  • This is an unpublished George M. Cohan song, written for his final show, THE MUSICAL COMEDY MAN (1940). Though he completed the entire script and score for the project, he died in 1942 before it could be produced. It is a sister to his earlier 1904 hit, "Life's a Very Funny Proposition After All." Interestingly, whereas that song -- written when he was a young man of 26 -- is wry and sobering, this one -- written at the age of 62 -- is more generous and optimistic. You'd think it would be the opposite -- but apparently, Cohan seems to have mellowed with age.
This delightful performance is from the hugely successful, sold-out "Cohan Celebration" presented by La Mirada Theatre in L.A. on June 30th, 2019. Randy Rogel sings to an arrangement by Keith Harrison (at the piano, supported by Rhea Fowler on violin).
Here is a brief but lovely news story on the song's world premiere:
    spectrumnews1....
I think you'll find that -- even at the end of his long and storied career -- Cohan still had the ability to pen a tune that had "the listen."
    Enjoy!
