The "Anti TikTok" bill will destroy all freedom online PERIOD. It will give the Government FULL power to put any U.S. Citizen under surveillance for simply saying ANYTHING they don't like under the guise of being a terror ist. They can also Arrest and sentence you to over 20 years and fine you a million dollars and NONE OF IT CAN BE CONTESTED. Oh yeah it also makes VPN's 100% illegal and a federal crime.
Edit: The bill has nothing to do with tiktok either.

There were so many legitimate concerns about TikTok congress chose NOT to address
This is true. Because congress is going after TikTok for the wrong reasons. They're not actually concerned about American people and making sure the app is safe for us and our children. They're concerned about how quickly information can be spread, and that Americans can get more accurate news there than via the mainstream media. They want it shut down, because if we ever wise up and rise up, tiktok will be one of our tools and they're scared of it. They're going after tiktok because they care about themselves.
That's because it would require them to understand the fundamentals of apps, and what differentiates TikTok from others in the same category. Something the majority of them are woefully incapable of doing.
It would have been nice if someone covered the fact that Tiktok is owned by a genocidal government that no one is holding accountable for:
--genocide against Tibet, Uyghurs, Mongolians, and probably more
--the horrific fate of political dissidents, people of faith (Uyghur Muslims, house Christians, Falun Gong, and more)
--the fact that the CCP actively condones slave labor and CCP-owned companies engage in it constantly
--the fact that the CCP harvests organs from live prisoners
--the willful destruction of economies around the world through the belt and road initiative, product dumping, and intellectual property infringement, all of this actively done by CCP-owned companies
--illegal overfishing in other countries' waters, harming their people and the ecology at the same time
--the untold numbers of unsafe products full of cadmium, lead, and other toxins the CCP is actively trying to slip into every country in the world via bad apps like Temu and Aliexpress and Amazon
--how Hong Kong ers were treated when they peacefully protested for their freedom, which was taken from them as the CCP willfully broke its international agreement with the UK
--the fact that the CCP colluded with the US to create the beer virus (which our government needs to be held accountable for too
--the fact that the CCP mass executed untold numbers of its own people, starving them in their own homes during the draconian lockdowns of the pandemic
No app from the CCP should EVER be allowed in the United States. No PRODUCT made in China under CCP rule should be allowed in the United States. Or any country that purports to value human rights.

I'm as suspicious of TikTok as the next person, but if it's going to be taken down, it should be taken down fairly. None of this kangaroo court nonsense where it's clear they've already made up their minds.

I get that enough from my parents, and they’re mid-50s, thank you.
Reminds me of when I was 8 and always had to set my grandma’s and my mom’s VCRs to record shows.
Actually, I think I set up Grandma’s VCR when she got it. And I set up her DVD player when she got it. And my brother set up her surround sound system and her Wi-Fi.
But at least my now-80-year-old grandma can admit that she doesn’t understand technology and needs help with it.
She doesn’t pretend that she fully understands it and is capable of criticizing tech CEOs and of making laws regarding tech.
She lets us and our kids explain it to her as best we can, and she defers to us when she needs help.

I think the funniest (and saddest) part is that all the jokes are literally just what happened, 1 to 1. We cannot exaggerate the ridiculousness anymore because it's at the top.
Kansas and California were really funny with the tornado thing. Also, I love how this show has become a reminder to call my family in Los Angeles and ask them about weird weather events.

This is why there needs to be term and age limits in congress.
I only say age because it is really worrying that in the age of internet and social media the average age of congress is between 58 and 64 years old and most of the big players are older than that.

I actually was in a building in the middle of the tornado in SoCal. Yea it wasn’t a Midwest Tornado but it still came outta nowhere and did enough damage to basically shut down the street I was on. So much debris and broken cars and windows everywhere.

I finally met someone who knew that the Chiefs and Royals were Missouri teams (that us Kansans have unofficially adopted since we don't have pro teams of our own) but honestly did not know that Kansas was a state. He saud " I thought it was just a random 'Word City', you know, like Dodge City." ... Dodge City IS in Kansas.

I grew up in Topeka, KS and went to KU. That whole bit with CA calling KS and KS about the tornado is SPOT ON! Seriously, I was "today yrs old" when I found out the Tornado Fujita scale doesn't start with F-1. Is it even a tornado if it's less than an F-1? I just figured it was a windy day.
Technically, F0 does exist, but they are so un-news worthy in the Midwest you probably won't hear about unless it's going through your neighborhood.
As Someone who lives in NC, I feel that. It'd be like getting called about what to do about a T.D. or T.S., like c'mon it's not even a Cat 1! And in all honesty aside from special cases like Florence, the response would be more accurate with "C'mon it's not even a Cat 3!"

The question being if it can connect to other devices on your WiFi network. If being connected to the Wi-Fi on your phone what Tik-Tok be able to interact with other devices on the network

most of the reasons to ban tiktok aren't even mentioned, which is that the CCP laws require TikToks parent company to give the CCP COMPLETE ACCESS to the data. Foreign governments spying on us isn't really something preferable when they actively try to subvert the USA government. And most western governments

They had long since banned tiktok off most government devices by the time of the hearing. The hearing was people grandstanding instead of properly probing tiktok to see what data is sold directly to the CCP or not, and to discuss user privacy concerns.
Unfortunately al the concerns with tiktok, outside of CCP influence, can also be directed to many of the current big social media titans in the US.

So if they have permissions to monitor communications of associates of them or just random corporate espionage or something. "Is TikTok in the room with us" is actually a perfectly reasonable question.
I'm assuming that they subpoena someone to be designated as a specific kind of witness. Then, for the purpose of the deposition or interview, that witness has been authorized to BE TikTok. They are supposed to be able to answer all any any questions in specified categories that would be info that anyone in TikTok would know about those categories. This may mean the witness having to go interview other workers or do research before the deposition/interview.
So asking "Is TikTok in the room with us" is asking if this person is the designated rep, and asking if he's properly educated on the designated topics to answer because right now, he is TikTok.
