Good info. These are the two i was comparing last night. I went with the keen targhee 3s. I dropped $60.00 on them which was less than the nortiv8 boots i was looking for in store but had no luck. Thanks for the intell.

I ordered both, but had to return the Merrell Moab 3's. The arch on the Merrell is too high for my foot. If you have very high arches, then you might like the Moab 3's. I really like my Keen Targhee 3's! I also tried the European version of the Moab called the Adventure mid. It was a horribly uncomfortable boot. The Columbia Newton Ridge is okay, but not near as comfortable as the Targhee 3. One thing that makes a huge difference is good socks. Get yourself a good pair of Darn Tough lightweight cushioned hiking socks.

i agree toe box is wider on keens, but they are short in size, Merrell is true to size imo

Merrell boots are utter garbage. I got a pair they replaced UNDER WARRANTY because the first pair had broken off half the lugs on the sole. THe replacement boots fell apart about two months after I placed them in service. I walk on GRASS. GRASS. County gravel roads. Once or twice a day. And they already fell apart. I contacted Merrell again and they refused to do anything about it.
They were Moab's. They were $130.00 for the pair. That's $130.00 down the TOILET.
I've been wearing them with the sole half fallen off cause they're useable during DRY, NON-DEWY, weather. But they have also developed a CHUNK on the outside of the inner sole, on the opposite side of my foot from the inner arch, that makes my outer foot ride up, and it really hurts.
THey are JUNK. DO NOT BUY MERRELL BOOTS. \\
A $5 pair of Columbias I got at the thrift store lasted FIVE YEARS until I literally wore everything off the bottom sole. THey're still solid boots, and I use em for wading while trout fishing.

I gave the keens a test the other day. I was climbing and hanging off the backside of a house that's built hanging over the cliff. A week before Christmas I fell 20' face down which started a landslide causing me to tumble once then face down again hands beside my body at about a 70degree downward slope snapping off small trees over rocks mud limbs and building materials until I stopped using the side of my head neck and shoulder against a bigger tree. The climb back to the top was tough due to my Filas getting no traction what so ever mixed with my legs not working well. My left wrist being broken and hand inop. Then the right shoulder being out of socket and my arm wouldn't work. Collar bone was an inch higher than it was supposed to be. Couldn't see well with my right eye being swollen near shut and all if the blood in my eyes. But 3:46 mins later I got to the top. I used my chin and left hand to crawl and climb up. That's what prompted the new boots. I was soaked the other day. Had my camos on with the ankles tied. And a hoodie. The water ran all over me but my feet were dry. The rubber boot inside these keen did what it was supposed to do. I spent a day crawling along the deck that is soaked with rain mixed with algae and slime and the boots never slipped. I've got to remove a huge deck that over hangs or did. It's collapsing. And I have to install ground screws with 35' supports to the house above and dig to pour concrete to anchor more poles on for support. It's about 3/4 spelunking and the other is hanging and climbing. I may die doing it but my feet should be in good shape thanks to these targhee 3s

Hmmmm that's crazy. My Moab 2's have been holding up just fine for a couple of years of tough use. I wear them during warmer weather because they vent really well. Have had no issues.
