7:34 Actually, king sejong was a very smart person(he memorized an entire book able to say what page a random sentence is in) so he himself didn't have problem using chinese characters. Instead, he worried that most ordinary people were illiterate, so he invented hangul with the most outstanding scholars at that time.
@@starroving6464 Maybe that specific story can be exaggerateed but there is no doubt King Sejong had no problem with Chinses characters. Apparently, not only kings but also all nobles in the royal court should have known how to read and write those characters since every document in the royal court was in Chinese. Even the most stupid king was able to read and write them.
@@starroving6464 Actually, that's probably not exaggerated at all. King Sejong is known as the most scholastic AND dilligent Korean head of state in the history of the Peninnsula, and in fact it's a famous myth that he even had to cooperate with other scholars to complete Hangeul - it's almost completely Sejeong's solo work. And considering the methods of studying back then were drilling the Confucian text over and over until you can recite it half-asleep, completely able to elaborate the thoughts behind it and be able to add a footnote to it... The story's more likely than you think.
And there's another myth going on. When the King Sejong started on the project of Hunminjeonum (in modern days, we call Hangul), most scholars were con, since it can be the sign of being idependent of China. So, Hangul was actually created almost by him alone, based on the shape of tongues and Confucian style interpretaion of language. You cannot imagine how clever he was. After he finished creating Hangul, many scholars working in Jiphyunjeon had no alternative but to accept it. The King Sejong forced them to make some literature with Hangul and distribute it to his people. There are many dualities in history we are missing due to some stupid nationalism. The facts are that the King Sejong was such an intelligent guy and, simultaneously, he did not care his people so much as we are told to believe.

@Devlet-i Aliyye-i Osmâniyye Teşekkürler, teşekkür ederim, sağol^^; Turkish language seem to be an Ural-Altaic language. If so, i think that Turkish is similar to Mongolic, Japanese, corean e.t.c. @SoundsLike Turkish --- Teşekkürler, teşekkür ederim, sağol^^ Many thanks for grateful message^^ Some people said that Turkish grammar is similar to corean one. Enter TheWu Apparently Turks used to live in the Plains of Mongolia and Northern China and they were close friends with Koreans back then so they still call Koreans 'Brothers' although 90% of us don't understand why.
Victor Lee it’s more to do with the fact our grandparents fought in the Korean War and would come back with stories about how amazing Korea and Korean people are, my grandad still says to this day that he would go and fight for Korea again if they needed it
Enter TheWu hmmm,Im very interested to hear these stories you speak of if I could cuz my perception on pre wartime and korean war era Korea isn't incredibly high as they didn't have the chance to prosper and fully develop as they have now.

Hangul is a beauty. Its very straight forward. Common sense alone can perceive what a character is once you learn the principle. I'm sure if you teach a toddler Hangul and the English Alphabet at the same time, they will grasp Hangul faster.
Hangul is a very young alphabet though (15th century), made to be practical (=designed by one person, not by history). While the English writting system is one of the worst examples in using the latin Alphabet (Italian is far easier/logical for example). English inconsistent phonetics was made by history, not really designed by one man like Hangul.
It even includes a prounciation guide by using similar symbols for similar sounds, super logical! If it wasn't for the weird box writing, I would advocate that we all throw the latin letters in the trash can right now
I’m Japanese and leaning linguistic. Hangeul is more useful system then Kana in Japan. Because Hangeul can express more and more sounds. We have about only 50 sounds using Kana. It is why Korean people can easily pronounce other country’s languages and Japanese are poor to do
Yeah Isn't that why they won't get rid of Kanji? Because they need it. Too many homophones in Japanese. There are a lot in Korean but You can make more sounds and words with Hangul. I wish Japanese was only Hiragana. Then I would probably learn it. I am interested in Japanese, but with Kanji and the three scripts and all of that I will just stick to Korean for now.
kana is very easy word to learn, but very hard to make various sound... also i dont know why japanese use 3 type of letter, hiragana, katakana, and chinse letter.
I like Korean. You use a basic Alphabet, but also can use Hanja (Chinese) if you want. Most people don't even care for Hanja but it is still part of Korean in a way. Hangul is really great. Probably the best writing system in the world. I think Japan needs to change their way. It is almost impossible for a foreigner to learn all the Kanji lol.
Alex Friedman I’m Japanese, and of course, even Japanese people don’t know all the Kanji. Kanji has a little bit important role. For Japanese people, it is easy to understand from kanji than any other shape. It is like people understand easily by shape. And also part of the Kanji has a meaning. E.G) 氵-> related to water ,月 ->related to body.
And also Sweden, Hungary and Great Britain (they will leave in 2 years). I would really like to know what that map should represent. It is not pre-2004 EU, it is not "Euro-countries" map...

To conclude: your mother roasted you two times. First your language, than the fact that she has the black belt and could literally kill your whole crew. Nice. Very good episode.
I don’t think the second one was a roast.

It's so great to introduce Republic of Korea.
English inconsistent phonetics was made by history, not really designed by one man like Hangul.
xenotypos y’all love to dog english with childish excuses even though y’all still use the language....
to me russian alphabet was the easiest foreign alphabet i learnt.

It is why Korean people can easily pronounce other country’s languages and Japanese are poor to do
y kmi 多分linguisticsだと思います。linguisticだと形容詞だと思います。 あとthenじゃなくてthan
言語学学んでるんですね 韓国語 英語 以外何やってるんですか?
