An R32 Time Attack Car, But With Some US Style

- We hear about GT-R race cars but it's rare that we ever hear or even see them on American soil. Shawn Bassett and his shop, Attacking the Clock Racing, know a few things about building time attack cars. When Shawn and team showed up at Super Lap Battle earlier this year with a fresh GT-R build, I was eager to take a look.

Hey Larry, sorry to hear you got your equipment stolen at gridlife man. I hope you get everything back !!
Come on man really?! , 🖕whoever did that!
LOL larry filming his story and people just passing by without a care, even jumped in to interview him :))
"Hey Larry, you are live right now!"
Pffffffhahahaha, interviewception right there!😂😁😇
He's still got the RB in it so it ain't ruined
Absolutely amazing to be sponsored by Grand Turismo great job hard work paying off 👍
Larry you're the g.o.a.t. man! That's why they interrupted you're interview to put you on the Jumbo Tron! Great interview. I loved every aspect of this beautiful race car! It will be rad once they get around to version 2.0 when they engineer a new carbon dash, cage, and doors. Looking forward to seeing this one in the future! 🍷🍷
Gran* Turismo
I love when he popped the bonnet, everyone was like 👀
Mr. Pink pants couldn't resist interrupting for a look..
Sick car!!! Larry you are an amazing influence on car culture everyone wants your unbiased opinion and the way you bring out the story of each car is important to you and there for to all of us
Best gtr build so far that I seen on RUclips love the content
Awesome build 🙌
I pray you get your equipment back Larry 🙏
Rocket 🚀!!!!!!! Amazing project
Always a good day with a Larry Chen video
13:50 - cool, yeah just pull the dash out and create a replica (cut on that all day) then preserve the original in a bag on a shelf. 👏
I see alot of Aussie made parts 👌 🇦🇺🇦🇺🇦🇺
ngl it makes me smile when people get butt hurt over someone modding the fuuuhh out of a GTR.
The car is owned by an individual, let them do what THEY want to it, we HAVE museums for preservation cars.
Built it, drive it, love it.
12:28 - "make some supports inside trunk" REF: Mercedes AMG Black Series.
Thanks for making this content. Can’t get enough of these track builds.
Larry if you ever head to Australia you should shoot the 4g63 swapped R32 time attack car. The cars absolutely mad
That's beautiful and that interior, Wow! Bro you know they just wanted to meet you Larry😉
So I own a 32 GTST and I’m in a skyline owners group based in Jacksonville, FL and Chris is in our group! super cool to see him on your channel Larry.?y’all should check out top gears vid on this car too
love the car/build/owner. Nothing better than somone that KNOWS what they ultimately want and are willing to invest the time and effort into dialing down their exact performance figures. RWD came as no surprise im really interested in the SINGLE turbo setup and the future potential of this r32. They really are too FRONT heavy and lack ideal front end steering/breaking control for GO FAST application.....pure speed builds. Where breaking needs to be minimal/ideal when accessed. It TAKES a lot to make them "COMPETITIVE" with whats out there. What i mean by A lot....is like slim stock parts utilized...its no different than modifying any "OLDER" car/platform to REALLY compete. I got nothing but respect for the drivers/owners that devote the legitimate time it takes to get cars/builds like this REALLY off the ground and COMPETING. Not just with other cars but with their own GOALS/HOPES of what these builds can achieve. Im equally amazed to see how Grand turismo ties in to the developmental/sponsorship process with these Enthusiasts. I never imagined how far that game would come playing gt2 on ps1 sliding off track in the wrong gear as a youngin growing up...its really a breath of fresh air to see how far things have come 12:12 seeing "Criteria" like this as a work around is so refreshing..... To see these "BUILDS" as the years pass as better turbos get applied and more modern engine management systems get implemented as builders feel more VIABILITY edge towards their "Dimension" of enthusiast builds or car specific builds with ULTIMATELY track time/sectional time improvement is the bottom line. As far as the owners concern this thing is a "PRO STREET" build and i love it as Shawn tries to convince him "its a race car now" and just that aspect alone I LOVE IT so funny/awsome.
Shawn basset long time no see
More please Larry!!!
Thank god this is a real time attack car. Though it was going to be dustin williams skyline he think is an attack gtr
Loved seeing it at Tuner Evo Orlando, hopefully you guys like the shots I got of it!
This guy is such a good builder his 240Z truly blew my mind when he built that machine.
got to see his #269 240 up close back at SEMA 2019, believe I still have the pics on my phone. it was full bare carbon then (with some graphics) but it did have the orange "anodize" rims.
@@phillyphil1513 it's pretty cool how he did all that carbon himself
@@iamseamen1 ikr...? i hadn't even learned that info while at the show. ironically i didn't discover this till a few months later when I found that Hoonigan/Build Biology interview on him and the car (which i then realized was filmed like 6 months before Vegas that year,😀). better late than never i guess.
11:17 you can see Gabe Shadid’s BMW M3 in the back round
Nissan developed the ATESSA awd system which was so good the car got the name Godzilla...
Attack the clock was like "nahh let's make it rwd"..
So sick 🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥
Damn, would have loved to see it ripping around some lap times. Great coverage otherwise Larry!
I’d argue the street bandito 240 car is up there
Cardboard Aided Technology 😂
14:28 pretty much sums up the car
Interesting...
#skyliner32gang 💪🏽😤
luar biasa!
Also can we talk about the gt3 in the background
Caaabbaan fibaaah
Я люблю немецкий автопром, но понимаю, что безумно люблю r32!!!!
What is " US style" it's a skyline with some metal to hold it down so it can get that grip buddy. Last time I checked the entire world does that🤷♂️ love ya lary
Might be the fact it has aircon and a fairly complete interior
because racecar
Come to Australia where you can see real GTR’s
💥🔥💥🔥🔥🏁♥️🏁♥️🏁♥️🏁♥️🏁♥️🏁💯💯💯
I wouldn’t say RWD is ruining it, doesn’t it come with that capability OEM?
No it doesn't, removing front drive shaft is what makes it rear wheel drive
even the calsonic r32 was majority driven by RWD. With occasional front assist in corners or breaking sections. The most of the time it was accelerating or high acceleration was RWD. Even into the future as they developed better differentials came weight/balancing issues. As someone that had family that worked for calsonic in the states...and had high esteem for that specific racecar myself. PPL often forget if a "BUILD" even has OE "systems" intact or equitable suspension setups for "SAID" AWD "performance" on Track...vs an aftermarket setup as it is...and a completely different power/fuel etc tune. PPL would rather talk "PURIST" Bs as if they own a GTR etc...vs just respect a "GUY" willing to build/own cars to have a team attack pikes peak or etc...they cant even respect that bc they think their litmus test bs mentality is "MORE PURE" To the "SPORT" as if they do real SANCTIONED runs or have a "TEAM" of their own etc.....like c'mon we know were in the YT threads....were all commenters lets try to be a little "REAL" for once instead of this "if i had a GTR i would" nonsense. Youre totally right RWD isnt ruining it at all. As long as its DRIVEN.....considering the BUILD/INTENT of this car....the only way youre doing it "WRONG" is if its out of tune/alignment etc....and crashes. In my eyes.
Yes it does but it wasn’t meant to.That was only if you pulled a certain fuse, because it disabled the magnet mechanism inside the differential.
Man, people are rude
This guy builds amazing cars his Datsun is disgusting
i mean its basic car 101 man....they didnt build that Z for looks....its not like they came out of the factory to PROVIDE grip for higher power builds. You have to go "out of bounds" to equate efficacy to grip/downforce. The geometry of the car was never DESIGNED for high power or a multi link suspension or a front suspension link/assembly as it is. LOOKS is like a LAST priority for a build like that. Gotta have a lil SENSIBILITY when judging a car and be able to take a step back...and have respect for the build. Its like comparing a wangan runner or midnight club build....to a shakotan. They arent comparable
I was just saying the Datsun is sick the fact that Ryan lays his own carbon is awesome as well he's super meticulous and it shows
@@josl1720 my bad i thought u meant literally, you mean like Echelon tier disgusting. Like "touched on" nasty.
Only US style is probably the driver
Serious question.
Why would you buy Skyline GT-R, if you want a... RWD and a Single Turbo Skyline... That doesn't make sense.
Just buy a GTS-T then, instead of un-GTR-ing a GTR.
(And "nearly all R32 GTR racecars were RWD" is absolute horseshit)
Agreed. Inline 6 matches best with twins.
That’s not bs, he just means a lot of the racing GTR’s after the R32 were RWD like some R33’s and R34’s.
Because they banned AWD at the top levels of wheel to wheel racing but people & companies alike still wanted to race the car so they converted them to RWD.
And although high level GTR’s were twin turbocharged at the time, that was in the 90’s when turbo technology wasn’t that good.
Turbo technology now is better then back then , companies do more research & development for single turbo applications because they use them more in everyday vehicles like sedans/crossovers. Also they just are easier to work on and maintain, idk if you ever worked on a twin setup on any car whether inline or V configuration but they are a B****.
