Barbs: "When Koreans find something they like, they get obsessed with it" Barbs: (loves geography so much he''s been making videos about it for years) Me: Seems about all right
7:34 Actually, king sejong was a very smart person(he memorized an entire book able to say what page a random sentence is in) so he himself didn't have problem using chinese characters. Instead, he worried that most ordinary people were illiterate, so he invented hangul with the most outstanding scholars at that time.
@@starroving6464 Maybe that specific story can be exaggerateed but there is no doubt King Sejong had no problem with Chinses characters. Apparently, not only kings but also all nobles in the royal court should have known how to read and write those characters since every document in the royal court was in Chinese. Even the most stupid king was able to read and write them.
@@starroving6464 Actually, that's probably not exaggerated at all. King Sejong is known as the most scholastic AND dilligent Korean head of state in the history of the Peninnsula, and in fact it's a famous myth that he even had to cooperate with other scholars to complete Hangeul - it's almost completely Sejeong's solo work. And considering the methods of studying back then were drilling the Confucian text over and over until you can recite it half-asleep, completely able to elaborate the thoughts behind it and be able to add a footnote to it... The story's more likely than you think.
And there's another myth going on. When the King Sejong started on the project of Hunminjeonum (in modern days, we call Hangul), most scholars were con, since it can be the sign of being idependent of China. So, Hangul was actually created almost by him alone, based on the shape of tongues and Confucian style interpretaion of language. You cannot imagine how clever he was. After he finished creating Hangul, many scholars working in Jiphyunjeon had no alternative but to accept it. The King Sejong forced them to make some literature with Hangul and distribute it to his people. There are many dualities in history we are missing due to some stupid nationalism. The facts are that the King Sejong was such an intelligent guy and, simultaneously, he did not care his people so much as we are told to believe.

Korean and Turkish people have a common ancestry in the same nomadic tribe. But then I am talking about almost 2000 if not more back. So most likely the brotherhood mostly relates to the Turkish aid in the Korean War.
Actually there is a turkish korean movie named "Ayla" in the cinemas right now. Its a real story about a turkish soldier in the jorean war who adopted a korean girl in the middle of the war. Really great movie with a oscar nomination.

South Korea is so technologically advanced. I didn’t need to get a cell phone in Seoul, just used open Wi-Fi wherever I was even in the streets. DMZ tour was pretty sad, especially the train station saying it went to Pyongyang.
DMZ tour was sad? My DMZ tour from the north side of the border was pretty chill, we got to take pics with the NK soldiers and walk around and take pictures of both the NK side and the other side. From what I've heard the South Koreans are more strict with tourists on their part of the DMZ to avoid "provoking the North Koreans", yet the North Koreans were ironically pretty lenient on my tour group.
Chief Rafi's ,you say that as if its such a good thing.South Koreans are addiitively into tech i've seen them struggle to detox and in Japan they keep robots as companions coz they become dehumanized by tech and career as priorities.Even in USA people are losing the human touch to screen addicition.

@SoundsLike Turkish --- Teşekkürler, teşekkür ederim, sağol^^ Many thanks for grateful message^^ Some people said that Turkish grammar is similar to corean one. Was hoping that would be mentioned in this episode.
Ssgt Griggs Tho not mentioned in this video we koreans deeply thankful for their service. 'Bro nation' Turkey. You guys will receive more honor if you stop playing with my icecream
Korean and Turkish people have a common ancestry in the same nomadic tribe. But then I am talking about almost 2000 if not more back. So most likely the brotherhood mostly relates to the Turkish aid in the Korean War.
Yup, in the Korean War when the Chinese attacked, instead of retreating, the Turkish held their ground and fought until the end.
Ssgt Griggs ooooh so thats why there is so much korean tourist in turkey ?
Actually there is a turkish korean movie named "Ayla" in the cinemas right now. Its a real story about a turkish soldier in the jorean war who adopted a korean girl in the middle of the war. Really great movie with a oscar nomination.

"Clearly it was coal mines because it wasn't here"
Smooth response north...

Andrew Priester Hey, I believe it. An underground attack would be stupid; one good bomb placement and the tunnel's gone.
lutin grognon that show north determination, although already dug 4 tunnels (or probably more than 20), they still want to find the coal
(Probably need a better method though, or by twist coincidence, maybe the dmz area really hold a large supply of hidden coal)

South Korea is so technologically advanced. I didn’t need to get a cell phone in Seoul, just used open Wi-Fi wherever I was even in the streets. DMZ tour was pretty sad, especially the train station saying it went to Pyongyang.
Lip Fairilu Clearly you’ve never been to Detroit.
I'd rather live in Pyongyang than in Detroit
Cleveland may be bad, but it least they're not Detroit.

Merhaba~ Is Turkish language similar to corean language? Do Khan say like this, "i you love"? How do Turkish people say when giving thanks in Turkish? Huge thanks. Buona giornata^^;
@Devlet-i Aliyye-i Osmâniyye Teşekkürler, teşekkür ederim, sağol^^; Turkish language seem to be an Ural-Altaic language. If so, i think that Turkish is similar to Mongolic, Japanese, corean e.t.c. 'Ben' is 'I' and 'seni' is 'you' and 'seviyorum' is 'to love'. It is very interesting. Grazie mille, Buona giornata~
@SoundsLike Turkish --- Teşekkürler, teşekkür ederim, sağol^^ Many thanks for grateful message^^ Some people said that Turkish grammar is similar to corean one. Both is different, of course. i think that Mongolian grammar is most similar to Turkey one. In corea, there are not many books about Turkey grammar or conversation. Enter TheWu Apparently Turks used to live in the Plains of Mongolia and Northern China and they were close friends with Koreans back then so they still call Koreans 'Brothers' although 90% of us don't understand why.
Victor Lee it’s more to do with the fact our grandparents fought in the Korean War and would come back with stories about how amazing Korea and Korean people are, my grandad still says to this day that he would go and fight for Korea again if they needed it
Enter TheWu hmmm,Im very interested to hear these stories you speak of if I could cuz my perception on pre wartime and korean war era Korea isn't incredibly high as they didn't have the chance to prosper and fully develop as they have now.
