The two Black relics are gorgeous, demo with them would be fantastic. As for StewMac they make great products, I've used several of their pickups and tools. They distribute other brands as well but their own really stands out.
Would it be possible to get a video at the end of each months where all the intro jams are put into a compilation. As someone who is studying for school or wants background guitar noise, this is would be awesome! (and a way to promote each video more)

I just don't get the relic thing.. If you find an actual old guitar and it is well loved - fine. But buying a new one that looks like it was tossed down a set of stairs 10 times. I just don't get it 🙂
I don't get it either. Relic doesn't make a guitar "vintage". Might just be a trend that will fade away with time. Sucks that it's actually harder to find NOS guitars than relics nowadays in my experience.
For me it's not about looking vintage at all, I just think it looks sick. I also don't want to wait 20 years for my guitar to look like a journeyman relic just for the sake of being authentic.
I got an American Custom Stratocaster like the second one. Same specs. NOS in Ebony Trans. You forgot to mention the compound radius 9.5" to 12" radius!!! Dual Mag II pickups are amazing. If you don't want relic, this is your best modern option from the Custom Shop.
Do you think there would be a noticeable difference with a 30 yr old work guitar. I bought a 93 deluxe plus Strat in 96. Worked it for a few yrs and now I still feel the magic in this guitar. But anymore it feels like a old pair of worn in holey knee jeans. No paint missing but the difference in color finally looks cool to me. Great playing and feeling guitar just never loved the color. Butt ugly yellow (vintage blonde) with tortoise shell pick guard. I never changed anything on this axe but did add the Hipshot Tremsetter to get it to whammy up and down 27 yrs ago. And haven't touched it since. Stays in tune, has a ton of awesome sounds with 3 color L Sensors and TBX tone knob. Not bad for a $750 used guitar no extras at all. I'm the slowest relic guy in the business. 27 yrs on this job and still not done. L O L

The black strat with the African blackwood is rosewood, it's the densist rosewood on the planet (Dalbergia Melonoxia). It's use a lot in woodwind instruments, Oboes and the like. The Gary Moore Strat by the CS had it too, I prefer the look of dark Brazilian rosewood tbh, the ABW just looks pretty much identical to Ebony.
I find relic guitars are very hit and miss for me personally, but black over sunburst usually looks decent enough. I still prefer the idea of getting a new guitar and having every dink, bump, scratch etc all have a story.
Excuse my ignorance, but the first one's headstock looks so much nicer because you can't see the Fender logo is obviously a sticker (in my opinion). I assume the others are like they are because that's how a genuinely aged one would look. Side point: if you do some Squier FSRs can you use the '70s headstock, because the Squier logo looks best on it (and the '70s range of colours has been small).
that journeyman is gold. I love how contrasty the sunburst is, and it has just the right amount of wear to it. Looks as if you just stole one of eric claptons strats lol
Hi Lee, What are your thoughts about these relic guitars in let's say 20 years ? Part of being master built what's your guess about what they will become on the market ? Hunt has already started on 80's Strats & co. What's the place of a 2020's relic one in the future ?
When they took out the NOS sunburst, I thought, that's the one. I don't see a reason to pay all that money for a relic. Then they opened the black over burst master built....
Guess it's a boomer thing but I don't get paying premium money for a relic guitar. I rather own a guitar that earned its hard years of being played, that's where the mojo is for me. Oh, well to each their own. 👍
Not everyone plays in a band, or goes on the road. Some people just like to play in there bedroom or basement. No way for a guitar to achieve that worn-in, relic, aged look of the road. So why not build a guitar that looks and feels like it has been on the road for years? Its a genius idea. It also feels better in the hands and normally sounds better..

I recently purchased a Fender ST-67 Strat Reissue MIJ, built in 1997. The guitar was well played and to me has that mojo. Paid under a grand for it. However, my point is why not buy an actual guitar that earned it's relic looks from years of playing. That seems more authentic to me. I will concede that you take a chance buying used. But it isn't the first time I didn't 'get it'. I'am facinated how tatlented these custom shops are in recreating these the relic look! Thanks for sharing your thoughts. Have a good day.
It's easier to buy something off the shelf in a store if you can find the right guitar. If you go through the process with fender to make your own 'custom shop' the prices start at about £3,500.. 'Masterbuild' starts at about £7000. If you're not an important person it will likely take about 18 months for you to receive your guitar too.

I really hate the relic finish, I don’t get it. I have say it before and will say it again, I love the brand new clean finish in a guitar, and if someone is going to relic the hell out of it, it is going to be me.
Do people who buy these heavily-relic'd guitars worry about dinging them up? Like if I bang my Les Paul into a corner of a wall, I cringe. Do they just bang them about since you'd never know? I have a cheap Tele for that, but these are multi-thousand-dollar guitars.

It was my same reaction when buying a custom shop. I just wish that they also reliced the case .
I like the NOS it actually looks new. The other ones look worn out and in need of refurbishing.

The master built at 4:24 with the black inside case is cool as ice.
Out of all that, the semihollow Jazzmasters (bottom row) are what caught my fancy. I cannot decide if I want the orange burst, or blue burst.
They are not Jazzmasters. They are PJD St John guitars (built in the UK).

It’s aim is to give you the ‘feel’ of A heavily used aged guitar, electric guitars are like fine wines, they do get better with age.

seems there are more "masterbuilders" and "customizers" than ordinary guitar assemblers at fender these days....
There's never any more than about 15 masterbuilts for sale in the country at any one time.

The up charge from "custom shop" to "Masterbuilt" is relatively small, if I was buying one I would definitely stretch to the masterbuilt
