      +Vakken Casstafonix I only included the grinders so you CAN grind it away, like if you made it too high, or you want to deconstruct it at all. It's an OPTION not a necessity.

      +RySome space elivaitor whould be usfull if they made it more challenging to build a ship like if you had to have a ship core with is extreemly expensive and the same goes with rovers but they wil be less expensive it whould make it more challenging

      May as well just have med-bay respawn points at the different places and have this as one big pipe-line, so you just put your stuff in it then respawn.

    Cool, our first assignment in Solid Mechanics was actually to design a space elevator cable. Everyones conclusion was that we need graphene or carbon nanotubes to do it, if you did it using steel the "cable" would have to be something like 1000 meters thick at the end and nanometers thin at the bottom, in other words not possible. With nanotubes/graphene you could get away with a centimeter thick cable at the end and milimeter thick at the botom, which would be doable :D

    You could just stack more welders on top of the capsule to increase the distance from when the welding of the rail begins so the welders weld faster, allowing you to travel at higher speeds.

    the real question is, can it withstand gravity as large as .6 g's?

  • @justsoicanfingcomment5814
    @justsoicanfingcomment5814 8 лет назад +1

    If you make the pillar out of conveyor blocks you could just build a pipe line to space and send supplies to build more from the bottom.

  • @ohheyitspaul
    @ohheyitspaul 9 лет назад

    Do you think the normal thrusters will work with the planets gravity? Also, how high do you get before the storage containers run out of materials.

    • @RySome
      @RySome  9 лет назад

      +Paul Wilson Normal thrusters work just fine! Check out Panurga's video here: ruclips.net/video/57Aehn5_w54/видео.html
      About the cargo, I honestly don't know! Unfortunately someone pointed out to me that the conveyors are too small to transport materials so ill need to rework that. I highly reccomend you download the craft and give it a try for yourself! :D

    1 Why do you need to grind the shaft going downwards?
    2 does it actually smoothly tolerably go up into space and back?

    • @RySome
      @RySome  9 лет назад

      +Captain Katawa Glad you asked! The grinders are there if the Pilot of the elevator decides that they no longer need the elevator shaft. It's no a requirement or anything, It
      s just there so if you want to get rid of the elevator shaft, you can! And yes! this craft can easily glide up and down from space and back, In fact, on the way down, this thing can really pick up some speed!

    • @benriddle5487
      @benriddle5487 9 лет назад

  • @tadsilverthorn5329
    @tadsilverthorn5329 8 лет назад

    So you didn't really put anything in the Video about this and so I have a question... How the hell does it move down the shaft without gravity pulling it into the base and destroying it? Do the wheels press so tightly that it basically locks it while no control is being pressed or is it the downward thrusters that keep it locked into position? Do you just press the thrusters to make the upward facing ones fire to descend? If so, how do you control the speeds against the gravity to prevent the inevitable crashing to the surface? I've built a lot of planetary landers and let me tell you, it takes a LOT of opposed thrust to counter a 1.0 Gravity field, especially if you have a small cargo/mining ship or vehicle attached to the elevator. And it looks like it only uses Ion thrusters which are useless once you enter the atmosphere, which means you would need to replace them with hydrogen thrusters. The issue then would be the fact that you need hydrogen tanks to fuel it which take up more space and jack up the design, so you'd have to deconstruct the whole thing just to fit it with such thrusters. And then there is the fuel problem, being that it is likely you would burn up whatever hydrogen you could fit inside the thing before you got halfway up or down it... Have you tested this with actual vanilla gravity mechanics or no? Sorry for long post. Also I'm not trying to be a jerk, I know it comes off like that. I'm just curious as to it's actual functionality in current game builds (vanilla) :)

    • @tadsilverthorn5329
      @tadsilverthorn5329 8 лет назад

      +Tad Silverthorn Also I should say that this is something I have really been dying for lately. Currently it takes these massive ships or platforms (For platforms it takes up something like 60 Million kg in mass) all fitted with an insane amount of hydrogen thrusters which in turn takes an insane amount of fuel that burns up quickly, in order to land/take off of a 1.0 G planet. This is the only way I can justify building a base or facility on a planet. Ice for oxygen for example, is best harvested on planets where a stationary mining drill can usually get enough ice for a straight year of playtime on a single world, or for maintaining Hydrogen farms once you use an electrolysis generator (they call them oxygen generators in SE) system to separate the atoms. For hydrogen the drills need to be mobile as the ice in a single area will deplete and hydrogen burns too quickly for that small amount to maintain. In addition those platforms for planetary landing take hydrogen to ascend/descend as I said so they usually burn up more than 3/4ths of the payload by the time I get to orbit. So a platform that can go from the planet to orbit capable of hauling that cargo off-world using minimal resources in terms of thrust is something that is very, very, veeerry appealing to me. It's an awesome concept and if you were to keep working on it i'm sure many others would find it very useful. I would be willing to assist you on the design parameters if you want I just don't have time(patience) to construct the damned thing myself. Though I may download your outdated model just to see what tweaks I can make to qualify my specification of low-resource usage orbital transport.

      +stefastra The purpose of the grinders are to give the ability to grind down the shaft when it is no longer needed. You don't need to use them every time you want to go down the shaft. :p

      +exelsiar build the cart first then just a few blocks of the rail. put it on, finish the rail. (in case of non self building space elevators)
      or put it onto the rail on top (in space) if thats an option for you.

      oh and almost forgot. tho' hard for some cart designs:
      if you rail is already placed and you want to build a cart or replace the current one you can also build 2 halfes and use mergeblocks then

  • @sidowninc
    @sidowninc 9 лет назад

    Awesome and creative man, I like it a lot!
    I would leave the block tower there and attach it to a space bay or station for ships to dock and be repaired.
    This would be kinda kool case then the ships wouldn't need to dock on the planet itself, they would just use the elevator.
    In fact there could be several of these lifts scattered strategically on important regions of the planet.

    2 questions -
    i dnt think this would work with current game, it just falls over
    & how too you in creative, via blueprints, place the vehicle onto the base?

    • @RySome
      @RySome  9 лет назад

      +zak cooper The Elevator was built before planets, so it needs to be retrofitted; add hydrogen thrusters, other tweaking. The base platform should be perfectly fine as long as you embed it slightly into the surface. Placing the Elevator is a bit tricky. I usually just place the blue print right over the pillar and let the elevator fall into place. Not the best way, though I haven't found a better one!
      Hope that helps :D

    now all the design needs is the capability to build all the way to Geo-Synchronous orbit, where you could simply throw a payload off the platform and it would stay in space :D

    • @nerdsoft9964
      @nerdsoft9964 9 лет назад

      That's not orbit though, that's just leaving the gravity of the planet. But I think it might well be able to, I mean if you extend the hologram...

    • @astro-knot9598
      @astro-knot9598 9 лет назад

      It ain't leaving the gravitational pull of a planet. It's orbiting.
      Here,read this:
      en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Geostationary_orbit
      I tried to type out an explanation of my own but at the end of it all, I didn't even understand myself! xD

    • @nerdsoft9964
      @nerdsoft9964 9 лет назад +1

      One-Way Films In real life, yes, it'd be orbit. But in Space Engineers planets don't rotate, so you wouldn't be in orbit by default. You'd just be sitting outside the gravitational pull.

    • @astro-knot9598
