Great video! I started my own business (landscaping) about two years ago with my then 16 year old son. First had a push mower a hand held leave blower and a edger that my dad gave me. Now I have a truck a trailer a zero turn riding mower, all commercial. Been using a 22” mower that one of my clients gave me when he moved. I am now well known around my neighborhood since I only do landscaping part time and within 5 miles radius from my home. Nextdoor app is a great way to start up a business to. B4 I forgot, God is great.

I'm 23 years old. I started last year. Bought a truck, self propelled mower, weed eater, blower, hand tools and wheelbarrows, other little things, all for under $6000. I made it back within my 1st two months while working less than 40 hours a week. I was able to land some good mulch and sod jobs pretty much right off the bat. A sales background helps ;) lol. Thank you Keith! You're like my online mentor without even knowing it. Learned so much from your videos

I absolutely loved this. I have dreamed for years of becoming a business owner and I worked 48-60 hours a week from 18-23 at a fabric plant where i was treated as less than a robot. I woke up for years knowing i was on the wrong path, I've prayed, cried, sweated and bled for the life I am about to have. Failure has never been an option for me, I stopped the abuse and left my job, broke off a 3 year toxic engagement, took a 2 month vacation to several places, and began watching people like this who have done what i want to do. You do not have a choice but to succeed when you are truly driven and passionate about success. I reached that moment you talked of and i snapped and i have never felt more alive because like you said when you have no other option you have to succeed. This video not only gave me information i needed but also inspired me and drove me harder. Thank you Keith, i will become successful, you advice and wisdom will not be wasted by me.

I just started this year, and using this time while I am still at my day job to NOT rely on the income from my lawn maintenance business, but to use it to grow the heck out of it, and its worked pretty well. I've been able to, little by little, buy everything with cash and its been nice to know when I launch full time, I won't have all that hanging over me as an added burden.

Just those TWO clients and their referrals have been worth at least $30,000 in 5 years! My business does window cleaning but the concept is the same. Treat every client like your best friend. I second that. I my situation was the same as Keith. I was a Foreman/slave for 15yrs. Always scared to start my own. I finally did it. I'm hustling my ass off! I did my first $1000 day in WK 2. I did the door knocking, the FB thing, the Google thing. Basically everything Keith just said. I been in business 4mo and I've done 250yds of mulch and I have 54 lawn accounts. And I'm not cheap. I price my jobs about 10% cheaper than the big guys. This is HARD work. But I'm making 4 times what I made as a foreman ($18hr). I'm up before the sun and I do t come home til dark 6days a WK but im about to buy a dump and a plow truck. I never had the money for that at a job. Thanks Keith. Keep em coming. I know there are people out there watching this stuff thinking that it can't be this "easy" to start a landscaping business. Truth be told, it isn't easy. It's a lot of hard work. It's even more work if you don't have a lot of knowledge in the details of landscaping. However, what Keith talks about with low to no start up capital and not needing some crazy loan to get a business started is 100% legit. For me personally I had a lot of the tools needed to start my business. Hand tools and experience working in landscaping. The other stuff I didn't have I was able to borrow or rent. I'm not in the landscape maintenance side, I'm in hardscape, irrigation, renovation, that sort of thing. The principles still apply. My first 30 days out on my own I already have over $10,000 in net profit lined up. It keeps growing every day, more bids, more jobs booked out. At the rate things are going I'll be hiring an employee way sooner than I thought. Grind, work hard, take the leap, have faith in yourself. It's attainable and very worth it. What do you have to lose?

This is an AWESOME video! Creating a list of every person you know can be so intimidating for new business owners. I truly believe small business owners should be more confident and offer their services. Too many are timid thinking no one will want work done but often a personal connection makes it incredibly easy to have something done that wasn't a priority before.

I'm 18 years old and I have been working a 9-5 at a grocery store for the past year. I just recently started my own landscaping business because I don't want to be just another teen employee. This video really gave me more ideas on how to get my business started. Thank you, Mr. Kalfas.

Right behind you there. I just bought 3 lawn mower, 2 blower, 2 weedeater and looking to buy 2 ride on lawn mower just to the larger yards.
This way you can carry help if you want to do 4 house a day. My uncle Joe had 3 of us little nephews helping. 6 yards a day. We all made 100 buck each. But he made 3,000. This industry is no joke, follow your heart.

Great video, Keith. You've got a great way of presenting things with energy and coming off as sincere. I 100 percent agree with just go out there and get going. At what point do these guys get more professional estimates/bid packets, insurance, incorporate, hire employees, improve their website, etc? It seems a lot of guys get trapped with a high paying landscaping job but not necessarily a business that is giving them a ton of freedom. And you are definitely, "the dude". Thanks.

I would recommend getting a strong clientele of repeat work first, before taking on bigger jobs. That's how I've done it from starting two years ago. Landscape and gardening work is very exhausting and once your business is sustainable, evaluate and take time out to evaluate. Be wary of insurance, it happened to me two weeks ago when I accidentally applied an electrical kettle onto a gas stove, in a clients kitchen.
