Merry Christmas!! Here is a different take on Mickey’s Christmas Carol. Uncle Scrooge dreads Christmas because every year the Ghosts of Christmas Past, Present, and Future visit him and they tickle him, or worse!! He’s got to find a way out of it so he decides to have Donald Duck be Scrooge McDuck for the day. Things don’t turn out the way Scrooge wants them too though. Instead of his problems, he must now face Donald’s problems and vice versa. How will this end?

Ah! Old Scrooge in his element. Or at least, in the season he was created for. Always a pleasure to voice to old miser.

What an unexpected surprise, a story that's never been translated offically! I never knewout this one, I knew of a Christmas Carol story by Guido Martina, a little golden book, and of course, everybody knows about that record turned theatrical short, "Mickey's Christmas Carol". However this one is certainly a shock to discover, only been reprinted twice too! Never realized France made their own duck comics, I always just sort of assumed that they merely reprinted things.
This reminds me of the DuckTales 2017 episode, of course this is very different, but hey, we're talking about a show that took influence from a never translated story for Della, so since this fan translation is almost as old as the show itself, crazier things could be. I actually prefer how this story goes about it, Scrooge isn't friends with them, they just haunt him every year. It's a really funny twist on the story, and it's nice to see one that's actually set in Duckburg for once, instead of plucking out characters and placing them in Dickens' book.
I knew about Quackmore- Well, more or less. I saw glimpses of him in Italian stories, and didn't think much of the character, I thought his design clashed a bit with the ducks, and that I found it amusing that his American name carried over the odd trend of dogs with malledish names that Duckwroth started over here. Seeing him here with such a important role in Scrooge's life certainly puts the ol' dog-nosed butler into a different perspective for me, the role he plays in being the closest thing Scrooge has to a friend in this story honestly makes me really want to read more stories with the character.
I find it rather interesting that when Quackmore advocates Scrooge actually change his ways, suggests he give his number one dime ro Magica, which certainly threw me for a loop, since every other character has always treated it like that would be the end of the world. I think this is the first tiem I've ever took a moment to realize that her becoming rich really wouldn't make much of a difference in the world, it certainly wouldn't cause Scrooge to go broke, despite what he assumes. Makes e realize how pointless their rivalry really is, but of course, I'm glad it is. Much of what makes Scrooge's stories so funny is that, just like Donald, he's his worse enemy, every problem he deals with is one of his own creation. Any story that reminds me that Scrogoe is only a poor old man is a nice one.
I love that little effect you did at 6:40 , he really did sound like he was far away.
I like the set up for this story, there's something down to Earth about the way it's set up, and how Donald reacts to the deal. It's a nice detail how Scrooge cuts off Donald, only for the same trick to applied to him during his time in his nephew's shoes.
It's interesting to note that Donald is able to swim in Scrooge's money. As well all know, diving into the cubic acres of hard pennies is a bad idea, as Scrooge is one of the only people who has mastered the art of money diving, meaning Donald has either practiced it in private, or inherited it from the McDuck side of the family.. Either that or the writer forgot.
Maybe I'm seeing things where they aren't, I wonder if Tapdur and Tapfor was meant to be twisted versions of the Collectors For The Poor who visit Scrooge's office at the beginning of A Christmas Carol. That "jack asset collector" gag was a funny one, and one that sadly isn't going to be included if this ever does get an offical translation, then again, maybe its just something the fanslator made up, in which case I'd be fine with it not being included. Honestly I glad this came out as well as it did, apart from the fact that secondhandscanlations is clearly not a professional letterer (Yeesh some of those word placements) I like that he did what seems to me like a very direct tranlsation.
The one thing I can't stand about fantagraphics' otherwise flawless releases is that for some unknown reason they'll occasionally shove him some ill fitting pop culture reference, sometimes even to things that didn't exist when the story was written (Kingdom Hearts for instance.) Seeing modern lingo like "Fam", or "What the what!?", and references to old episodes of Jetsons/Quick Draw McGrew gets annoying real quick, it's nice to see a timeless story that allowed to have timeless dialogue. To be honest, I don't really know if this story will ever get translated, since it depicts both Scrooge and Donalding getting beaten and assulted, it seems like something Disney make take offense to, or not. Censors always seem to change their mind on what is and isn't allowed, so maybe it could get realeased, but it'd have to be while said Censor is having one of their good days.
I will say, this story has a great ending, it's classic Scrooge. A more simple ending would just be Scrooge or Quackmore emptying it, but the way it's shown here has a lot more character, and puts the fault on Scrooge himself. Donald solved all his problems, if Scrooge had took Quackmore's advice and bought a new vacuum he'd be home free, but it's Scrooge's greed that does him in, every time. This is a fun little story.
The only 'trouble' (More like 'nitpick') I have with this story is that it feels like on top of being screwball comedy, it could have also had some genuine character growth for Scrogoe seeing how Donald lives, I really did expect Scrooge to pay Don's rent (But just for this once! I'm not dumb enough to think Scrooge could ever change for good.) It may have been swell irony if by trying to skip out on the guilt trip about changing his ways, Scrooge was ended up doing so anyway, not by being scared by spooks, but by having a teensy little dose of reality blown in his direction. Then again, we already have a bunch of Christmas stories about Scrooge 'learning his lession', so maybe a farce is the change of pace we really needed.

What a nice comment. I accidently came across this one when looking for a Christmas comic to dub. Secondhandscanlation has a few to browse through. When I upscaled the image it messed up the lettering a bit. I thought about rewriting them all but it would have taken a long time. There are a few lines that I did rewrite that are much clearer. Be sure to watch it in HD.
TBH I was glad Scrooge got it at the end.🤣
      Poor Donald.
Oh yah, seems like I have seen in the past where no one but scrooge could swim in his money so i was bit surprised myself.

Bare in mind, this comic wasn’t written in English. The F on the bin likely is for whatever Scrooge’s name is in that language. Or perhaps the symbol for that country’s money.

@@TheDonaldDuckProject I was serious he has been convinced to do similar stuff in comics, movies and TV shows. Also usually I like scrooge but in this comic he made me want to strangle him, Donald did what he asked and more by catching those ghosts but scrooge just left him there and didn't even try to see if those debit collectors really worked for him, also I think the fist guy scrooge met while pretending to be Donald was a conman and Donald didn't really own hi money.
