Giant Pumpkin Update October 5, 2024 Mom’s Birthday (RIP)

It was a beautiful day weather wise and it was very nice to see all the giant fruit growers gathered in Dundee, Michigan.
I always get to go first ( of the giant pumpkins) because they weigh them smallest to largest. They decide this by measuring each fruit and numbering them in that order. Now it’s an estimate, not certain until it sits on the scale. So a pumpkin could measure really big but now weigh that much when placed on the scale. But mine was by far easily the smallest. But Heaven is my biggest and I took her. It was not an easy trip because we are not trailer people normally. So we made mistakes. But arrived on time and just a little dirty. Some growers drive box trucks to protect the pumpkins and because they are just so big!
At this weigh off a grower in the Upper peninsula earned a couple state records and a world record second place for bushel gourd! 414 pounds by Tom Trombley! Look him up. He had a great day! State record for field pumpkin at 233 pounds!
The largest was won by Glen Hoornstra and his giant pumpkin was 2021 pounds. And it was so very tall and pretty.
The biggest surprise for me was how much Heaven weighed. Last time I measured her she was 488 pounds. So to be over 600 pounds was a shock.
