMANN1972 Since you are not changing ride height or making any caster/camber adjustments you should not. That said if you had the car aligned with worn out shocks and struts its not a bad idea to get it on a rack and get it checked.
I have a couple questions, I drive a 97, is the installation process the same or are there a few differences between them, second question, I have some after market cc plates, when installing the front ones, it won't mess with the alignments will it? I may just be paranoid but I have had some issues with this in the past, better safe than sorry.
Amazing video! I love my Mustang, I just have no experience whatsoever working on cars. It's something I shoot my self in the foot over, and I wish I could just gather some confidence to get into auto repair and maintenance. What steps do you recommend to get my feet wet and eventually become proficient enough to do expert level type work in the future. PS: Amazing video!
MatafiedGaming learning how to change your own oil is usually the first thing to do, then spark plugs, then stuff like alternator changes, cleaning of intake parts, then brakes. nowadays you can find everything online so whenever you are unsure of something, look it up days before in writing and video if possible and you'll be fine.
I have an 03. Installed these with ford racing lowering springs. The car is so stiff and bouncy also. I have to have 50lb sand bags on the rear shock towers to keep it down from bouncing
Always best to torque to spec, so find a shop manual. Also, most suspension bolts are usually one-and-done, meaning the engineers spec use of new hardware (for safety reasons) when changing out parts; a good manual will advise you of such.
Never use a torque wrench to loosen bolts. It strains the gears inside and throws off the calibration. Use a breaker bar(aka cheater bar), a 1/2" long handle ratchet or a hollow long pipe for leverage on the ratchet. Use PB blast or wd40 to loosen the bolts. Wait 10 min or an entire day before u do this amd itll be super easy. I havent done it to my car yet but i lowered my car and my stock shocks and struts just feel terrible.
i just replace my shocks and struts thanks to this video but i have a question on one of my strut is higher on one side ? and now when i took it out to drive, and hit a pump i hear a loud hit like if its loose.
+Bill Tumas i did and i found out im missing a spacer on one side :( so the hight of the sturts, one higher then the other one but would it make a difference? like can i still use my car like that or is it bad ? also the hight difference is off jusat by a little bit not to much
Bill Tumas. hey bill nice video one question for you? Any special wrench or sockets to loose the front engine bay bolts? Im doing it by hands Not with an impact tool? Thanks hope u can answer me
You have to hold the shock some way while tightening the nut..Use a vise grip or use (I think 9mm) to hold the shock while you tighten the nut. Sounds a little confusing
Just did my shocks and struts with this video. Worked well, thank you! Made the mistake of not supporting the rear spring, but luckily it was stopped by the axle and was easy to re seat.
Yea I was shocked it was this simple
You have to support rear leaf spring?

Great advice. I will definitely do that. Thanks!
How long does it take to change front struts?
Old video but help me alot just changed struts and shocks on my 2000 mustang gt,God bless.
john sosa is it difficult?
The best tutorial video and also a lot tips. I learned a lot from this tutorial. now im able to repair my own car and also to share my videos with all you.
I installed these exact same shocks & struts
Made my car super bouncy
BreadMan _96 did you tighten the parts all the way down?
No bounce here.. 94 SVT cobra..
simple enough...thanks for posting!
Put these on today. Its a bit bouncy but I think they need to settle. Im not getting an alignment done as no camber caster adjustments were made. I have a lightly modded 2003 Zinc yellow Mach 1.
I just put these on a 94 SVT with 188,000 miles. No problems here.
I noticed on the rear shocks when installed you didn't use the bump stops do we not need them with these shocks? Those are kinda important 🤔
Awesome sauce !
i installed these on my 01gt thinking on improving my ride quality but still feel the potholes on the road these are decent but i think i need to get me a better set .
What springs are you running? control arms?
thank you for replying im not sure but i think i got sr lowering springs had em for years i got a new set of bbk rear upper and lower control arms .and for the front end i installed new lower control arms for both sides i also bought a set of new spring insulators . i replaced every bushing on the suspension i could find but i didnt replace the springs cuz they still look in good condition but im not an expert tho . do you think the springs could be the reason i still feel every bump on the road ?
You will feel the potholes no matter what. is just the nature of a live rear axle!

@@cjponyparts koni shocks and structs are sold out. Is KYB GR-2/Excel-G is ok for my 97 Mustang GT?
can i install both rear shocks at the same time? Or do I have to install one side and than the other like you did in this video ?
Idk
When installing these shocks and struts what are all the rubber pieces that could possibly need to be replaced? Do you guys have a kit with all parts?
They supply the hardware for the rear shocks. But if you need strut bushings in the front, you'll have to order them separate. I just did a 94 cobra and the front bushings were still good.

@TheNitroPyscho Do you have lowering springs on your car? You may be hitting the differential snubber. That would cause the bottoming out in the rear.
Can I use an impact drill or does it have to be an air gun?
Either should work fine.
CJ Pony Parts Awesome! Thank you for the response.
Will this fit a 2004 mustang v6 40th anniversary?
Do you need an alignment after doing this?
DMANN1972 Since you are not changing ride height or making any caster/camber adjustments you should not. That said if you had the car aligned with worn out shocks and struts its not a bad idea to get it on a rack and get it checked.
What about the quad shocks, should they be replaced or do they not go bad?
Yes replace them they are junk from ford
there is a squeaky sound in the back how can i fix it ? it happened after i installed the koni struts
Check and recheck everything you did. You probably forgot a bushing or something....
I have a couple questions, I drive a 97, is the installation process the same or are there a few differences between them, second question, I have some after market cc plates, when installing the front ones, it won't mess with the alignments will it? The installation process is the same, you will need an alignment when installing CC plates.

Now this looks like something I can do.
Hey man let me know how it goes. My 2003 GT needs new struts
Angel Gutierrez will do
Maximum Carnage update yet?
Angel Gutierrez not sir. Probably a few months before I can buy the parts.
Which is best kit for springs and struts/shocks?
Eibach and bilstein or koni yellow
How important is it to torque the bolts down to manufacturers specs?
Very important lol. When i work on my 'stang i always torque everything to manufacturer specs then i double check again to make sure i hit it.
I did not see the gentleman in the video using a torque wrench on any of these bolts. As long as there tight your good..
Will my stock springs fit on the koni str.t? For a 04 mustang gt
yes these work for both
I have just installed this exact set, my car is super bouncy now. Worse than the factory shocks and struts.
+Josh Uraz did you take them off or keep it?
What year car do you have. I am having no problems with them at all. 94 SVT...
I have an 03. Installed these with ford racing lowering springs. The car is so stiff and bouncy also. I have to have 50lb sand bags on the rear shock towers to keep it down from bouncing
Do i need to find torque specs for anything or is it just as tight as i can get it
Chef Boyardee Idk man did you figure it out?
Always best to torque to spec, so find a shop manual. Also, most suspension bolts are usually one-and-done, meaning the engineers spec use of new hardware (for safety reasons) when changing out parts; a good manual will advise you of such.
I want to go up.

+Bill Tumas i did and i found out im missing a spacer on one side :( so the hight of the sturts, one higher then the other one but would it make a difference? like can i still use my car like that or is it bad ? also the hight difference is off jusat by a little bit not to much
+xxAirHeaDxx210 I would make sure you have the same height spacer on both sides.
+Bill Tumas okay thanks for reply i really appreciate it and ill will be getting some new spacers soon.
Bill Tumas. hey bill nice video one question for you? Any special wrench or sockets to loose the front engine bay bolts? Im doing it by hands Not with an impact tool? Thanks hope u can answer me
I did this but every time I hit a bump I hear like a tapping sound like something hitting, any ideas what it could be?
Check your coil spring bushings!
That SN95 has seen better days.
I drive the wheels off that thing.
triton302 How do you know? You didn't even hear it run.
Sue K Your comment makes no sense. Who cares if it runs well, I hope it does. Cosmetically the car needs some TLC.
Its a new edge man
This is bull man everytime I try an loosen my rear nut inside the trunk it wants to spin the entire thing and not come off...
You have to hold the shock some way while tightening the nut..Use a vise grip or use (I think 9mm) to hold the shock while you tighten the nut. Sounds a little confusing
You have to use impact gun's. If your using hand tool's your never gonna get it off.
loosen that nut before taking the the bottom apart. That way it stays in one spot.
Some folks probably should not use tools.
Thats a hell of a leaky air hose
