      It's better than most houses for multimillions right now. It's just one of several options that have all gotten extremely expensive now that we have no lower income homes or lower middle class available.
      I'm stuck renting a two bedroom and I was LUCKY. But we can't even afford to move out or find another two bedroom without doubling rent cost. And with our types of jobs we can't even leave the area. 😢

      We bought our house four years ago for $248 and that was 1800 sq ft with 800 sq ft of unfinished space upstairs and 1.5 acres of land. Now it would be at least a half million for the same thing.

      Exactly. Houseboats are a great idea but only if your moorage costs are low. They rarely are. People really like living on the water though. Very peaceful. Keep in mind sound carries very well over water so if anyone is noisy around you, watch out.

      NYC, LA, and the San Francisco Bay Area is having the same issue. You’re lucky you’re in Appalachia. I’ve got family in San Francisco and the rent is ridiculous. My cousin makes $100,000 a year and can barely afford her apartment.

    This is happening more and more in Ontario’s cottage country area. Waterways are federally regulated not provincially or municipally. People are going up to lakes and bays and having these house boats built and living on them. A lot of cottage and permanent house dwellers are complaining these house boats are unsightly because the owners dock them anywhere they want

      It is actually not that cold in the winter in the lower mainland of BC. It rains a lot but not a lot of freezing temperatures. It might snow once or twice a year. It is actually getting noticeably warmer.

    I love it, this is actually what I'm planning on doing. That seems a bit much for the price tbh, it scares me a little. My home was valued at $600,000. Not much in today's standard but I was hoping to get a trailer, or modular home on a nice lake and just work part time and live my days out the best I can ❤

      Can you afford about 3k a month in maintenance and dock fees? Can you afford the $250-500 a month of insurance for the boat?
      Seems like a dream, but the grass is always greener... thinking about it more critically.

    Reading through some of the comments are kind of humorous, out on the Lower Mainland it is basically like London England it never dips that cold that you can't make it through for the few days of cold and yes 340 K is really expensive and unaffordable to most, but that is just the purchase the home then you have about a 1500 to $5,000 a month rental for your spot to be able to put your home so ridiculously unaffordable

    I stayed on a houseboat in Amsterdam a few years ago. Best, most memorable stay ever. Waking up to the sound of waves lapping against the boat and sipping espresso on the deck alongside a family of ducks... Just pure bliss.

    I know of really pretty houses on the water on Vancouver island in Victoria BC. Hers looks much smaller. Not sure if its where she lives though. But if in victoria, its such a nice place to visit

    Wife and I are deciding between a houseboat or A class RV. Houseboats are way more spacious but limited to where we can dock, where A class can be driven anywhere but limited space generally. Not for full term living but short term 3 to 4 month tours

    I bought an old $4500 sailboat when I was in university, and I live on that in Canada. Its great. A lot less space, but a lot more adventurous.

      I live in Nova Scotia and we don't even get snow for Christmas. I shoveled once last year and we had more rain than snow. The grass was green all Winter. Canada is huge and has many climates. The weather isn't the same as when I was a kid and had to wear a snowsuit for Halloween because it was so cold.

      ​​​@@kessiawright1710 Nova Scotia definitely has bad winters. Cape Breton was hit with 5 feet of snow in February. There is at least one bad snowstorm each year. Even southern Ontario has bad winters. I think Canidans definition of bad snow is just skewed.

    I'm a Canadian and I just bought 4 bed three bath house with a huge garage and garden on 2 acres of land for 350k
    I have no idea who would be crazy enough to spend that much money on a houseboat when upkeep to keep the houseboat floating is so expensive.
