  • OUTBACK EP10: Uluru scenic flight at sunrise. Departing Ayers Rock airport and flying around Uluru and The Olgas on the VFR scenic route. A magical experience seeing the rock from the air. Afterwards, I fly on to William Creek for fuel, then have to decide between Broken Hill or Griffith Airports.

    I am a professional in the video production industry, and I can categorically say that Stef has some of the best editing out there for a small RUclipsr. It just goes to show how film-making as an industry is so easy to get started in. Todays episode was great Stefan, absolutely loved it!

    Your close ups of Uluru were breathtaking, and your music choice added to the drama, you successfully transferred the emotions of the moment to your audience, I could not help to feel the awe of the sight and get emotional, I’m sure it was incredibly emotional for you. Thank you for sharing this blessed place with us!

    When the analog UHF television was turned off in 2014, one of the towns that got a federal government grant to convert to satellite TV was Mintabie. Contractor I worked for went into the place to install about 80 odd satellite dishes for tv in private homes.
    Also, pronounciation from the locals is Mint a-bee.
    Some of the kids at the glorified homeschool there made a song about it, should be up on youtube. Living in Mintabie song.

    I’m only young and I’ve always had a love of flight ever since I remember when ever I hear a plane my heads always to the sky and during things I need to focus on I still find my head looking into the sky and I’m lucky that I have a Dad who takes me to air shows and the airport to watch the airplanes taking off and landing aspiring to be those pilots but as pilot training is expensive my dad says I can’t do it unless I get a job but even then I’m going to need a good job and I’m not that old so a good job is hard to come by so I love watching these videos that make me feel like apart of the cockpit along for the ride and It makes me smile watching these videos and I could only dream for more

      A bit late on this, but the name is out of date. Until a few of decades ago the two features were called Ayres Rock and the Olgas. Then they switched to the traditional aboriginal names of Uluru and Kata Tjuta. It's kind of odd that the OP used the correct term for one, but the out of date version for the other.

      Yeah back in 2000 there were 12 pilots jammed into the 'Whitehouse' as it was known directly opposite the apron. We manually pumped fuel out of 44G drums and if it rained the runway turned into a lake! Loved every moment. I'm a Q400 skipper these days based out of Sydney. Does melbourne centre cover the whole of Australia? It's just a wee bit weird cos where I live, Glasgow, to get from there to london you need to contact glasgow centre, manchester centre then london and then tune to the tower (don't know for sure though my friend is a pilot who does this route regularly i'm not a pilot)
    Also, how come you always do a left turn before landing on final?

    • @CallOfTheSyren
      @CallOfTheSyren 5 лет назад

      No, there is an imaginary line that runs through the middle (roughly) of Australia. South of the line is controlled by Melbourne Centre, and north is controlled by Brisbane Centre. Stefan goes over this in his video at the ATC tower. And the left turn would be the turn from the Base leg of the circuit to the Final leg. A lot of airports use a left circuit pattern.

    Hi Stef. Thank you for the videos, it is inspiring to see documentary of your adventures. So much so I think about doing the same to share my flying adventures. I am based out of Brisbane, completed my ppl only 3 years ago, for the purpose of doing trips just like this. We have a big beautiful country and there is so much to explore. I have already clocked up many cross country trips, the most recent to Birdsville for the Big Red Bash. Can you provide any pointers to good resources in setting up video/audio kit and learning to edit? Aviation specific to I guess?

      Thanks Mark, I've got a video coming out soon on my top learnings from the trip and have a lot of pilot / planning tips in there. I am overdue to do a recording gear video as well, I'll get onto that soon I promise. My setup has changed a fair bit since I made the last video so yeah it would be good to share that with the channel. Coming soon, I promise...!

    For us in our beds here at home a drone would have been better. Please go back and do it again with a drone and go closer. Thanks.

    Does your SR22 have the SatPhone option? I mean, you got accommodation at Broken Hill...

      No SatPhone, the message from my wife who booked the accommodation was received through a regular 4G connection to my phone.

    The people of Mintabie were forced to move out of their town because of government redesignation into APY group indigenous land holdings. Media put the nail in the coffin on the town with reports on crime and drug trade which was also true to a certain extent. Some residents stating that it may have taken 10 hours for police to get to the town since it was so remote and long dirt roads to get to it.
