  • NEW MULTIPLAYER in Rimworld that allows entire servers worth of people to play at the same time. You can trade, troll, and spawn events into your friend's colonies. As of right now, the mod is a very early work in progress, but the functionality so far is absolutely mind-blowing! I'd highly recommend you check out the mod, and in this video, I give some details on how to get started to actually use it.

      Problem is, in the concept level multiplayer doesn't work if not everyone are playing at the same time
      for example, what if I decide to invade you while you are offline?
      Will you wake up to a ravaged world?
      Will your pawns be AI controlled or just absent when I invade?
      Generally, is your world frozen when you are not online? (Frozen sounds fine, but it's a detail that needs to be decided on)
      Now, multiplayer in this would be fantastic for discord groups who can schedule their play sessions so everyone play at the same hours, but for the average Joe this system won't work at all

      @Mattriones It could work like this. If you log of the server, players are unable to raid you. You cannot interact with that guy in any way. But to overcome the "Oh, I am getting raided, time to log off." meta, there can be customizable counter that allows you to raid him for set amount of time before he is unraidable or uninteractible.

      Fun but long af, each player would be pausing every 3 seconds and take 10 minutes micromanaging the fight. Only solution is no pausing, all out non stop chaos.

      @@seelo3709 I think pausing would be disabled while raiding. Or you could pause but only your pawns. Everything else would be running like normal.

    my god this is wonderful if everyone render their colony in one core but "their core" that means no lag for others players. If this mod will be compatible with almost every mod in the workshop this is going to be a revolution!!

    imagine forming factions and actually helping out other colonies, dividing labour and specialising in stuff, the way the ideology mod can interact with this too to create different cultures, this is the framework for something actually amazing

      Me and a buddy used Phi to basically have a super peaceful and rich world producing weapons, equipment, and training soldiers. While another colony was on a hellscape with a countless extremely deadly enemies on the hardest difficulty with a climate that when from scorching summer to sub zero winters. Honestly really fun but phi didn't have this level of interaction. So I'm looking forward to this.

      it would be almost impossible for a person's brain to handle, and also the computer power is still limited. But I bet there will be someday we have a game like that, it would be a super-game

      Anyone know what happens to a colony when the player is offline? Presumably some kind of stasis and only the date changes when you log back in? I guess that's the main obstacle for implementing pvp raids.

      Damn imagine big wars with mortars, 20 colonist with locus Armour, portable shields, doomsday rockets. Clan wars, it would be insane! Big colonies going up in flame ! omg so cool

      Cool feature would be creating npc outposts or Setting ambushes, that will attack enemy caravans, if they try to move through it. Those could be Ai controlled and work even if you were offline. Or clash of Clans style, you attack their colony, but your own instance of it, so the defense is Ai controlled, and you get to take some random resources if you manage to get to the stash. Just a few ways, that might be easier to implement than full blown PvP.

      You can do majority of that already in OnlineCity, just has no PvP I believe.

      @@Shero1337 well think about it like in a pvp raid. If one guy needs time to prepare and to plan ahead, but this guy starts attacking him anyway, does that seem kinda fair to you? The only real solution to this I can see, would be making the raider and the raidee vote on the speed.

      It would make sense if every limb accounts for raid diff. Not only weapons and armor. Or combat points. For example if you have gojuce that would highten the raid difficulty

    The question of how should the raid be can be solved like that:
    there can be a complicated system of planning what your guys should do when attacked at base and the defender is offline: where they should go, if somebody is wounded what they should do, if attacker is placing def structures what they should do, what if something is blown up at their base and so on and so forth. Those who make their defence well-planned are much more able of defending successfully. As time passes, we will see some incredible defence shit guys create and it would be awesome!

      This system is relatively easy to create as players decide what their colonists should do in a variety of situations, Of course it's impossible to calculate everything so the AI shall be improved and there shall be a 'then enable-AI' button in 'defence planning constructor'

    this mod look really... good...but to bad its now ABANDONDED what a shame i honestly think rimworld would be alot better with multiplayer MMO,i woul'dt care if it was a dlc that costs 100 USD it would be worth every cent.... if its even possible to add it (in the 1.5 version of the game)

    When "multiplayer" and "Rimworld" comes to mind, a same question always arises: How does the pause and speed up work with multiple people? If you're going to raid someone, how is the game speed determined? Maybe the game should automatically pause for both players every specific interval, giving both limited time to plan out movement beforehand.

    Then start in a RimCity filled with Zombies and gun toting scavengers, using Line of Sight limiting mods for scare....

      Decided to separate it out as it's own post:
      Any mod developers out there who can run he below idea are welcome to, it is called Kingmaker.
      At the core of it, the player would only be able to control a single pawn through 'direct means,' such as drafting and ordering to attack enemies. Indirect control of Non-Player-Characters will still happen normally via Jobs, Schedules, Gears, Zones and the likes, but 'go here and mine this thing' orders are limited to just the king piece. Designed not just to add some extra difficulty, as managing the colony is done via the management tools, but also possible role-playing when added to theme heavy mods. That one pawn promoted to King... that is 'you.'
      For an easier game make the King a celestial so you won't just game over on a sudden illness or an unlucky blow.
      With some sort of Co-Op Multiplayer support, this 'no-direct control' mod would allow for each individual player to have their own playing pieces in a shared environment. I shouldn't need to explain how this would make Rimworld something akin to a MMO/RPG/RTS/colony manager... yeah, it is getting big, our little Rimworld. Just far to many possibilities when you introduce a form of hard core mode to a Player developed game.
      It also adds some interesting roleplaying elements, Kingmaking with friends in a themed server:
      Take the above zombie-city run for the most perfect example it is, being the game mode I am striving for still. Start with a single Pawn for each player, grouping three or four of them together into a single starter colony. Do remember to allow settings so people can choose to start with their friends here, it is vital. It is up to this small group to pacify the city map, strip it of usable resources, and turn it into the start of a nation that will then spread outwards across the map. But they are only one of several groups doing this, with every 'abandoned city' on the map being a possible spot a rival player-led group has set up their own base in this zombie wasteland.
      PS:
      'Kingmaking' is a fun play style to try even without a mod enforcing the rules. Try it, select a single pawn and only directly control that one... the rest have to be given schedules and you need to pray they are in the right mood to do their jobs. Ensure you get the Guard For Me mod, so you can set patrol and guard points as the other pawns will need to do actual round in order to keep the King safe. Surprising how often the 'draft all - charge at the enemy' is the primary defense tactic of a colony.
      Taking it away changes the whole game.

    What happens with your colony when you go "offline" ? Does it freeze in time? Does it go on by itself? Can you wake up to everything just gone?

      it freezes by itself from what i looked, but idk if players can gift and such

      I hope it freezes it and prevents any interaction such as getting attacked and so on. Theres no point in getting raided and enjoying getting raided if you cant even organize the defense by micromanaging the colonists

    I can see this mod taking ages to get anywhere, as there already is a multiplayer mod, multiple players in one colony/instance is HEAVILY prone to desyncing which if has been extremly problematic even without mods.

    We just gonna pretend OnlineCity didn't exist long before this mod? Everyone in the comments seems so wowed by this like they've never searched for a multiplayer mod in the work shop. Sure OnlineCity hasn't been updated in a long time so now this mod is a genuinely pleasant thing to exist, but it really feels like people just forgot OnlineCity exists.

    This mod is gone now but they do have a multiplayer mod and it works great. Very easy to use and it's compatible with lots of other mods. You can even turn one of your single player games into a multiplayer session and invite your friends.

    honestly this guy deserves to get a lot of $$ thrown at him and hired by the team to help with the game. the game devs themselves said this feature would never work, but i guess there's much to be seen. if a colony were to get a quest for say royalty, but someone else lived closer, would they snipe the quest i wonder.

    wow, i had the idea of making a huge farm, going around and givving everyone toxic fallout and then selling them my ecess food, but giving them thousands of silver to boost colony wealth to then summon a huge mechwave is a new level of evil.

    If player to player interaction is the same as player to faction in vanilla,you may as well be playing singleplayer with how rarely trade deals/raids are going to happen

    How does the time sync work? Does everyone just operate under their own times? For instance, I may not have sped up the game as much as my friend, so on their screen it may be winter while for me it's summer; etc.

    Once the attack possibility comes, this mod is lost into void. The defense system is garbage in Rimworld, especially without modding. The colonists most likely suck very hard to defend your town as AI which it will be once youre not online as the attack happens. As long as there is no attack possibility its still okish. On top of the grift trolling people can mess other peoples colonies very easily just like youve shown. There are so many things to fuck this mod up and most likely itll happen sooner than later.

    This is exactly how I feel Rimworld should handle Multiplayer servers. Besides the amazing gameplay, the modding community is the other reason I have a few thousand hours in this game.

    it’s good to note, pringus is and i think will be the only dlc optional server, it’s got a really cool community though so i definitely recommend it, also good to note open world does not work with prepare carefully even in single player atleast last time i played, like he said also it’s a work in progress and sorta janky sometimes, i recommend joining the discord server in the description because there really cool

    Im tryin to figure out how pausing works with this mod, since you can still pause the game on your plot
    cause that would cause the rest of the game to be paused for everyone? no, so does it just pause for you so you desync from everyone else then? its a tad bit confusing
    Still, great mod with sooo much potential

    Imagine 2v2, you get 3 of your colonists, your friend gets 5 colonists, and you attack the same settlement at the same time. And when the map opens you see black or fog of war, 8 colonists, 5 of which you cannot control at all.
    Aand from here on everything is possible, one player places the build orders then goes forward to scout and the other player builds the things. The colony owner gets notified of the presence but then again, fog of war he needs to check to see what is going on. RTS rimworld?
    Further on, you can build other colonies of yours that are controlled by AI in order to help (just like that one mod if I remember correctly and it wasn't a dream or something)

    This sounds like a really fun mod! I'd love to see let's plays on that!
    I probably won't play it myself, since I'm not very used to raiding myself, or being raided by players (I don't play a lot of multi), but this looks like a lot of fun anyways. The sending of gifts is quite broken, but I'm sure they'll fix it, maybe by limiting the amount you can send. As for pvp, maybe a good way to avoid giving the advantage to raiders of afk players would be to make it bothersome to do so, i.e. make it preferable to attack colonies whose owner is online, but with the inside of the base invisible to the attacker. Maybe this will even allow for a different kind of killbox, who knows?

      Vanilla Ideology DLC, the maps have ruined ancient vehicles on them you can dismatle, some for a small amount of recources others for litrally nothing, its just decoration i think.

      @@ellieblaber4243 ive got 900 hours on the Rim but only bought the Royalty and Ideology DLC about 3 weeks ago..love the Royalty DLC but ive disabled the Ideology for now as it changes alot of stuff and kinda increases the early game dificulty quiet a bit and changes what your actual priorities are.

    Gosh even if they implement a full server side world, its probably gonna be as full of cheaters, because the game certainly wasn't designed to be server-side
