"That's so nice! He didn't kill his family with a shovel!!!"
Best line this year.
Husband needs to give himself more credit. He’s actually quite hilarious
Ahem... I believe it's "Hubbin"
Yes & I agree with 'Hubbin', Home Alone beats Hocus Pocus any day. :)
Yeah he is, his facial expressions when she said stuff had me dying.
It's traditional for a comedy duo to have a straight man and a wise guy after all.
He does a great deadpan, like Airplane.
The TSA didn't exist when this was made. The airport and airline employees did all the checks and stuff. The service was so much better then.
yeah this is a 90's movie and the Airport shows it more than anything IMO
It's also why when I watch Home Alone 2: Lost in New York, a certain scene leaves me crying now every time. :(
I've gotta be the last generation to remember walking family members all the way to the gate to wave them goodbye.
Back 94 I had a Military airline ticket and was able to switch flights and airlines leaving O'hare about 5 hours earlier. That flight I got was leaving in 15 minutes. I sprinted across the airport, made it through security and made the flight and so did my bag.
I don't what, if anything, the benefit of TSA is, but it isn't worth it.
When Catherine O'Hara is on the phone in the first few minutes of the movie, she said "We brought the dog to the kennel", so they do have a dog. It's just so easy to miss the line because the beginning of the movie is so chaotic. And I read in an interview that the mother is a supposed to be a clothing designer, which explains why they have so many mannequins in the home. Also.... love the kitty!
It's such a pointless line I wonder if it was to set something up for later like how they show all the manicans in the basement that he uses later to fake a party
And the doggy door scene where Marv sticks his head through, can't have a doggy door with no dog
What about the hangman's nooses that are next to the mannequin? Also the dog is never mentioned in the second movie.
@SBaby the second movie doesn't take place at home so there is no setting up needed for a doggie door and such.
I always feel sorry for Macaulay Culkin. His parents were so awful. Apparently, the crew on Home Alone all tried to protect him from his own parents.
He was constantly working at young age, he was the breadwinner of the family and that’s way too much pressure to put on a child. Then people wonder why he had drug addiction issues
Kit Culkin, his dad and manager (and Bonnie Bedelia’s [Holly Gennero McClane] brother, btw), was horrendous. He helped to ruin his son’s career in the mid-90s when Macaulay was booked to present the best short films awards at the Oscars. About a week before Oscar night, Kit called the producers and demanded more money above the going rate for the presenters. The producers told him to f-ck off and called Elijah Wood’s mom/manager. He came in, nailed the line delivery, and the two of them impressed the hell out of the producers, who were big names in Hollywood. He already had a reputation as a good child actor, but after that awards ceremony, he became known as extremely professional, too. That was about the time Macaulay’s career started its rapid slide.
@@kathyastrom1315 Mac`s family ripped him of too ???
@@kathyastrom1315 I remember that year when Elijah Wood presented! I'm pretty sure the award was for visual effects. It was the year Jurassic Park came out, and they had a big animatronic T-rex deliver the envelope to him.
This was common for child stars especially in that period
"Who looks around with their whole body?"
Certain versions of Batman.
also John Travolta in Pulp Fiction.

"Who DOES NOT look around with their whole body?"

Anyone playing PUBG 😉😅😂😂
Fun fact: Old man Marley was a last minute addition to the script to give more substance and someone Kevin can relate to. If you notice his bandaged hand, it changes throughout the movie to a less extreme bandage until it is fully healed at the end. It's meant to symbolize the wound in the family that heals by the end. It seems unnecessary, but it adds heart-warmth and thought and i can't picture the movie without the late Roberts Blossom.
Awww 😊
i didnt think about that at all, i just figured that he was there to help Kevin learn that you cant believe everything you hear, and that you should always be willing to give em a chance.
Fun fact, the guy who answers the phone at the police station is the guy from Seinfeld who played the actor that auditioned to play Kramer when George and Jerry sold their sitcom script and he stole the raisins in the audition, also the junkyard owner in Breaking Bad
And Mr Heckles in Friends
Fun fact I learned from CinemaSins' video on this movie, in cleaning up the spilled milk, Peter accidentally threw away Kevin's plane ticket and passport. That's why there wasn't a fuss about an extra ticket. It's a blink-and-you'll-miss-it detail that makes this film a classic
Wow... lol.
I only learned that about a year ago. I’ve seen this movie a zillion times and never noticed it !
It’s pretty obvious. There’s a full zoom in and everything. Why else would the focus on the trash
@@BabyTJ92 that’s the funny thing, I’d seen this movie so many times, but even as a kid I was wondering why they focused on the trash like that. Wasn’t until my 40th or 50th viewing that I finally caught it.

John Candy is also the reason that Culkin got this role. They worked together in Uncle Buck and he saw the potential.
I think it was john hughes who descided for mcauly. He is the Director of uncle buck and home alone.
@@Morris1581 this is true, in fact he got the idea for Home Alone from Uncle Buck when he’s guarding the house while Buck is gone.

Fun Fact: All of Catherine O'Hara & John Candy's scenes were improvised. They are both from the same comedy troupe (SCTV). Bit of Canadian media history for you.
You know, _Strange Brew_ would be a good winter movie, eh? A tribute to the SCTV thing, eh.
Rick Moranis, Martin Short and Eugene Levy too I believe. And Strange Brew is a great movie and ridiculously Canadian. I’m not even Canadian and I’m saying ‘eh?’ while I’m watching it
@@graham974 Rick Moranis reminded me of the ultimate version of 12 days of Christmas by the McKenzie brothers.
Should watch the movie really weird tales if you’re a fan of the SCTV cast ;)
Fun Fact: With the scene with the spider on the guy's face, the actor didn't want to scare the spider, so he didn't scream. They added the scream in afterwards.
I was wondering why that tarantula didn’t seem fazed by a loud blasting roar sounding from right under it. Tarantulas are usually very defensive and will bite if they feel threatened.
If you wanna see some great child actors, watch „Stand By Me“ - eighties classic, Stephen King adaptation.
Stand By Me. One of the BEST Coming of age movies ever. Even better as a movie than as a book. Because of the changed ending, which even King himself approved and agreed upon as being better.
Yes
Will Wheaton's best roll.
River Phoenix 😪
Stand By Me, The Shawshank Redemption and The Green Mile are definitely the best adaptations of King's works. And rightfully considered some of the best movies ever made.
To explain the after shave scene, Kevin shaved without shaving cream. His skin was still tender. Putting after shave on tender skin burns like hell.

@@Humstuck Die Hard has nothing to do with Christmas though, its just a really dumb action movie lol

The little girl in that film was just brilliant - it's a shame she wasn't in much else apart from Field of Dreams and Volcano.

Which was the reason WHY Macaulay landed the Home Alone movie, due to his charismatic performance in that film.

@Gold Talon "Land of the Free" LOL... sure... sure...
I will never forget the time (in 1999) I made it all the way to the Newark airport to get on a flight to PR and realized I'd left my wallet- with my drivers license- at home. By some weird coincidence, I did have my birth certificate (I think I was in the process of getting a new job and for some reason they'd wanted it? Not even sure)- the ticket agent said "no problem", not only got me my boarding pass and let me on the plane, but she put a note on my returning flight so that they would accept my birth certificate (which is basically a typed piece of paper) and allow me to get back from my trip.
Things sure have changed.

Okay, I just gotta say:
1) They created "Little Nero's” in this movie as a fictitious nod to “Little Ceasar's,” which didn't steal the name from this movie, they've been around since the late 50's.
2) That heating thing he uses on the doorknob is an electric charcoal starter for a BBQ, to light the charcoal without lighter fluid. They've been around forever and they still exist.
3) Milk is a key ingredient when mixing together Mac'n'cheese? So really, it's not a weird drink to have with mac'n'cheese.
Pairing dairy with dairy is kinda weird, and seriously, what kid decides to drink milk when he could have anything he wants (Coke, Pepsi, Dr Pepper, etc)?
@@Entertainzor I did. Such a sweet drink to go with your dinner??? Pop is for parties.

The "hot thing" is used to start the charcoal burning for an outdoor grill.

Fun Fact: The scene where he is sliding across the ice and goes under the cop's legs wasn't acting. That's a genuine smile/reaction. He loved the ride.
Other fun fact: Hard to believe all the house interiors were shot inside an old high school gymnasium.
He actually tried branching out into other genres, including a thriller movie where he plays a kid with serious antisocial behavior. And critics, including professional critics, said that they couldn't accept Macaulay Culkin in a role that deviated so drastically from the kid they had gotten to know and love from Home Alone. He was so heavily associated with this one role that people got upset if he tried doing something different.

No, back then we still had broadcast news and maybe even CNN to spread fake news. Just like now.
Fun fact the scene when John Candy is telling the story of leaving the kid in the funeral home he completely improvised it on the spot.
Here's another one. Joe Pesci intentionally avoided Macaulay Culkin during filming because he wanted him to really be afraid of him.

With Honors
YES!! This, please.
YES!
"Did you say 'yutes'?"
@@LennyCash777 "the two whhaaat ?"
Legend Fred Gwynne.
"Who's Johnny Carson?" Hubin: *Wooooooow*
You seem to have married the average of Crane brothers, Niles and Frasier.
😂
Spot on!!
And she worked in Radio. Lot of coincidences going on here.
OMG Nailed it on the head !!
Yes, THIS
Daniel Stern was absolutely terrified of spiders, he let them put the tarantula on his face ONCE. That scream he gives is his genuine reaction.
Also, hey Hubbin.
Nah. He had to silent scream and they dubbed it in afterwards. You really don't want to alarm a tarantula, especially not one sitting on your face.
I am also arachnophobic and I've always seen that part and thought, "HIS MOUTH IS OPEN WHAT IF IT CRAWLS IN HIS MOUTH AAAAAAAAAAAAAAA"
Interesting fact: Macaulay Culkin has a scar he got from this movie from the scene where Joe Pescis character bit him.
Oh, hearing Ashleigh geeking out over names in the credits is doing my heart a world of good! Our little girl is growing up so fast! *sniffle
Ikr 😂
"Never met a TSA agent...." LOL this was filmed about 20 years before the TSA existed....
More like 10 years.
As a subscriber , I am always glad to see Mr. Blake in your videos . If there ever was a couple who " completed " and complimented each other, you two are it ! I enjoyed the wedding pictures . How did you two meet ? How did you come by Beans ? I don't think beans is following the diet regiment !
"oh, is he gonna be a serial killer ?"
Yeah Ash, this is just another one of your typical Christmas/serial killer movies.
So, no one tell her about "The Good Son"
Well, he did play Ed Gein once...
Umm...Black Christmas?
Slay Bells
@@robdee73 Who are you saying played Ed Gein?
I sincerely hope The Muppet's Christmas Carol is on your list. My favorite Xmas movie. I watch it every December.
Me too!! It's actually one of the best Christmas Carol adaptions. I've read the novella multiple times and it's pretty dang accurate
Same!! I’m glad there’s more of us like that out there. Stay safe this holiday!
I miss Johnny Carson so much. He had so much class compared to the late night people these days, and so much warmth. He just felt like your dad or your grandpa or something. I loved him like crazy and when I was a little kid I used to pretend to be up "sick" every night he was going to be on so I could sit up with my grandma and watch him.
To avoid making a gagillion comments, I’ll just say I DIED laughing - so hard various parts of my body severely hurts now - more times than I can count. You guys are _fabulous_ together. 🥰👌🏼🥰👌🏼
Husband: "Do you know who that is?"
Ashleigh: "No whos that?"
Husband: "Johnny Carson"
Ashleigh: "whose that?"
Husband: "wowwwww"
The sound of disappointment in his voice LMAO
"The Tonight Show" still exists, I would just say he was its most famous host, lol. (And he wasn't even the first host!)
Yeah, old heart sinking slow like the Titanic, me. I was 20 when Johnny left the show. Then 5 years later Titanic came out in theaters!
Roberts Blossom, the actor who played the elderly neighbor, played a character based on Ed Gein in a movie called "Deranged". It was directed by two guys who starred in "Children Shouldn't Play With Dead Things" which was directed by Bob Clark (the director of "A Christmas Story" and the original "Black Christmas"). One of the directors of "Deranged" was the store Santa in "A Christmas Story", and the boyfriend who dressed as Santa for the Christmas party in the original "Black Christmas".
Little Ceasar's was definately around during this movie.
Yup. This was also back when they sold their pizzas in sets of two that came in a long cardboard ready in a paper sleeve. Hence the slogan, "Pizza, Pizza!" They were totally a go-to in my household.
They had the best breadsticks then, and still do today, lol
Apparently they didn't want to pay Little Caesar's for product placement...Nero...another emperor another pizza. Oh and a doctor did a video about this movie (and the sequel!) and cataloged just how many incapacitating or fatal injuries were inflicted on "The Wet Bandits" by lil Kevin. It was almost as funny as the movie.
Hubbins is a hilarious guy, the look on his face when ya didn’t know who Johnny Carson was or when you just figured out the “cop” was actually a thief? Priceless. Meme quality looks right there, had me laughing lol Also this movie is a favorite of mine and I’m glad ya got to see it, I always liked the second one a little more just because the slapstick humor was bumped up a notch. I hope you guys watch it! Both gems in my book though, thanks for the video 😄
His face when she said "that's what she said" was on point
Blake is very funny. He has a dry wit. You guys together are absolutely adorable and his proposal was very romantic.
Ah, memories of flying in the days before the TSA even existed. No security to speak of, you could go back to the waiting area with your family and friends (none of whom were travelling) and just hang out until your flight left. The airline and airport staff were so much more friendly and helpful. It really is sad how much of the fun side (especially for kids) of the travel experience has been lost since 9/11.
It's for your benefit
Watch Airplaine!, made in 1980, to give you more of an idea of what it was like. It's played for comedy, but you were still putting your bags on the belt to go through x-ray and having to put all your metal in the bowl before you walked through the scanner. This was in place by the mid 70s because of a series of hijackings. Yes, your friends and family could meet you at the gate, but they had to go through the checkpoint too. There was a very short period of time when they couldn't during the first Gulf War though, but that was only a few months if I remember correctly.
I always cry when the old man hugs his granddaughter.
Airports before 9/11 were much more chill and nice
Please react to...
My Girl another Macaulay Culkin film.
"He can't see without his glasses 👓"
SUCH a darling movie! 🥰🥰
My Girl was one of my favorite movies growing up!
Uncle buck
With hubby in TV, can I suggest "Ground Hog Day" for the start of February.
This youngin knows John Hughes, and John Williams. Its fairly impressive.
*awkwardly looks over at the large glass of cold milk I’m having with my pasta and veggies*
Right, we aren't weird. This new generation is weird. Lol
I remember hearing that the Gronkowski family went through 20 gallons of milk a week at their peak, so you're in good company. That's between 5 big dudes, but it's still a little more than a half-a-gallon a day, each.
@@gloriakuhn8670 "Am I out of touch? No, it's the children who are wrong."
@@invock exactly, the younger generation.
Milk will always be cool. In America anyway.
