I find it hilarious during the tank grading video you joked about the custodes tank knowing karate, but now skimmers can legitimately roundhouse kick people from deep strike.
I think one of my main issues with the index system stems from ideas put forth when watching Bricky’s initial pre-release videos reading through the WarCom articles. Namely, the idea that with this new way of laying out datasheets, minor balance changes should have been infinitely easier than they have been, because they can change individual values without breaking a million other things in the game. Are Hormagaunts woefully underperforming? Increment their weapon strength, AP, movement, or any combination of the above and see what happens. The new dataslate has shown that they ARE willing to do these changes when needed (bumping Exocrine’s cannon strength, increasing the number of attacks for Sicarians, etc), which leads to the obvious question: why not have more frequent small-scale updates along these lines to keep the game fresh for all factions? And the answer my inner cynic keeps coming back to is “because then no one will buy the index cards” As much as I despise full army rules being tied to codexes, even that would have been bearable if that was the only factor at play. But instead GW just had to double dip and has fully bitten itself in the ass by being unable to make the changes that could keep the game healthier moment to moment, out of fear of upsetting the bean counters. My issue with the Guard reinforcement CP cost modification thing is that at the start of the edition, logic was "Well the unit is no longer there, so you can't target them with the thing that makes the strat free", whereas now it's "Well the unit used to be there, so you can target them with the thing that makes the strat more expensive". Just feels like losing both times but the logic did a 180. Also thank you Berilio for your sacrifice.

I think the reason Belakor got a point drop despite being good is that his unique "thing" of giving shadow of chaos in an aura around him is no longer special now that every other greater daemon also does that. Belakor still has the advantage of doing it for all god units simultaneously, but it is less of an advantage when compared to no one else having it at all.

The new Vect does not work with Reinforcements. It's now an aura ability and as the Index Card FAQ states the reinforced unit is off the board when you use the stratagem and can't be targeted by aura abilities.

The overhanging bases from the board edge means you can fit the tiger shark base over the edge to keep it within 6 inches of the board edge and you can actually use the model when it comes in
yeah you can run 18 sentinels in a 2k point guard list (including armoured and scout) and give them all hunter killers, chainsaws and plasma/autocannons with lethals against everything to just melt entire lists. this block does cost you $810 plus the other 935 points of guard you need (just use a baneblade and some infantry)
And it's also kinda bad. Kekw. Plasma cannon is just D3 shots plasma with blast. No even a bit of extra strength. Your infantry guys in rapid fire range with order shoot flat 3 attacks. So damage-wise just better to take scion blob
Oldbeard here! One of the things that people were worried about, in 5th and 6th edition, that kept AdMech from being an army was "To do them justice, they'd need to be incredibly detailed, and that would make them incredibly expensive when one of their major fluff themes is being relatively horde-y". When the army was released anyway, many of us saw what was released and were like "Yeah, this looks incredibly good, but also, we were right". Nothing about this has changed since, and I doubt anything will without a complete rewrite to what it means to be AdMech At War.
Thank you, Berillio, for putting this together! It was fun to listen to. Two thoughts from the conclusion: firstly, the problem of how to update rules when it's all in print form was solved around sixty years ago: looseleaf binders. I've played some "big crunchy" games in my time, many of which predate the internet, and systems like Harn or Star Fleet Battles sold their rules as bundles of looseleaf that you put in a binder. And then, when they updated that section, they sold you the supplement or the errata pack and you replaced the pages. And when the internet came along, they'd just post the errata pages as a PDF and you printed them out and put them in your binder. Hell, that's how actual for real laws work, too - any textbook on a subject that changes a lot, like divorce law or drunk driving, is a binder and you replace pages when things change. So yes, just making the damn rules free and then update the rulebook when it changes would be a major improvement in customer experience - but if one *must* hold onto the "paid hardcopy rules" model, the solution *exists*. Secondly: I'm roughly a generation older than Brad and Eric, and my main gaming experience is with ruls that are roughly a generation older as well. My initial impulse on hearing Brad's complaints about being bored was "ah, kids these days," but then it occurred to me: I wonder how much game design has changed in the last 20 years, and if that has resulted in the solutions *I* used to solve the "this is always the same game" problem aren't adequetely supported any longer? Because in games like Star Fleet Battles or Stargrunt II or Battletech, or especially the various historical games (if you think your 40K army has limited options, try out World War 2 British/Canadian/Australian, where the equipment barely changed. The main difference between the Canadian Army in 1939 and the Canadian Army in 1945 is in 1945, your Serjeants and Corporals can have submachineguns and the infantry section drops from 10 men to 8) you found ways to change it up by altering the objectives of the *game,* moving away from "kill them all" to things like "rescue those hostages" or "prevent the enemy from crossing the board" or "get at least half your force off the far side of the board" or whatever. And 3rd Ed 40K did the same thing, encouraging players to have an actual story and objective and *reason* for the battle. That's how we kept in interesting back when dinosaurs roamed. I wonder how much of Brad's concern stems from not putting the imagination in - my first assumption - and how much is becaus the current rules don't facilitate such a thing?
I don't have time to do a whole write up on it, but your second point is absolutely worth a full discussion about game design from both a casual to competitive standpoint and a past generations to modern design one. I really like when a comment gets my gears turning and wanting to open up some of my old game design books.
Here's the update, but it's scattered like the pages in the Slenderman park and you only understand the notes if you already have a full book, which on its own is now useless. Also, the Slenderman is still hunting you.
I always love when Bricky's on. Not only is he himself such a delight and a funny guy, but specifically his chemistry with Brad and Eric is wonderful. You all just work together to become greater than the sum of your parts!
You not being able to keep something in stock sounds familiar. What can i say you either die a hero or you live long enough to see yourself become the villain.
Expansion on why drukhari players are a little pissed. The ravagers went up at the beggining of 10th because of ynnari, scourges are now going up because of ynnari. While scourges are obnoxious with move shoot move, the darklances hit on 4's and would wound the importance targets on 3's and 4's, while only being ap3 agaisnt everything having cover. So while still good dark lances have a high variance. The scourges didnt need a point increase in drukhari, they needed a 10 point increase in ynnari. If the ynnari detachment in aeldari gained a rule that makes you pay 5-10 extra for drukhari units it would make ynnari easier to balance without affecting drukhari.
Its insane how little eldar player representation they have, but yes. I think out of the 3 nerfs drukhari have has, 2 of them are only because of ynnari, and the other one is because GW just hates being able to play with flyer models. If you filter that stuff out, we have been consistently dropping in points because of our actual army's performance.
I appreciate the "Hey, if you spoil this for our guy, you're banned." header up front. As someone who tries really hard to avoid spoilers, it means a lot.
CSM Legionaires are one of the biggest damage dealers in the faction, a 5-man squad with 2 heavy weapons is insane. I'm still running 4 post-nerf. They were good at current cost earlier this edition, they were insane at 80pts. Raptors and Havocs make 0 sense to nerf, and Warptalons eating the double nerf really hurts.
The update delivery is so strange to me. I didn’t even know about some of the parts until I saw this. I’m new to tabletop and while everything is not analogous I can’t help but think imagine if this was a video game (let’s not even begin to talk about the paid rules). “Hey did you see the new update?” > Yeah I read the patch notes on the update page “Oh no, you need to look at the update page patch notes, but also the game rules has it’s own patch notes seperately, BUT ALSO, all the factions have their own patch notes” Is this just the dark timeline of “No one ever released a good free PDF editor so no one trusts people to use print ranges to print only the pages they want” Also I so agree with the just give us updated cards. I will admit I’m a suck who bought the physical cards, I like having them. But just let me print out the updates in the same format so I can atleast cut out the new stuff and glue it over top or something
As a sisters player, I will miss my exorcist hitting indirects on 3s, but it’s probably for the best. Also, good luck throwing the Elden Ring into the fire Berilio… or whatever Elden Ring is about.
Thank you, Berílio, for sacrificing your life and your Shadow of the Erdtree time to get this video out. May the motive force be sweet to your computer and the Omnissiah bless your editing software. (if anyone asks, I looked up the Portuguese Wikipedia page for Beryllium and that's how I found this spelling)
Something you didn't notice about Zoanthropes and the Neurotyrant. Big Guns Never Tire lets Monster Units shoot while in melee, however it only gives the -1 to hit to Monster *Models*. So your Neurotyrant has its auto hit flamer and doesn't care about that penalty, and then the Zoanthropes can still hit on a 2+ despite being in melee.
Fully agree on free digital rules, but they could even compromise like AOS. AOS makes the datasheets(warscrolls) free and makes the specific subfactions and artifacts and things the restricted parts in the app. So you can easily build lists and know what your units do, but if you wanna use army rules you need the book. So people who want to look at how your model works can, and the only stuff they need to ask you are things they'd rarely need outside of a game, plus list building is mostly fine.
They can even keep buyable physical codices, but instead of selling them then rendering them obsolete, sell them as a capstone to the edition and bring more lore in, SPECIFICALLY writing in narrative lyrics translated tournament results. Let plays feel like they have INFLUENCED the story, even if it's just text in a book.
@@johnj.spurgin7037 I like this idea, that’s fun. Or better yet, do the codex paid rules but give me a way to buy them digitally for $20 and say “The physical version will be after the digital and the rules inside are essentially considered vestigial. Ignore them if you’re a normal person”
@@johnj.spurgin7037I do not need all the imperium players brute forcing the results for in universe battles just because too many people play imperium.
Honestly there is no reason for us players to make compromises here. Printed rules are not working for a properly changing game (God bless GW for coming onto the idea of Dataslates after 9 editions) and to be honest, GW makes absolutely insane profit margins with models alone, incorporating price hikes every couple years. I do not see why you should buy a regular ass squad for 50 euros only to have to pay extra for being able to field them.
THANK YOU BERYLLIO! Yeah if the actual core rules were just a living document you could look up that had a side bar or something with a literal patch note history that would be the best solution to all of this madness, they could even make the patch notes into bookmarks, so if you really wanted you could click on a patch note and it would jump you directly to the section that was changed, but unfortunately that would require GW to actually think, so no dice there.
I agree with Brad on the Necrons. Warriors need to go down to 8pts each Triarch Praetorians, Annihilation Barges, Triarch Stalkers, and more need to go down too. The internal balance is still not great
You cant increase the cost of the reinforce strategem for the same reason guard cant reduce it, because the unit is not on the battlefield, the new guard faqs calls this out
Thank you, Beryllio. At the end of Elden Ring, the Tarnished looks at the screen and breaks into a Mongolian throat singing rendition of Billie Eillish's Bad Guy. It was really bizarre, but somewhat charming.
Thank you beryllio for sacrificing your weekend so I can have my free entertainment that I don't truly appreciate also in the elden ring dlc you fight enemy's spoiler alerts
What I'm getting from this video is: - Core Rules changes: Anti "That Guy" spray - Balance Dataslate: Actually trying to fix a lot of factions, and doing so largely successfully - MFM: Make sure Sisters ain't as overpowered as Jenny in the trivia episode, empty the Forge World warehouses
Honestly, I worry about Daemons. What other detachments can their codex give them that stands up to the index detachment? They can solve the index problem with drip-feed free detachments and then still selling codexes, but ONLY at the exact end of the edition, and they can further incentivize this by writing the results of major tournaments into the lore section.
I think the main complaint I have heard from Guard players is that the rules changes in this data slate - army rule punishing super heavies, indirect change nerfing artillery, reinforcements change nerfing infantry horde - has pushed the guard into a strictly one lane army of hybrid/tanks in an edition that is already tank heavy. And simultaneously removing most list building directions in an army that is already suffering from index fatigue is really punishing and a huge nerf, not from a rules perspective, but from a meta one, and why the overall reaction to the changes from the guard community has been so negative.

yeah you can run 18 sentinels in a 2k point guard list (including armoured and scout) and give them all hunter killers, chainsaws and plasma/autocannons with lethals against everything to just melt entire lists. this block does cost you $810 plus the other 935 points of guard you need (just use a baneblade and some infantry)
Editors are almost always the silent heroes of RUclips channels. I am a little late to getting to this video due to busy day but thank you Berillio!
Fantastic work Berillio.
And I can't wait for you to see how they worked Sturm Tigers into Shadow of the Erdtree.
"...so you don't have to compile your own rules"
[Laughs nervously in thirty years of house rules]
Let another 2 hour hobby session BEGIN
Here's the update, but it's scattered like the pages in the Slenderman park and you only understand the notes if you already have a full book, which on its own is now useless. Also, the Slenderman is still hunting you.
Thank you funny Brazilian man for your hard work and countless hours gloriously rendering the majesty and ginormity of Bricky's forehead.
Thank you to everyone for keeping me sane at work. Love you guys. Youre the only reason i havent given up on this hobby.
Once again A+ work on the Thumbnail. And thank you thank you thank you Berilio ❤
Thank you Beryllio. Editing Poorhammer must be the dark souls of podcast editing
“Hey did you see the new update?”
> Yeah I read the patch notes on the update page
“Oh no, you need to look at the update page patch notes, but also the game rules has it’s own patch notes seperately, BUT ALSO, all the factions have their own patch notes”
Is this just the dark timeline of “No one ever released a good free PDF editor so no one trusts people to use print ranges to print only the pages they want”
Also I so agree with the just give us updated cards.
There is a minor benefit to native 3+ BS on indirect. You can ignore to-hit penalties because they are functionally irrelevant.
I’m sad they didn’t mention the index erattas, they definitely shadow nerfed Votann and a couple other armies.
Thank you, Berilio. Your editing is appreciated, as always :)
Bigs thanks to Beryllio for his hard work and enjoy the DLC ^^
I, for my part, have a lot of Zoanthropes to paint.
I was foiled by GW announcing that AOS is getting a new app that’s just the 40K app so we’re just boned. Thanks James
The Man, the Brick, the legend
The Good, the Bad, the Bricky
Thanks for putting this together.
Whilst the Inner Circle dudes don't have an invul save, the entire squad gets one if Azrael is attached.
Did you know in the new Elden Ring DLC you fight Abbadon alongside Jesus Christ and Son Goku
No, but I am aware of the biblically accurate angel.
@@johnj.spurgin7037 Yeah that guy is a sucker to fight against
Thank you, Berilio for sacrificing your weekend so that someone like me who doesn't play 40k can enjoy the podcast on my Tuesday afternoon.
I agree with Brad on the Necrons. Warriors need to go down to 8pts each
Triarch Praetorians, Annihilation Barges, Triarch Stalkers, and more need to go down too.
The internal balance is still not great
Thank you so much Beryllio!!! Hope you have an amazing time with the DLC!
Beryllio thank you for sacrificing your weekend to get the video done on time.
I don't usually do this part of the pleasantries, but something felt different today.
Thank you, Beryllio.
Elden Ring DLC slaps, just make sure to get the Scadutrees or you will get clapped
The new big knight ability keyword should absolutely be "KOOL-AID MAN" or perhaps "OH YEAH!"
Finally I can have an opinion on the dataslate, thanks Beryllio
Beryllio you are an absolute gent for all your hard work. It is greatly appreciated
You cant increase the cost of the reinforce strategem for the same reason guard cant reduce it, because the unit is not on the battlefield, the new guard faqs calls this out
Thank you daddy B. The Land of Shadow is certainly the basement they have you editing in.
A good soldier follows orders! Thanks Berillio! Enjoy Elden Ring!
Thank you Beryllio for sacrificing yourself before the golden throne of editing
Pour one out for my boy Beryllio, he’s facing the hardest Elden Ring boss of all - more waiting.
What I'm getting from this video is:
- Core Rules changes: Anti "That Guy" spray
- Balance Dataslate: Actually trying to fix a lot of factions, and doing so largely successfully
- MFM: Make sure Sisters ain't as overpowered as Jenny in the trivia episode, empty the Forge World warehouses
Praise the Berillio! I mean the Omnisia...
I can’t believe john elden took to ring (thank you for your sacrifice beryllio)
Thank you editor who I can’t spell the name of (I do know your name!). I personally appreciate the hard work you do for this podcast.
obligatory berryellow congradulations
I think the main complaint I have heard from Guard players is that the rules changes in this data slate - army rule punishing super heavies, indirect change nerfing artillery, reinforcements change nerfing infantry horde - has pushed the guard into a strictly one lane army of hybrid/tanks in an edition that is already tank heavy. And simultaneously removing most list building directions in an army that is already suffering from index fatigue is really punishing and a huge nerf, not from a rules perspective, but from a meta one, and why the overall reaction to the changes from the guard community has been so negative.
Thanks Berílio! Always great to have Poorhammer Brick-casts!
As someone who treats base sizes as a challenge and build dioramas on them, I like these being offical changes.
Make one account, share the password with the boys then redeem the codex code on the shared account. I play alpha legion I'm thematically sneaky
We are glad you're on the team Beryllio. I listed to audio while doing house work and am now doing video while painting some nids warriors.
Happy tech priest commenting for metrics
"Morven Vahl is not a Star-God" My Vahlgons killed a Forgefiend, a Venomcrawler, 5 legionnaires with a Chaoslord and 5 Possesed in a SINGEL Turn. They are cracked and i love them for it
