Claes shares how his career has exploded on the global stage after his award-winning performance in The Square, starring alongside Elisabeth Moss and Dominic West. Great actor and for a native Danish actor his English accent is extraordinary. He sounds like me from west London - almost BBC Radio 4 voice. Great interview as ever thanks Rob.

When I was doing an art project for my GCSE’s based on the poem ‘the spider and the fly’ by Mary Howitt, Claes Bang was my inspiration for a character design for the spider. He is so good at becoming a manipulative and all consuming character. If anyone ever makes a film or TV adaptation of that poem Claes should play the spider. Props to me for amazing casting

Mr Bang came to my attention in "Dracula", but this was a different kind of wild - I would love to know where Claes chose his English voice/mannerisms from. His is the bloke in the queue at Lidl or sitting beside you at the football. Lovely chap - mange tak, Claes!

Claes, my husband would have pulled one over on you! I´m Danish, he´s Portuguese but we met in Denmark and moved to Portugal later. He works in the airline industry. His favorite gag is this: Upon landing, he´s one of those that hand papers to the pilots, so if the pilot is Danish, he says
"Welcome to Lisbon (or wherever)! " in near perfect Danish. The pilot usually exclaims
"Oh thanks! You speak Danish!?" and he replies, deadpan,
"Oh we all speak Danish here." He loves the momentary confusion and then laughter.

Yet another person here who came to say how convincing his English accent is. If I hadn't known that he was Danish and didn't know his name or history, I would have guessed that he was British, even though "all over the chip shop" raised an eyebrow. I can't see anything on his Wikipedia page to suggest why his accent is so good, but either he has spent a huge amount of time with British speakers or he is preternaturally good at language learning.

Claes is not quite right about his films in Denmark, him allways being cast as the lovely guy next door. We have a danish version of Bridget Jones, "Nynne" and he played the sleazy boyfriend to the leading female character who he leaves for a younger model. Mads Mikkelsen also often plays sinister roles internationally but in Denmark he often plays an unattractive lead in comedy.
