Honestly I did not think many people did 3D anymore. It has always sucked at home. When was the last time a movie came out in 3D?
Rumor is these new units have Plex, Emby, and Jellyfin apps built and supported by Zidoo. Also, the music player v8 is supposed to be much improved over v7.
Check the Zidoo forums. There's been versions of those apps that work on older Zidoo players but nothing officially supported by the manufacturer themselves. I've been a Plex user for 16yrs and while its great for TV's and sharing, the picture and video quality of Zidoo player in my dedicated cinema room night/day difference over what Plex can produce. Also Plex doesn't support ISO for BD menu's. The Realtek chipset in the older Zidoo players also support 3D, even though it's mostly a dead format at this point.

There is still stock for the cheaper Zidoo Z9X 8K. Video playback is exactly the same as has same SoC and interface. Main difference is that it has no HDD slots.
Great products overall, I wish I had one but their licensing problems is a dealbreaker for me because I’m. not into building an entire home lab to stream and play the latest and greatest. More useful apps and licenses and will be truly the king.
As a fellow JVC NZ (NZ9) owner, I'm interested in upgrading from my Z2000 to this. The only road block to 8K usage for me and many owners is the use of a Lumagen video processor that simply can't pass 8K. Would be really interesting for someone to properly compare the 8K upscaling and AI processing to JVC 8K E-shift.
Спасибо за ролик! Почему на 8000 не имеется функции Screen ratio как на Neo Alpha? Очень удобно на экране 2.35. Как вы думаете, могут это добавить с обновлением?
I have an 8K60 playback device so I would like to know if this one actually supports 8K plus HDR. I have another device that claims to support 8K but once it reaches 8K, it will only play 8K SDR. HDR is only supported up to 4K. My display will play 8K HDR on RUclips using the built-in app so I would be interested in knowing if this one plays it also in 8KHDR?
Is there a setting for the prioritization of the audio output, based on the content? Like it is automatically using the analogue XLR for audio only (stereo music files) and HDMI multichannel output for movies? Or is it at least possible to switch the output manually, via the remote from XLR to HDMI with a single press of a button? That would be very convenient for the use of profiles with my Logitech Harmony Elite.
No streaming apps? Such a bummer. I was hoping for a higher quality hardware than my ATV to listen to Apple Music and to watch movies via Netflix, Hulu, Prime, and Plex. Also how do we buy this in the U.S.? I clicked on all the links under Shop and I don't see it.

Great to see one of these get reviewed! Considering upgrading from my UHD3000 for double ram, new chipset, 4K UI and AI upscaling features. Curious how picture quality stacks up against Kaleidescape media player.
I think that really depends on the source media. Kaleidescape is the best you can get as a consumer. UHD is usually identical to K although there are some exceptions. So if you’re ripping UHD’s uncompressed than it should be the same although no where near as convenient, which is why I chose Kaleidescape for my movie needs.

@@neeko18 actually you don’t have to install updates. They’re just to make things more secure when you’re connected to the internet, but then again, who knows your pc exists and you only more likely to get a virus with sites that have viruses. It aways works out cheaper to build your own, than buying a player, like the Panasonic DP-UB9000. I’ve also built my own and a server too.
After over a decade of building and setting up HTPC's (with MadVR, MPC-BE, Kodi, etc), these current day media boxes just bring a level of simplicity that's still not there with HTPCs. The ability to play a large variety of files with so little fuss in your home theater or living room setup is really appealing. I literally don't use my HTPC in two of my theater setups for video any more, just really running EZBEQ for my subs and doing software updates for my video processors. I can also much more easily integrate these media boxes into an A/V system for easy access and control by anyone who wants to use the system. For me having Zidoos and Apple TV's, covers everything I want between file playback from NAS to Streaming services.
The most important part of this video is showing how to get the movies on there? Can you purchase them? Do you hook up an external drive to this? How do you put hard drives in them? Storage Capacity? I have watched so many videos over the years and this product still seems like it doesn't really do anything??? I have had Kaleidescapes and getting movies on it was super easy. If this is just some chinese pirating thing, then I will give it a hard pass.
For local media playback, impossible to beat the Ugoos AM6B+ with CoreELEC right now. Full dual-layer TV-led DV, plus all other HDR formats. HD audio of course, and of late full 3D MVC! Only thing it can't do is AV1 playback.

I bought one of these. The software / firmware is HORRIBLE (just go look at the forums and all the issues literally everyone is having). This product is NOT ready for public release as of late Sept 2024. Mine repeatedly crashes and is unusable for many of the features it's sold as having. At this point, save yourself the money and headache and buy something else.
No 3D makes this a brick to many home theater enthusiasts... For me I will never buy home theater players with an incomplete featureset. A PC connected to my TV can play every format under the sun, *including* full-res frame-packed 3D, so I'm not sure why someone would pay extra for this.
What GPU are you using in your PC that does 3D, and what display? My TV is a Panasonic plasma from 2010. I don't know what I'm going to do for 3D if it dies. But I want to build a quality PC that can do 3D anyway
I love 3D as a projector owner and I have had no problems playing 3D ISO back on my Z2000. This is mainly only if I haven't got a disc copy of something and last check literally less than a handful of titles. It definitely sucks that the 8000 no longer supports 3D, but definitely far from a deal breaker. I know if I got desparate to play something back I could easy plug in my spare Z9X and use that.

@@richardkUK8764 that's not being lazy. Some folks don't want to bother ripping their movies. It's a legit hassle and every movie doesn't always rip. I for one hate doing it while others don't mind. Depends on your needs.
Am I the only one who gets the BS behind the "8K" marketing ploy? I mean, "8K UHD"? Isn't that a contradiction in terms?? UHD is by definition less resolution than full 4K, so therefore true 8K is way WAY beyond UHD..... Theoretically 8K is possible down the road but first streaming needs to get to full 4K before they can even think about 8K.
And by extension I am also putting 8K displays on notice. Sure they are future proof...theoretically. But....there is nothing in streaming or physical Media that can play in 8K let alone full 4k. If you have a camera that can record in 8K and can connect it directly to your 8K TV this is the only way one can actually watch anything in 8K for now

They lied about the PS5 being able to output 8K as well. Should have bought a Samsung.
Zidoo didn't actually "get rid of 3d support" the new chips that are being used do not support it like the older video chips did.
What are you saying?😂. Doesn't make any sense
Give me a smooth plex UI and im sold
Does anyone know if you can connect a Nas to this as well to watch movies ?
Yes
Hi Shane have you tried the Sony Theatre Quad? I'd be interested to hear your thoughts and how it compares with a traditional hone theatre.
Soon
Good review, but a minipc at the same price kills this product 🤷
No it doesn’t.
I was thinking the same thing. Maybe an i5 in a SilverStone ML09?
No 3D 😢
When I saw all the Chinese letters and the product is made by a Chinese company. Def it is a NO GO even if its free. Kaleidascape all day everyday.
Many electronics are made in China. Kaleidascape is much more expensive. This is a cheaper way to watch full quality 4ks.
Hey Shane, you mentioned streaming content. Can you use this device as an all-around streamer in additional to playback of local content?
This is not designed to be a streaming device.
Can you confirm if this new box can download Portuguese subtitles? i have the zidoo z9x and z9x pro and since last year even with the latest beta firmware you cant download portuguese subtitles, english subtitles work fine through, zidoo are great boxes but very disappointing firmware support
One thing I don't understand is the upside down display. Why?
@@JulioCSolar Unquality Control
How about vs old guy nvidia shield tv pro
CAN you play 8k upscale movie on 4k projector ?
That's like putting 2 gallons of milk in a 1 gallon bottle.
@@therealshaneleeyes but we can play 12 bits video on 10bits projector. Maybe can did the same and get a better image quality
Hi Shane, is the menu navigation muh much faster? IT looks lightning quick compared to the old Zidoos but wnated to verify.
It's a little quicker.
Shane .. how is the fan noise ?
The room it’s in is always 55 degrees so it’s barely audible.
Is the library you walked through all 4K Blu-ray rips?
I did have fight club in the demo.
This user interface are update in same as UHD5000
Can anyone confirm whether you can access internal drives from windows?
Yes you can.
But how do I get my 4k collection digitized and onto a hard drive??
I think you need a 4K drive in conjunction with ripping software , i.e makemkv, then transfer them from your p.c to the zidoo (zidoos sata drive)
There’s an uploader on RUclips called, “2guyztech” they have a few videos on it 👍
MakeMKV and DVDFab are commonly used for media backup.
Sorry bud! I left some basic instructions/ advice but my comment got deleted 🤷♂️
I have a supervisor server running unraid with 13 drives handling all my media needs. Ripping blurays is pretty quick now with a medium spec PC
MakeMKV
I don't understand why this is any better than a 300 dollar computer. With my computer I can play back Blu rays In Dolby Atmos, I can play back SACD's in their original DSD format. I have one main coumputer and 2 small 250 dollar computers networked together. I have everything stored on a hardrive . I've converted DVDA's to 5.1 and 7.1 flac files. There are no limitations to what formats I can play back.
Even a SFF doesn't have this design plus a PC needs updates
@@neeko18 Updates can be a good thing. It beats becoming obsolete as improvements are made.
Same. Media PC boxes were a thing. But then people kind of forgot them.
These contents are frm downloads!?!
What’s the point of 3D when no tvs support anymore (unfortunately)
Projectors support it.
Your thumb nail have a x over the r_volution 8k player.
That player is leagues ahead of this so why the thumb nail saying no?
No it isn't. I have both.
@ the video player looks so much better as well
As the menu system ?
This is a user guide, NOT a review👎
Do you know how to read?
+30% in term of price, no 3D, no real improvement, a shame.
How does this differ Vs Nvidia shield ?
That was my only question. Looks like more codec support and maybe higher upscale is the main factor.
Lol shield is over rated , its only good for streaming apps i have 2 of them you just cant compare with zidoo media boxes , its jud different the shield is so old that theres no updates snd the price for one is lile $200 bucks thered deff better media local players out there , for the price id buy a zidoo which i hsve ss well and to me it blows shield out of the water night and day
@@richardpereira8942 so this will stream my plex movies better and stream tidal music at high quality ?
I bought one of these. The software / firmware is HORRIBLE (just go look at the forums and all the issues literally everyone is having). This product is NOT ready for public release as of late Sept 2024. Mine repeatedly crashes and is unusable for many of the features it's sold as having.
At this point, save yourself the money and headache and buy something else.
NO issues with mine whatsoever. I use it daily.
@@therealshanelee Same. And I tried all three. Z9X 8K, Z3000, and now the UHD8000. Zero issues!
No 3D makes this a brick to many home theater enthusiasts... For me I will never buy home theater players with an incomplete featureset. A PC connected to my TV can play every format under the sun, *including* full-res frame-packed 3D, so I'm not sure why someone would pay extra for this.
What program plays framepacked 3D?
Wow! Sending a defective demo unit with an upside down screen for review. How embarassing and very unreassuring. Not talking for myself since I own the UHD5000 and I love it. Oh, amd my 5000 does 3D very well.
Why would anyone buy a K Scape when this exists.
Or even, build your own.
Well there's Zero work to get movies on Kscape for one. And that's a big ask for a whole lot of folks.
@@therealshanelee That’s being lazy, haha. Come on I’ve seen you build things on here. That’s the fun of it all. It’s just way too expensive for what it is. But if you have the money and your old, then perhaps yes. I guess that you’re paying for the other things, like it coming out earlier than it does on disc or at the cinema, un-cut versions, etc, etc.
@@richardkUK8764 that's not being lazy. Some folks don't want to bother ripping their movies. It's a legit hassle and every movie doesn't always rip. I for one hate doing it while others don't mind. Depends on your needs.
@@therealshanelee Yes I guess so, I have a few I can’t get to rip. But it doesn’t hurt just to play it from the disc, when you can’t rip it.

What makes you think that?
ESS9069Q DAC, supports decoding DSD512/PCM768KHz 32Bit.
Let's say this is it best box ever but with the price tag nobody going to buy this
Lol. You can't buy it. Is this an AI of a future player? 😂
I am NOT saying this isn't a great player but please stop with the 8K BS
And by extension I am also putting 8K displays on notice. Sure they are future proof...theoretically. But....there is nothing in streaming or physical Media that can play in 8K let alone full 4k. If you have a camera that can record in 8K and can connect it directly to your 8K TV this is the only way one can actually watch anything in 8K for now
There’s no such thing as Future Proof with electronics!!!
PLEX??
