M10 Booker: Anytime, Anywhere

- General Dynamics Land Systems won the Army’s Mobile Protected Firepower competition in 2022 and will deliver the combat vehicle recently named the M10 Booker. The Booker has commonality with the Abrams SEPv3 turret systems and is designed with larger-caliber main gun growth capability to provide protected firepower and unmatched lethality to Infantry Brigade Combat Teams (IBCTs). The Booker features add-on armor panels and under-vehicle IED protection, plus proven ammunition compartmentalization for crew safety. Its high power-to-weight ratio and hydro-pneumatic suspension provide outstanding speed and cross-country maneuverability. The Booker is built to meet all transport mode specifications and is recoverable with organic IBCT assets.

Yeah, BUT i think the Booker name is great. Honoring TWO Medal of Honor recipients... one of which served in the Infamous "Thunder Run" into Baghdad in '03.
That man climbed out of his tank and engaged Iraqi targets on top of his vehicle with his M4 as they blitzed down the highway. (A company, 1st Battalion, 64th Armored Regiment)

Wolverine was not the official name of the vehicle, the M10 GMC never got one officially, along with the M36.
The official designation would also need to be that of an American General/Hero in this case for traditions sake.
Very happy that the US is back to putting more stress on divisional combat and reinforcing divisions, as well as returning the lighter tank concept, without compromising firepower. Much love and respect (thanks for your service) from your humble NATO ally - Bulgaria

In what sense? Like the stryker would be a good addition and it was not? 105mm is outdated by everysense. US should just buy CV90120 which is a platform that is well tested but the US likes to waste money on useless and expensive equipment.
@@anton2417 the 105mm Main Gun is deadly enough to destroy a T-72, do I need mention that Israeli tankers literally used a 105mm Main Gun of an American M-60 Patton to destroy a Soviet T-72, do I need to say more and also this 105mm Main Gun is a Rifles Cannon (M35) is which is still deadly to Legacy Soviet Era tanks like the T-72, T-80 and T-90 and even older tanks from the Soviet Union
@@aarontactical a 105mm can not pen any modern russian tanks this cannon isnt new nor does it benefit of having a rifled barrel since that is literally pointless when you have apfsds, heat or atgms. But I guess the only way you would use this is with hesh or he since the cannon is useless for everything else. US should just buy cv90120. Most modular tank design, and miles ahead of Bradley as an ifv.
@@anton2417I was talking about the 105mm rifled main gun being able to destroy Legacy Soviet Era tanks like the T-72, T-80 and T-90, its still literally capable of at least destroying a obsolete Tank like the Legacy Soviet systems
@@aarontactical so you're designing a brand new tank that cant destroy modern russian tanks, I would expect nothing less from the us gouvernment. They retired the stryker with just 20 years of service to waste more money on something that sure isnt much better. I would have looked into the CV90. Very versatile platorm that has models for every use. They could have literally bought cv90120 to replace stryker and cv9030 or 35 to replace Bradley.
Former 19K here. I would bet these will be used by the 19D Scouts as well like the accursed MGS was for a time. I see immense promise in this system and have done extensive study on the info released thus far.
It's refreshing to see a design that simply aims to find a certain balance without requiring immense industrial R&D.
This will require a lot less maintenance than the MGS.
From what i saw all m10 bookers are gonna be crewed by 19k and theyre considering making a new MOS for bradley/stryker crewman instead of being crewed by infantry.
I think it's gonna be 19Ks, but I think the army is also going to stop having soldiers constantly switch between light, stryker, and mechanized units - a tanker who crews an M10 probably won't spend much time in an M1, since the doctrine for the two vehicles is different.
Same here, former 19k. I'm all about new armor, but man I can't help but think this just looks like a new version of an m1. I'm not saying it doesn't have new stuff cuz I'm not familiar with it but it just kind of looks like a repeat. It's the same 105 mm gun same coax, track system looks the same as well. What I mean if it's a better version of the old M1 that's great but National Guard Armories are full of m1's, M1A1s, m1a2s, yeah just saying

Glad light(er) tanks are back in fashion
Not only is it a great vehicle, the music for this thing is amazing.
It weighs only 7 tons less than the most modern Russian tank, the T-90M, which is believed to be able to withstand up 800mm of APFSDS penetration.
This thing survives maybe 30mm.
Also, T-90 has a more powerful gun and lower profile. (lol)
@@0thPAg The T-90M is not something very comparable with an assault gun. An MBT requires a lot of armor, heavy firepower, high firepower, and big mobility. The T90M is that, and to be used in multiple purposes. The M10 is *not* that. It's an assault gun, meant to be air-droppable and rapid response for airborne units like the 82nd. And especially used to assist infantry in assaults by destroying fortifications and other infantry, while providing some protection, good firepower, and range.
The M10 is not an MBT. The T-90M is.
@@isaacfriedlandercohen4940
... if it has none of the features of a T90, why is it barely lighter?
Because of it's size, survivability, probable decent armor, and high power engine. I also never said it doesn't have the features of a T-90, I just said isn't an MBT. You can't expect it to have the same capabilities as one. Anyways, the T-90 is much smaller, but still requires the high caliber and high armor required of an MBT, which is probably why it gets it weight. If it was the same size as a Booker, or even an Abrams, it would weigh much more.
@@isaacfriedlandercohen4940 Booker doesn't have decent armor, it's APC tier.
It can't possibly have decent armor because it's too large.
It's a turkey. It's a concept as stupid as MBT powered by batteries.

Dismissing the entire potential of a tank due to the mistakes of a few operators is unjustifiable. Let's not overlook the fact that it's the operator, not the vehicle, that determines its effectiveness on the battlefield in the Ukraine War for example.

I don't get the purpose of this vehicle. Can someone explain to mewhat sort of circumstances this vehicle would excel in over an AFV or MBT?
Just curious if there’s a reason why the smoke launchers were mounted on the turret instead of just underneath the lip of the turret? Wouldn’t it be a bit cleaner looking and also give room to install a potential trophy system additive?
Just curious - thanks
They need to face up and out, so putting them on the underside of the lip would just make it need struts to put the launchers out far enough to point up, potentially giving even less room for other systems. Unless you mean to mount it on the top hull, which would mean that a smoke or two may get shot out, bounce off the barrel, and land on the vehicle

Hello I'd like to have one delivered to me, how long will that take?
Excellent job on the video, and obviously the design and fabrication of the machine.
Where do I get one of these again?
This tank was selected by the US Army over the competing M8 Buford light tank, even though the M10 Booker has identical weapons, has less protection, costs and weighs 3 times as much, can't be airdropped, and can't be airlifted in a C-130 Hercules.
The M10 Booker also weighs the same as China's Type 96 Main Battle Tank, yet has the armor of an APC.
This tank is peak Post-Kabul Pentagon.
Finally, someone pointed it out! Sergeant York 2.0 here we come!
@@tablesizeproductions4360 That anyone can promote the M10 Booker with a straight face is baffling; you can see how worthless it is just by comparing it's most basic stats to those of any other tank.
However, consider Argentina's TAM Medium Tank, which --- like the M210 Booker --- was derived from an IFV (in this case the VCTP, which is effectively a clone of the Marder 1). Both use 105mm main guns proofed to fire exactly the same ammunition, but the TAM has thicker and stronger armor while weighing 33 short tons, compared to 45 for the M10 Booker. The TAM also costs several times less, even after later modernizations that brought it's electronics to a much closer parity with the M10.
More importantly, the TAM was developed in the 1970s, and over 40 years later, GDLS and the Pentagon STILL can't do anything right.
So then what was the reason they chose the M10 over the M8?
@@Trainboy1EJR The real reason is what the Pentagon rationalizes it as "preservation of the industrial base", but is actually just cutting favors for sweetheart manufacturers that no longer have the competence to be competitive.
An infamous example was the AMSA program (later re-dubbed the B-1 program) in the late 1960s, in which the Rockwell proposal was declared the winner. The USAF later admitted that the Boeing proposal was both cheaper and better performing, but they chose the Rockwell B-1 for "preservation of the industrial base", because Boeing (fresh from B-52 production and with tons of missile programs, in addition to a range of successful civilian airliners) was thriving and healthy, while Rockwell (with no ongoing aircraft programs other than the last orders for the CV-10 Bronco and C-123 Provider) was circling the drain. It was all for naught; the 240 authorized Mach 2.4 B-1As devolved into 100 Mach 1.3 B-1Bs (the rest of the B-1 fiasco is a whole other can of worms), after which Rockwell was never able to sell anyone on any other aircraft designs, and ended up merging with Boeing anyway.
At present, look at US armored vehicle production, and it's instantly obvious that the M1 Booker was a GDLS bailout. The M1 Abrams is in trouble, as the last new-build chassis' were constructed in the 1990s, ending the possibility of more units being built (other than 77 M1A2s, all other M1A2s built for the US Army were converted from M1s and IPM1s built before 1984!), the US Army getting rid of all of it's M1A1s, and the USMC quitting the tank business altogether. GDLS also had the Stryker, but that ship has sailed. The Army has abandoned several Stryker variants altogether (including the once-celebrated M1128 Stryker MGS, which were all purged from the inventory a couple years ago), new-build sales to them are winding-down, the USMC won't touch it with a 10-foot pole, and the US State Department has been struggling for decades to find export customers.
Meanwhile, BAE Systems uis raking-in the dough, winning the AMPV Competition aimed at producing a replacement for the M113, upgrading the M109A6 Paladin into the M109A7 Paladin PIM, new major orders for M777 howitzers all over the world, and winning the ACV competition meant to furnish the USC with a replacement for the LAV 8x8 armored vehicles, just to name a few.
That the M8 Buford is the correct choice for the US Army has been self-evident since the 1990s, but BAe (who now owns rights to it, having absorbed UDLP) keeps winning and winning and winning, while GDLS keeps losing and losing and losing. Without selling the M10 Booker to the US Army, GDLS would be at risk of having to fold their US branch.

All well and good on the looks. How well will it take a hit in today’s battlefield? Glad they got with the program and put the power pack up front. That was long overdue. After watching RPG's take out a Leopard 2 by hitting the engine and fuel, I got to ask if this thing will do the same? I would love for the designers and builders to have live in one of these for three or four weeks as well as take a hit or two......just like the real soldiers will have to do.
I remember back in the late 80’s they were trying to sell the Army a Recon tank that had to put extra armor on the inside if it went to war. It couldn’t take a hit of any kind. If the auto loader went out, you had to get outside to load it. When we asked the company rep about these issues, he got flustered and walked away.
