    Thank you for bringing more attention the ROM!

      @DamianMQR-y4d 3 месяца назад +7

      @user-jp2gt1ni7j Many of the changes I made should be universal for e-ink devices so a port for them wouldn't be too hard. Unfortunately the other Hisense phones, at lease AFAIK, don't have a way to unlock the bootloader preventing custom ROMs from being installed.
      It MIGHT be possible to do through edl but I am not too sure and it carries too much risk for me to recommend doing it to anyone, I bricked my first A5 trying.

      The A5 PRO CC has a guide in xda to unlock the bootloader, root it and install gapps. Do you think the same images for the A9 could be used for this one too then?

      @ChalidRaqami  3 месяца назад +13

      Yes, price unfortunately is an issue here, but that's part because it has to be imported from China. It's much cheaper there and I suspect if Hisense would have launched it internationally themselves, it would have been around 350 Euros/USD.

    Have the A9 for a little over a year as well and I love it! I've been somewhat curious about flashing a rom on it but was concerned about possible optimisations issues. Your video shows that it's generally fine, so I might consider giving it a try in the future. Thanks for that! My only concern now is that reverting back to InkOS doesn't seem to be an easy task if anything goes wrong.

    • @ChalidRaqami
      @ChalidRaqami  3 месяца назад +6

      Yep, reverting back to the stock ROM isn't as easy as flashing a custom ROM unfortunately. But since an EDL cable isn't too expensive, I just had to try - and I'm glad I did.
      I'd recommend getting the EDL cable and start tinkering when you have enough time on your hands. I tried so many different setups (launchers, icon bakcs, widgets ...) when first setting up LineageOS that I invested much more time than I care to admit :D But I'm happy with what I got now and have shown in the video.

    • @PokePiku
      @PokePiku 3 месяца назад

      @@ChalidRaqami I'm definitely ordering an EDL cable if I'm gonna do it. At least I'll have some peace of mind having backups of the original images even if I don't brick my phone right away.
      When I first set up the Hisense I tried Niagara Launcher because I figured it'd look great on an e-ink phone. Loved it ever since, to the point I ended up installing it on my regular OLED phone (which actually runs LineageOS haha) as well! I don't think I'm changing my setup anytime soon and will definitely copy it over even if I move my Hisense to LineageOS. :) Yours looks very clean as well!

Like you, I flashed lineageOS first, and all the guides for rooting provide a Stock Rom boot.image, which I guess would not work once lineageOS is installed? If they ever come out with a truly decent smartphone with a color e-ink display and 24 hrz refresh or more (at least standard animation fps as a baseline) for $600 or less I'm jumping on that shiz in a heartbeat. Even the color e-ink in my kobo clara colour is damn close to being justifiable for what I'm looking for since I'm kinda trying to dial back my phone usage anyway. It just needs to refresh better and quicker enough to show animations and short video without it looking terrible so my Pokemon Go and what not is still enjoyable enough, and I'm all in

      But they are not like E-Ink. It's essentially a regularly backlit LCD screen with blue-light reduction on a hardware level and a nano-etched front glass. So readability is much more comfortable compared to regular phones, thanks to that no-glare front glass.
      But it's not a reflective display technology so it's a very different experience to E-Ink.

    why did you get A9 and not A9 pro?

    • @con-rob
      @con-rob 3 месяца назад +2

      There is no "Pro" version technically. You can get more RAM (up to 8GB) or Storage (up to 256GB) but it's still this same model.

      I think the Hisense A7 is a dual-sim 5G phone, but haven't verified it myself.

    Can't devs use color e ink on these devices ?

    • @ChalidRaqami
      @ChalidRaqami  3 месяца назад +3

      No, unfortunately not - the hardware is missing for that and I haven't seen a 6.1" color E-Ink panel yet. The Bigme Hibreak Color has a 5.84" screen, but that has a noticeably lower resolution than color E-Ink devices with Kaleido 3.

      @@ChalidRaqami Hisense A7 CC has a kaleido 2 screen. It's only 100 PPI, but hey, it's a 6.7" screen. It does exist.

      Just tested it quickly an it worked without any issues. Got a quick GPS fix, correct direction thanks to build-in compass shown and routing and navigation also started fine. I didn't test it extensively though ...

    let me know how you were able to sign into your bank application on lineageOS

    • @ChalidRaqami
      @ChalidRaqami  3 месяца назад +2

      I didn't try specific banking apps, but with root access and using the Magisk module safetynet-fix (github.com/Displax/safetynet-fix/releases/tag/v2.3.1-MOD_3.0) it will pass safetynet check in YASNAC for both basic integrity and CTS profile match.
      After adding the banking app the the Magisk deny list, it should work - but some apps can still detect root regardless. If that's the case, further tinkering with LSPosed is needed, which I haven't tried (yet). But that really depends on the banking app - no way of knowing other than trying specific apps.
