I just got an ix50 and I gotta say wow. The drive is smooth and comfortable, the built quality is amazing. Driven Tesla b4 and can’t compare them at all.
I had both. The Tesla is superior when it comes to charging network and overall charging experience, it does offer far superior storage capacity and its software is years ahead, both in terms of functionality and ease of use. The BMW has superior built quality and a smoother drive. If I had to pick one, I would pick the Tesla without a doubt.
My 2020 Dual-motor Long Range Model Y has 384 HP and weighs 4400 pounds. (the Performance version has close to 500 HP) A dual-motor Model Y today costs $40,490 including the $7500 Federal rebate. The iX weighs 5657 pounds. The iX M60 in the review costs $111,500 plus a considerable amount for options. The lower spec iX xDrive 50 costs $87,250 plus options (including $1000 if you want air-suspension on all four wheels.
@@bmwblog His Model Y was not an early one; it had the wood trim across the dash that wrapped around the top of the door-model year 2022 or later. 2021 MY cost $58,990. 2022 MY cost $67,440! 2023 MY cost $46,630. His 20" wheels cost $2000 extra. Delivery charge may or may not be included. If MY 2022, with 20" wheels and delivery charge, and if he adds in sales tax, it could be near $75k. In any case, NOW $40,490 for AWD long range.
I'm just sharing what he told me. He said it was $75K, then Tesla gave him a discount because they reduced the price. But that's what he said it was the initial order. Regardless, Tesla prices are so volatile that doesn't really matter. We all know Germans are a lot more expensive
@@bmwblog 2022 prices were really high, as you know, due to the COVID supply chain issues (when people sold their used car for more than they paid new). Tesla pricing varies because they sell direct, and respond to the market. Legacy car makers have their stable MSRP, but what they charge dealers varies a lot, and then what the dealers sell for goes up and down even more, giving big discounts and then charging thousands over sticker for high demand cars. I'm amazed at how many variations BMW sells-so many models, all with different drivetrains offered, and myriad options. No wonder they cost more!
As someone who owns an IX 50 and Model Y there is no comparison the IX is far better built. Even without the air suspension the IX rides better the Harman Kardon stereo is nite and day compared to the Tesla. As the adage goes you get what you pay for. Owned a lyriq briefly and that was a piece of junk in terms of quality but the ride was great
There’s really no viable comparison. The Tesla Model Y is a fine car for those who want a cheaper, efficient vehicle with a superior charging infrastructure. The BMW iX is a luxury brand/model that appeals to people with a more discerning taste and budget. Both get the job done…one is more affordable, the other is more luxurious. We bought the iX because I’m 6’6”, 195 and I fit WAY better in the BMW. We LOVE our BMW. Of course there’s the whole Musk aspect. We’d rather not support his eccentricities.
Bought my iX for the same reasons (luxury) --except I'm short. But definitely was a plus not support the eccentricity machine and to have a vehicle from an established brand.
I don’t suppose you have any info on the iX facelift, in particular the seats? I test drive an iX and it was excellent but the seats were horrible (for me anyway) as had no side support for the legs - I’m really hoping they use say an X5 seat in the facelift!
A long comparison, but you did not mention the specific price of each of these tested models! You use phrases like a bit more expensive, more expensive but you did not give specific numbers. That was important. Thank you and best wishes
I think we listed the price on he screen. The idea is that the price of the model Y changes all the time. It's nearly half now of what he initially ordered it for
I have no doubt BWM is more comfortable between the two. However that does not mean Tesla’s sporty feeling is a bad thing. What about charging, auto drive and app comparison? I am very impressed with Park assist, Summon and FSD on Tesla. Also the reason we choose Tesla is because it looks like Porsche.
BMW is almost double the price++ and can still be outperformed by the Model Y in terms of range and utilization. You can buy a Model Y and keep the change for lifetime beers, I can't see why this wont work for most people. If you don't care on money go for the iX, its an amazing car.
Compared to an iX, Tesla build quality is like something made by Fisher-Price 😃 And playing with a giant iPad for driving functions when driving is just dangerous!
You shouldn't wrap your thumbs around the inside of the wheel ever -- if in an accident and the wheel twists suddenly, it can badly injure your thumbs that way.
What's with that blue christmas tree? (I love my Model Y screen and touch controls) Don't people with screens in front of the wheel ever look at the side mirrors?
I don't think many people cross-shop a 41k car with a 111k car. It would make more sense to compare the BMW with a Model X maybe. Personally, I don't like at all over-engineered and busy controls of BMW. When I sit in the iX, I thought that it is made cheaply with a small low quality screen and odd materials.
So true, the fair comparison should be between model x to the IX..then its easy to see which one clearly the winner when it comes to trendy interior, range, performance, and tech. For that price you pay for ix, you could get model y performance along with supervised fsd... Your car will now all of a sudden drive itself in city, rural roads, alleys, construction zone & hwys with almost zero intervention needed.. It's very very hard for any reasonable person to buy ix over tesla at current price point tbh
@@jh-qb3yb BMW has its customers, the image is the number one reason I believe to buy one, then it is the "luxury" comfort such as massage seats, etc. Similar customers exist for MB. You're clearly not a follower. If you were, you'd know how objectively we cover the news. The name is irrelevant. If we were called XYZ.com, we would cover the BMW brand the same way. And this review is proof. The idea was to really drive two different cars back to back and share findings.
@@bmwblog I listened to the first few minutes and you were leading the conversation to elicit positive answers from the Tesla driver for the BMW. This was aither the plan or you didn't realise you were doing it.
If that's the case, it was simply because he was nervous. So it's easier to lead and ask. But I promise you, no biased went into this. We already knew the iX is the more refined car as far as features and luxury. Hence the high price tag. And I already knew the model Y had better efficiency, better battery tech and arguably easier to use ui/ux. Again, easy to judge but it's not hard to see some of our reviews to see how we criticize BMWS, when warranted. Start with the M5 on track video.
I’ve been driving BMW exclusively for most of my adult life. I wouldn’t drive a Tesla if Elon gave one to me. One of my current X3 leases is up in October and I’m seriously looking at the iX. Good way to get an X5 style and size - X5 does NOT lease well
Ix50 should be compared with X instead of model Y. I owned a Y and it's inferior in fit and finish refinement and ride. It's time for me to move up to others
I think iX should be compared to Model X to make a fair judgement. Model Y is too low in quality and price to match iX. Also you can press that black camera button down and you will see back, left and right so no need to use any mirrors.
@@bmwblog I will respectfully disagree. When 2 year old machines trade down to 60-65% the machine is TOO expensive and offensive to loyal BMW customers
The Model Y is certainly not winning any awards for looks but man, BMW needs to stop beating it's cars with an ugly stick. I was at the dealership last week to get my 325i serviced and saw the new line up. That iX is just .. :shudder:
