Was considering getting one last year to upgrade my 3900X, but got bored with the delays and the inexistence of a 5900X3D, so went for a 5900X, playing ultrawide 1440p with a 3080 I don't think sidegrading to a 5800X3D makes sense
Most motherboards will accept the 5800X3D with a bios flash including some that have not listed it in there support page. My friends Asus X570 Dark Hero wasn't listed but his bios was up to date and dropped the 5800X3D in and it worked.

Agree if on a decent B550 or X570 board already and even a 5600x or lesser CPU the 5800x3D is a great drop in and one can roll DDR4 for at least 2-3 more years in a gaming focused build. Its not like 8c16t is bad for mixed workloads either. If someone already has a 5900x I wouldn't swap that out and just keep it until a platform shift.
I bought the Ryzen 7 5800X3D on launch day and LOVE it!!! It replaced my Ryzen 9 3900X. Without changing any other components, it increased my FPS on Battlefield 5 and Battlefield 2042 by 30% (I have a 34 in 1440p monitor and RTX 3080TI GPU with an X570 motherboard and 3600 speed RAM)
@@bigbrave2521 You honestly shouldn't be building a new system for an old platform. The 7600X or 13600k is just as fast and cheaper in some cases depending on where you live. The best platform for future upgrades is Definitely Ryzen 7600X with B650E because its is the least expensive to build and you can upgrade it at least 2 more times with better CPU'S in the future. In 5 years B650E will still be one of the fastest platforms. All of the other platforms are at end of life and B550 and X570 is actually already past end of life. Don't start a new build on an already dead platform. Start with AM5 and B650E motherboard and 7600X CPU and DDR5 Ram. It will be slightly more expensive than doing an AM4 B550 and 5800X3D, but in 5 years time you will be thanking me for good advice because you can still upgrade your CPU to the newest Ryzen 9000 series and keep your AM5 motherboard and Ram and you can just get a 9600X CPU and it will work.
@@mountanarivera4450 i highly recommended the Thermalright Peerless cooler. It is a dual tower cooler that has great performance for only $40. There is no reason to get a bigger or more expensive cooler for a CPU that mostly uses around or under 120 watts. You should see temperatures of 65°c or about that depending on your case airflow.
What’s crazy is that with Black Friday pricing I just payed $1200 for this 5800x3d build (minus a GPU): - 5800x3d - Phanteks g360a (White) - Asus Rog Strix b550F v2 wifi mobo - Asus Rog Strix LC v2 240mm AIO - Asus Rog Strix 1000w Gold PSU - x2 3600mhz 16gb Gskill Ripjaws CL16 (couldn’t find a good 4x8 kit) - 2tb Samsung 980 Pro w/Heatsink All that’s left is a gpu and since my budget was $2500 I can splurge on the 7900xtx and pay about the same as the build you just did in this video! Now is definitely the time to build an AM4 pc for those like me who don’t want to go am5/intels next gen CPUs👍🏽
The 5800X3D is my final upgrade till well into the AM5 generation once things smooth out and prices come down. I am running the 5800X3D on the X570 Dark Hero mobo with 4x16gb 3600 CL16 Dominator sticks (overkill, I know). My intent was to not have a need to upgrade till well into the AM5 chipset life cycle.
Great timing! I just finished my list yesterday. I went with a ROG Strix B550-A, paired with the Sapphire Nitro+ 6900xt and the AK620 (white) for a white themed build. I've been watching a lot of your previous videos and that's what I wound up piecing together. Great to see a video that solidifies all that research! I appreciate all you do to help PC builders get the most out of their purchases!
I was thinking about building PC with 5800x3d CPU. While watching reviews accidentally found this video and channel. This helped me a lot with choosing the right components. I went with Gigabyte B550 Aorus Elite V2 motherboard, G.Skill Ripjaws V 2x8GB 3600 CL16 RAM (for now), Sapphire Nitro+ RX 6800 XT GPU, Crucial P3Plus 2TB SSD, Deepcool AK620 Zero Dark cooler, Deepcool PQ850M 850W Power supply and put it all into Cougar Airface case. Some parts will arrive later, but I'm sure it's gonna be great build. Thank you so much for TON of information on PC parts and how to put them together
@@matthewjohnfit6000 I'm using it for like 5 month already. Everything is perfect so far. Blazing fast compare to my old system (8400, 1050 ti). I can recommend The only thing I don't have case with usb type-c, and there's no such thing on the back of the motherboard, but all good. I'd recommend to swap case with something that have usb type-c on the front, in case if you need it
I just wanted to say thank you, this video was an invaluable resource for me when planning my very first build! I went with an NZXT N7 B550 motherboard, 32gb (4x8) of Corsair dominator plat ram 3600 c16 per your suggestion, 3080 ti founders edition, all housed in a Corsair 4000D Airflow case. I cannot recommend that white Corsair 4000X case enough. You can actually improve the airflow if you remove the front panel glass (I prefer to leave it on for aesthetic reasons). Only issue I’ve found is that you could encounter issues with a top mounted 280mm AIO and taller (RGB) RAM.
Some really good advice put across in a very well structured way, great job. I can say with experience there is not much difference in gaming performance compared to a 5800x at 3440x1440 with a 3080FE. However ever I wasn’t expecting there to be, I needed the 5800x for another build and I plan to buy a 4080ti once available. I’m running 4x8 3600 cl18 (Corsair Dominator) memory at the moment and I’m really starting to wonder if I should spend the time tightening the timings. Apparently Warzone does benefit from that and Corsair claim there is headroom in the kits to do so, even providing pdf guides on their support page to do so. I’ve not seen much large scale comparisons between the 5800x3d and 12700k which might be a fairer pricing comparison, Hardware unboxed have this on there to “do list” so that should be interesting.
I recently upgraded my 2 year old build with a 3070 ti and 750w psu. I'm still using a B450m and a Ryzen 3600. I was thinking that upgrading to the 5800X3D would satisfy my pc gaming needs for a few years. I mainly play on a 1440p ultrawide monitor. But apparently, I won't see much of a difference. Thank you for saving me from myself.
Really depends on your usecase. If you play for example demanding battle royale games like warzone or pubg on a high refresh rate 144+ Hz monitor then it might be worth upgrading to the 5800x3D to smooth out your framerate. If you are more like a single player person or play on a 60 Hz or 75 Hz Monitor, then you shouldnt really bother upgrading.
Thanks again Jason .. i upgraded after 1yr 😁 and chosen the 5800X3D with the Asus Tuf Gaming RX 6800 since i already had 32g of corsair vengeance 3600 CL16 and the Tuf Gaming B550 Pro i only use it for gaming.. 😊
This weekend I'll put my Ryzen 5800x3D build together. MB Asus ROG Strix B550, RAM 2x16Gb 4000mhz CL16 G.Skill Trident Z, Red Devil Ultimate RX 6900XT and Samsung 980 pro 2Tb. Everything will be closed in GamerStorm Quaqdstellar case. I know that RAM is a overkill but I've got it very cheap.
@@marcinzielinski2555 looks like the ram used with the 5800x 3d doesn’t really matter, I don’t think there’s much difference in performance using cheap ram to expensive, look into the results you might want to sell the ram for a cheaper set if your getting a good price
love the way your hands move in sync with your sentences. you should have been a composer... thanks for your very informative video, since i'm considering which mobo to buy soon to pair with a 5800x 3d.... tuf or rog strix seems most likely at this point. affordable with lots of options, and dual m2 suits me fine. i can't wait to get my hands on this new system since i had my current system 10 years. and its going to be like nothing i've yet experienced. on my new 4k gaming t.v
hy, tengo ryzen 5800x3d , gpu 3080 12gb y ram 2666cl 18,, mi pregunta es, si cambiando a ram de 3200 cl16 tendre un mejor rendimiento de fps en juegos?
I was running 3900x with Asus x570 mobo 3090 32gb ram and I felt i was being bottlenecked by the 3900x for gaming. Just picked up my 5800x3d and looking forward to more fps
Just did a 5800X3D build, EVGA FTW3 Ultra 3080Ti, ASUS Tuf B550 Plus Wi-Fi, G.Skillz Ripjawz 2x8 CL16 3200, Samsung Evo 970 2TB, Lian Li Galahad 240mm AIO, Lian Li Lancool II Mesh and the EVGA GT 80+ Gold 850w. Thing is a monster at 1440p, super high frames on the highest graphics settings and runs nice and cool!
As always good recommendations for the 5800X3D. Got mine last week but went with X570, Nvidia 3080 and 1000 watt power supply. Other than that it's the same parts you recommended I ordered before this video. Still rocking my old Lian Li PC-V33WX though.
@@edwardireson6901 Went with a 1000 watt because it leaves me a room to upgrade Seems there pushing the GPU power higher and higher. I should be good for 5 years now
Going for the following build: 5800x3d; rtx 4070; MSI Mag B550 Tomahawk; 1tb Samsung 970 Evo Plus NVME; Team Group 8Pack Edition 32gb (x2 16GB) Cl16-16-16-38 2r Samsung B-die; Corsair RM750x PSU. Only fear is the RAM issues some people face when building 5800x3d (some ram slots not working or faulty CPU channel) hopefully everything functions well. I'll be flashing the bios on the B550 before the build just to be safe. PS - had a bad experience with AMD GPU on my first ever PC build, Nvidia GPU has been sound on my 2nd build; rather pay that extra bit more for stability.
upgraded from Ryzen 7 1800X to Ryzen 5800X3D, on a Asus prime B350 plus with updated Bios...an oh boy...I am so satisfied, it's like I changed the whole system.
A couple of points here. GSkill Trident Z Neo 32GB (2x16) 3600 CL16 is guaranteed to be Samsung dual rank B die and it overclocks like a beast. My kit has been running like a champ at 3800MT/s 14-14-14-28 at Vdimm 1.53 and Vsoc 1.125 ProcODT 48. Second point. Don't skimp on memory just because you own the X3D, particularly if you play racing sims in VR or otherwise. L3 cache can get overflowed and that's when having low latency RAM will save you from horrible frame time drops and 1% lows. Nothing ruins immersion more than a massive stutter and 3600 or 3800 CL14 should keep you out of that.
as an existing user - I own an x370 hero vi mobo and had upgraded to an x570 viii hero, 3 months later that x570 gave me error 00 and I am to lazy to rma it to ASUS so went back to x370. now my x370 with 5800x3d fitted with a 6900xt and 4x8=32gb gskill and she is running like a champ. I thought I would see performance loss. maybe an fps here or there but she runs perfectly. just wanted to point that out to my fellow x370's and x470's give it a shot if you want to upgrade. I feel starting with the x570's ASUS 's quality went down hill. and well last 2 months you now have horror stories of it destroying 7800x3d's on there am5 boards.
I thought the 5800x3d just needed 3200mhz ram as its performance doesn't really improve with anything over that. It's even on the product description of the chip saying it supports upto that speed
Hey Can I use "AMD Ryzen 7 5800X 8-core, 16-Thread Unlocked Desktop Processor" instead of the " AMD Ryzen™ 7 5800X3D 8-core, 16-Thread Desktop Processor with AMD 3D V-Cache™ TechnologyAMD Ryzen™ 7 5800X3D 8-core, 16-Thread Desktop Processor" in the first build (12:44), and what will be the effects?
You just saved me thinking I need that X570 . Definently one of the best info channel out there and I have subscribed . I am now going to carefully rethink and save alot of cash . AMD seem to be really onto something with the 3D cache. There seem to be games where it makes a huge difference, like Star Citizen. What are X570-P and X570S?
A warning to most of you - I have run 3600 cl16 16gigs with the tomahawk and 5800x3d, there were serious stability issues with the RAM. You can get identical performance with 3200 cl16 at less price with better stability.
Going for the ak620 from deep cool. I could spend more on an AIO but noise isn't an issue for me and I wanted to save more money for a new monitor. Thanks for the suggestions!
Upgraded to the 5800x3D from my 3700x, gaming PC of course, no real workload. Basically just bach the PCU and the Grafics card since my ram was already ok. And even with the boxed 3700x fan, the temparatures are fine for the 5800x3D.
Can this cpu run with a 3060ti or a 3070? I usually just play 1080p cpu-bound games like csgo and valorant. Some people say 3080 is overkill for 1080p competitive gaming
Hello Jason. You are the go to guy for pc build questions so here goes as it wasnt specified in the video: I want to upgrade my pc to 5800x3d and i currently have 32GB of 2666Mhz RAM. Is that fast enough or should i buy faster RAM? I mostly want to play PUBG and a bunch of singleplayer games like AC, Hogwarts, Alan Wake etc. Hope this message reaches you since the internet doesnt seem to have a fixed anwser... some say yes some say no because of its bigger cache...

Question, I currently have a 3700x with an x470 mobo with 3000mhz 32gb of ram, what should I do as an upgrade path? A 5800x3d only and keep my x470 mobo and ram An 5800x3d and upgrade my mobo to an x570s and new ram or just get a 7700x and a x670 motherboard? The reason i want to stick with x570 and not just ship to AM5 is to take advantage of S.A.M, so what do you think?

Wish I had this over my 5900x. I actually had a 3950x but it and my x570 Creation mobo kicked the can. Hey! Great video hoping you can respond. In your final build, you used an mATX mobo with an ATX case. Wouldn't that look kinda awkward with all the empty space? Thanks!
Depends on your budget for upgrades, going to 5800X3D will increase your FPS but it really needs to be paired with a higher end GPU as well. I'd personally invest in a better GPU now (up to a 7900XT or 4070ti) then drop in a 5800X3D later
Hey bro i found the correct ryzen video. I was wondering if i should flash the bios on my "rog strix x470-f gaming" to make it compatible with my 5800x3d or just get the top of the line mobo off your list. Reason I'm asking is i simply don't know if my board's age will cause some kinda bottleneck, or not. Ty for helping and replying before, hope your Thanksgiving goes well, and finally, I would be grateful for an answer to this question at your convenience. Ty again
You shouldn't need to flash the bios, you'll just want to update it as normal when building a pc. Check out our "after you build setup guide" video for how to do that (its easy)
Only payed 300 bucks for that processor, now. It's insane how fast the prices fall as new stuff gets thrown onto the market. Ryzen 7 5800X 3D isn't top notch but still high end.
You'd better go for a Seasonic or a FSP PSU. Such an overkill to recommend a 1000W PSU. The Noctua NH D-15 and the ThermalRight Peerless Assassin 120 are better coolers than the Deep Cool AK620.
Love your channel! Learning a ton from you being new to this PC world. Curious question. I have a gtx 3070 gpu and just purchased a ryzen 7 5800x3d on Black Friday. In your opinion will this combo work well. Also i have 1TB of storage and 4x8 gb of ram. Thanks. Have a great day!
does the ryzen 5950x load games and boot games faster? also does the 5800x3d allow the amd cpu and gpu frame boost thing??? for the life of me i can’t remember what it’s called. 😬
Im getting 5800x3d now, what thermal paste would u recomend (noctua nt-h1, nt-h2, TG Kryonaut or mx-4)? And if cooler master masterliquid ml240p mirage will be good enough for cooling?

Glad you enjoyed it! Thank you for watching
@PCBuilderChannel i agree but 16gb of ram isn't enough for some games like cities skylines but most games should be fine
this cpu is probably going to be the best option for most of the 40X0 series/7X00 series gpus if you dont wanna pay the extreme premium for ddr5
Exactly.
or go for Raptor lake, which would still support DDR4.
@@rallyscoot Or a discounted 12700
Agree if on a decent B550 or X570 board already and even a 5600x or lesser CPU the 5800x3D is a great drop in and one can roll DDR4 for at least 2-3 more years in a gaming focused build. Its not like 8c16t is bad for mixed workloads either. If someone already has a 5900x I wouldn't swap that out and just keep it until a platform shift.

YAS!! Finally. Thank you for the love!
I bought the Ryzen 7 5800X3D on launch day and LOVE it!!! It replaced my Ryzen 9 3900X. Without changing any other components, it increased my FPS on Battlefield 5 and Battlefield 2042 by 30% (I have a 34 in 1440p monitor and RTX 3080TI GPU with an X570 motherboard and 3600 speed RAM)
which x570 you use bro tell me because i build new system for ryzen 7 5800x3D

You should see temperatures of 65°c or about that depending on your case airflow.
thats insane im going from a ryzen 9 3900xt to a 5800x3d
What’s crazy is that with Black Friday pricing I just payed $1200 for this 5800x3d build (minus a GPU):
- 5800x3d
- Phanteks g360a (White)
- Asus Rog Strix b550F v2 wifi mobo
- Asus Rog Strix LC v2 240mm AIO
- Asus Rog Strix 1000w Gold PSU
- x2 3600mhz 16gb Gskill Ripjaws CL16 (couldn’t find a good 4x8 kit)
- 2tb Samsung 980 Pro w/Heatsink
All that’s left is a gpu and since my budget was $2500 I can splurge on the 7900xtx and pay about the same as the build you just did in this video!
Something about you, love your enthusiasm and you seem like someone I would have been friends with in high school trading c64 disks.
Glad you appreciate the energy--it's possible! And thanks for watching :)
Thank you!! Good luck on the build, sounds awesome!

I would preffer 2x cl14 3200Mhz Sticks with 16gb each (because of dualrank) and your sticks will be cooled better because they have more space

Great case!! :)
They also sell a mesh front panel for $15 if you want to improve airflow.
So what you are saying is it had bad thermals and doesn't fit a rad properly. Sounds great.
Your choice of comparing to the 5700X is so valuable as this will be the other relevant option for Ryzen upgraders like myself.
So glad we could help!
So glad you enjoyed! And thank you for sharing your experience.
Hey Jason, just wanted to say that I love your vids and all the effort you put into them, cheers! Hoping to build a sff pc soon for the portability

Crazy watching this video for info about my new ryzen 7 5800x3d and seeing how 2 years ago a rtx 3080 used to be 1k
For that level of GPU performance, I'd pick up a Ryzen 5600 instead. Will bump you up about 15% without breaking the bank.

Thanks for hyping me up. I just built my first computer! Think I found my new addiction.
Congrats on your first build! Welcome to the pc building bug (;
Nice!
Is 3200/3600Mhz CL16 enough to prevent those 1% stutters, or it needs to be CL14?

as an existing user - I own an x370 hero vi mobo and had upgraded to an x570 viii hero, 3 months later that x570 gave me error 00 and I am to lazy to rma it to ASUS so went back to x370. now my x370 with 5800x3d fitted with a 6900xt and 4x8=32gb gskill and she is running like a champ.
Was wondering the same thing
Hey
Can I use "AMD Ryzen 7 5800X 8-core, 16-Thread Unlocked Desktop Processor" instead of the "
AMD Ryzen™ 7 5800X3D 8-core, 16-Thread Desktop Processor with AMD 3D V-Cache™ TechnologyAMD Ryzen™ 7 5800X3D 8-core, 16-Thread Desktop Processor" in the first build (12:44), and what will be the effects?
You just saved me thinking I need that X570 . Definently one of the best info channel out there and I have subscribed . I am now going to carefully rethink and save alot of cash . Only thing i was worried about with older mobos is can they run the newer Cpus. Note thought its really hard to find C16 4x8 at the moment . Would C17 still be okay?

Question, I currently have a 3700x with an x470 mobo with 3000mhz 32gb of ram, what should I do as an upgrade path?
A 5800x3d only and keep my x470 mobo and ram
An 5800x3d and upgrade my mobo to an x570s and new ram
or just get a 7700x and a x670 motherboard?
The reason i want to stick with x570 and not just ship to AM5 is to take advantage of S.A.M, so what do you think?

im new to pc building, i have a few questions:
Can the next gen new graphics cards (rtx 4000/5000 or rx 7000/8000) be bottlenecked by the motherboard/am4 platform because they would need a faster bandwidth? like you said these motherboards support pci4, are gpu's going to use the pci5 or so?

Ram i dont want 3200mhz i ll go with 3600 but cl 18 is availableand cl 16 is so overpriced . Do you think cl18 will be ok?
1st PC build ever- got my hands on a 6950x and the 5800x3d. Trying to figure out what other parts I want. This video helped! If anyone else had recommendations please let me know! (Motherboards,AIOs, etc). Im trying to see if I can stick to 1 brand so i can control multiple components with the same software (ex NZXT MB and AIO can be controlled within the same software).
Glad I could help!
Hey Jason,
great video like always.
can you do video about best laptops for creator/Digital art/ game development.
thank you in advance!
We actually have a new laptop video coming out soon! Researching for it now so stay tuned! (:
@@PCBuilderChannel I cant wait to see it.
thank you Jason!!
If you are looking for a good 240MM AIO, also recommend the LianLi Galahad (which i got after the EK AIO shit the bed on me after 4 mths on my R5 3600). Keeping my 5800X3D nice and cool!
How much degrees?with my deepcool castle 240mm it runs way too hot,on cinebench it goes above 90° instantly
@@shockwav3xx 5800x3d is very hot in tests while in games it feels ok
Think I will stick with my trusty 3900x till amd 7000 and am5 arrive nod
Another top quailty video as ever 👌 🙂
Thanks Jim! (;
Hey! Great video hoping you can respond.
In your final build, you used an mATX mobo with an ATX case. Wouldn't that look kinda awkward with all the empty space? Thanks!
Thanks for the recommendation to watch this video. Does the B450 Tomahawk II support this CPU? If not, how do I fix that?
Yes but you will have to update the bios.
My pc right now is 5600G with RX 6600 for now or the future do you think its worth it to go for 5800X3D then upgrade VGA. Or just save for AM5 CPU.
Depends on your budget for upgrades, going to 5800X3D will increase your FPS but it really needs to be paired with a higher end GPU as well. I'd personally invest in a better GPU now (up to a 7900XT or 4070ti) then drop in a 5800X3D later
@@PCBuilderChannel thanks
Hey bro i found the correct ryzen video. I was wondering if i should flash the bios on my "rog strix x470-f gaming" to make it compatible with my 5800x3d or just get the top of the line mobo off your list.
Reason I'm asking is i simply don't know if my board's age will cause some kinda bottleneck, or not.
Ty for helping and replying before, hope your Thanksgiving goes well, and finally, I would be grateful for an answer to this question at your convenience.
Ty again
You shouldn't need to flash the bios, you'll just want to update it as normal when building a pc. Check out our "after you build setup guide" video for how to do that (its easy)
sir i really confuse for which B550 motherboard best for all features wise Asus / Gigabyte / MSI
It's compatible the 5800x3d with the motherboard Asus ROG strix am4 zen 3 b550-a ? Btw you are the best to explain parts for PC great job keep it up 💚
Only payed 300 bucks for that processor, now.
Good combo! And so glad you're enjoying the channel! Congrats on your purchase :)
Do you think the jonsbo CR-1000GT is enough. Cause i dont want to spend money on a new cpu cooler
does the ryzen 5950x load games and boot games faster? also does the 5800x3d allow the amd cpu and gpu frame boost thing??? for the life of me i can’t remember what it’s called. 😬
Would you still recommend thos cpu simce the 7000x3d series is out or could you still build this with the new 4070 that came out
I do still recommend this, its a great CPU and can pair all the way to a 4090. If Ryzen 7000 is out of the budget I'd do this for sure
Im getting 5800x3d now, what thermal paste would u recomend (noctua nt-h1, nt-h2, TG Kryonaut or mx-4)? And if cooler master masterliquid ml240p mirage will be good enough for cooling?
Thermal Grizzly. That brand of thermal paste is really good. Hope this helps.
so I've been running an X470 (Asus Crosshair) with a 2700X and 2080ti and I was looking to upgrade to a 4090 soon but I won't be moving to 7000 series or 13th gen, should I get the X3D over a r9 5900X? (same price in my country) should I keep my motherboard or get a B550?. I use it mostly for gaming and 3d modeling with some small sesions of VR
