It can also be used to direct a character that has the Berserk effect. Put Garr under Berserk and have him wail on an enemy. You can also use it for your allies that are Confused to redirect their attacks from you to the enemy. Of course a good whack is only needed to bring them back. BoF 2 didn't let you do friendly fire but BoF 3 did and let you use it for special effects.
Ever tried focus X 3 and an 8-hit super combo? I don't know why super combo is so unpopular with a lot of breath of fire iii players but to not use it is sin.
But yeah Super Combo is boss, I think it's unpopular because it costs more than Shadowalk and it requires hitting buttons in order. But if you land a 9 or 10 hit combo with double focus and a few of Momo's "Might"s shoved in there then...sweet jesus. I once gave Garr super Combo for a playthrough and killed Elder of Brood in quite literally one hit. I think Ryu got a Myollnir in there and a reprisal before Garr hit him for something like 2700HP. I think he only had 3000 as it is. Mental move.
Ya I had some bad encounters with him doing that for me as well and it piss the crap out of me. I had to use up alot of ammonia to keep him on his feet.
who did you mentor her first with? i use mygas or i think thats his name...the wizard/sage guy at the beginning area...and i'm not really a nina hater, i just dont like using her as much as the other characters but i did use her a lot during the beginning during ryu's childhood...well you kind of had to anyway...but i know she can get really good but the same can be said for other characters if you have the right skills, masters, and equip. i think they all can be equal if you really wanted to.
There is a box on your abilities cross, (attack, magic and so on) and the eye is the examine one. Watch the monster and when they do that special skill, you can learn it and you'll see a big "!" over their head. (I can't tell you all them because there are so many but influence is the more popular one with Goblin boss) It might not happen the first time, but keep trying and see what happens. With masters, for so many levels you upgrade with that specific master, you will learn an ability.
She's got status effecting spells which are life savers in the beginning but yah kinda suck towards the middle since they never really land on bosses. IMO she's just great! The last boss fight I've done (With the lame Fish things on the Black Ship) she was doing like a combined 600+ damage per turn...No one came close!
That took you a while ;) That multistrike against Rei was the make or break or the battle and you got damn lucky there lol. If he hadn't missed you twice, things might have turned out different because you didn't have any Ammonias left or enough AP for reviving =O

I mentored her at lvl 16 with yah Mygas. But you can mentor with Mygas pretty early on in the game which is a mistake. Actually if I were to start a game again I might even mentor her with Bunyan from lvl 10ish to 16ish then Mygas then Emetai then Deis then Emetai again. But yah all with equal balance.
If you raise dead Rei he auto becomes the weretiger and starts attacking anything that moves :P He can do a shitload of damage on Mikba though and Nina is horridly underrated.
Nina is actually really good in this game, anyone who said that she is bad is because they are only thinking on Bosses, as most of them are tolerant against magic (bad design if you ask me). Against mobs, Nina is the best choice, when I don't have Nina in my party I always feel I go through dungeons in a slower pace. Technically almost every normal enemy has an elemental weakness that Nina can exploit, and then you have Mind Sword which obvious exists for her. Against bosses Nina can change to a support job, her speed is really a great help as she can even get double turns, she can do any healing with Cure (or items, as they are very cheap in this game, and she is faster than Momo), regen AP, cure status or use support magic/skills like Shield, War Shout, Barrier, Resist, etc. It is true that Nina's magic is kind of ineffective against some bosses, but is kind of irrelevant, because with the bosses you just need Ryu in Dragon Form and everyone else is just there as an extra anyway, of course you can get a super extra help with Rei's Weretiger, but even so you need influence and Nina's speed can help with that too. I don't find a Rei, Peco, or Garr doing better than Nina against mobs for instance. Because I am definitely NOT turning Rei into a Weretiger every random battle.
Peco is good against anything if you build them right, at least. Any of the characters is perfectly usable, though. Garr is probably the worst in the end-game.
