I use HLG for sunsets and night flights, you can bring those shadows up so much you almost can’t believe that the info is there to bring it up, sunsets and mountain ranges being able to see the trees that are in shadows are amazing. Anyway, the golden hour is where the HLG shines, otherwise if it’s midday just use normal colour profile I guess, but I just tent to leave it alone in one setting and colour grade everything.
Going to try this tomorrow, thx. Do you meter for the sun as muck as possible when recording? When I do still photography I meter for the brightest thing, then bring-up shadows. Wondering if the same concept works.
@@evenflow509 you can always bring up an under exposed image but you can’t bring down an over exposed image so yes expose more so for the sun than the dark areas is generally what I do, but I try to make the subject of interest without the sun in the background, however sunsets etc you want that look so I underexpose the rest and use the zebras to ensure I have gone to the max I can adjust without any clouds or skies blowing out.

Hey I live there, you are completely breaking the law flying over moving cars like that. FAA - "No flights over moving vehicles". Imagine is something went wrong like one of your MANY other drone accidents and few into oncoming traffic. And it's restricted airspace, you are flying over 100 feet. The legal limit there. You give drone pilots a bad name😒

HLG is for bright sun, where there is more dynamic range needed, not for normal brightness, left a like

The normal color profile has honestly better dynamic range. Hlg is blowing out highlights. Just look at the building and clouds for example 1:13
IMHO the normal profile is my preferred mode because it requires less or no grading compared to the HLG just to get the same look.
Nice simple comparison. Normal has more punch. Better colors. You may be right about golden hour where range is more important.
