Hello, this is a very lovely pattern and thank you for uploading the tutorial. I am trying to crochet this for my Grandmother, however she is quite short lol. Is there a specific amount that I should chain to or does the pattern only require an even number of chains? Thank you in advance.

I really tried to enjoy it, but this is overly complicated. The foundation stitches and jeopardizing the structural integrity by constantly cutting and restarting. Love the way it looks, but really not a fan of the pattern. I feel it could have been worked more and tested more to come up with a less complicated and more straightforward way of making it.

It is definitely a lot of trouble with the restarting and understandably may not be worth it to everyone. Unfortunately, the half double crochet stitch only creates this particular look when worked in one direction. You can create the look without turning if working in the round, but not back and forth in rows for a traditional scarf like this one.
