    You mounted it in the best place, out of the mud and water.

    Brilliant video. I have a Kodiak 700 and you have provided some great tips for when I get a winch.

    Thanks for the great ideal to relocate the solenoid underneath the speedometer it worked out perfect for me thank you. Out of the water there.

    If you have the ability to shorten the wires and put new ends on them, that would make for a cleaner install. I have not done this yet since I'm not sure I'll keep the wires routed this way for the long term.

      I went with the KFI 2500 lb winch. They gave me short wires for the contactor to the battery and long from the winch to the contactor. I swapped the wires and still had to cut them almost in half to not have 2 ft extra. Made it much cleaner.

    I have a 2007 grizzly and they mounted the solenoid behind the winch now I’m having to replace it and relocate it to the top out or the elements. Great place under the hood

      Thanks for commenting! Sorry you're having those issues.

      The mounting location is not the reason you had to replace it. The contactors wear out over time. They can be completely submerged in salt water for life. It won't affect their longevity.

    I mounted mine underneath and towards the front of the gear shifter, it's an isolated spot out of the weather and out of my way, by far the best spot I could find. I have an older model Grizzly so I have no idea if its the same on the Kodiak. Thanks for the great video!

    I made my own winch mounting plate for my Yamaha grizzly seven Holland

    First of all, you did it right the first time. The contactor should have just been mounted on the back of the winch plate. Mine was on my Kodiak for 5 years that way through Canadian winters. Lots of river crossings. Mud everything. It will not hurt it. They are watertight connection and contact her is sealed and the components are conformal coated for waterproofing. Anyway. The way you went about it was pointless running all that wire. You should have trimmed the wire to length. That would have saved a lot of hassle. Also, you did not need to remove the front rack whatsoever. The hood pops right out without it being removed. You still have ample room to work around the battery.

      This is the comment I was hoping for. Just installed mine put the contactor on the back of the winch plate before I saw that he moved his. Made me rethink my decision and would've been annoying work to undo.

    Which wire did you mount the red wire to the switch to? The black or brown?

    What are the grips you have?

    How did you get the solenoid on the back of the mounting plate? (I know it sucks, but options are options)

    • @jasonmorehouse3756
      @jasonmorehouse3756 Год назад

      It doesn't suck. That's the proper place to mount it. It's designed to go there. On the KFI plate, you'll either have to drill a couple holes or make a mounting bracket. If you're using a Warn plate, it already has holes provided that fit almost every contactor.

      Doing great. We've actually had several superwinch products on various vehicles. All have been abused and held up so far!

    How much of a price difference between this winch and the one from Yamaha? I’m curious as to why you chose this winch.

    • @TrailPass
      @TrailPass  2 года назад +1

      The price difference was roughly $100 if I remember correctly. There is nothing special about the yamaha winch, it's just a WARN 2500 with a different sticker. I was not a big fan of the warn plate. I found this winch that is still a good brand and larger capacity for a cheaper price. Either one is a good choice.

      @@TrailPass thank you for the reply. I have been researching quads for a while and have been going back and forth between the Kodiak EPS SE and the Kodiak EPS. The only differences between the two models seems to be that the ES offers a different color option and comes with a winch for an additional $1,000. I’m pretty handy when it comes to diy projects and after seeing your video i know i can install my own winch. All that being said, your video has helped me in my decision to go for the Kodiak 700 EPS.

    It's 2022. It's an ATV. Absolutely asinine there is not a kit from yamaha that is a bolt-in solenoid bracket/wiring kit. $100. I'd buy it.

    • @jasonmorehouse3756
      @jasonmorehouse3756 Год назад +2

      There is a bolton kit. When you get the Warren winch from Yamaha you get the Warren mounting bracket and the contactor mounts right to the rear of it. Where is supposed to go. Zero issues. Mine was on my Kodiak since 2018 and it's never had an issue
