For those out there who struggle with the correct pronunciation of "Illinois" as this appears to be a more common problem than I realized. The "S" in Illinois IS silent. It's pronounced "illin-noy" 😜
I will second the idea that the aiming module is generally the better choice. The reason is that -11% to dispersion may sound less than the 12% reload speed, but actually that 11% reduces the area in which the shells land to 0.89*0.89=0.7921 of the original ellipse. That's an almost 21% reduction in the area where the shells land, and usually an even bigger increase in how much of that is filled by the enemy ship.
@@deaninchina01 Still better than a 12% reload. Do you prefer shooting SLIGHTLY more often or have more accuracy? It's not like you constantly shoot everytime it finished reloading. It's better to know your shots are gonna be accurate than be like "eh, it missed, better luck in 25 seconds" or something (idk the reload speed but you get the idea).
@@deaninchina01 Yes, because it is -11% on both radii of the ellipse. Ergo, squared, etc. Well, exactly how the shells land statistically in that ellipse is also using the sigma, but that is a constant for the ship and no module will change that.
I just started this game myself, use to playing a lot of war thunder, still do for tanks, but never got use to the naval part.. I can say this game is nice for playing naval warfare
The problem with the game introducing these proposed designs is that they never get used for their actual intended purpose. The design for the Illinois was to incorporate the fully-automated dual purpose 8" guns, 5" guns, and the late war 3" AA replacements for the 40mm Bofors...into an Iowa tough Anti-Aircraft platform... Not a "Large Cruiser". Same with the several DD's that were designed specifically for ASW work... and cruisers designed also as AA platforms. How many will set up their Illinois as an AA platform?
It's a fun ship to play, you do however from my experience as well will become the focus of everybody on other team. I've had some stupid high potential damage games in this ship.
It's OP even in good hands, not expert. I did 180k in first battle and if you get used to shell velocity, it's very powerfull. In ranked battles I do normally > 100k damage every battle. I'm average player with about 49% WR

It is alot of fun. would it be a competitive ship nope of the RB ships i think only the Ohio really fits that bill, but if you like the Dakka this is the boat for you. being able to sit at 50% health comfortable because you are a BB getting full use of the AR oh my so much fun.
Imagine the Wisconsin is a tier 10 but it’s gimmick (due to its unfortunate accident and repair) has a bow that’s unovermatchable. Maybe like 45mm. That is all.
While I want the Illinois, I am not going to subject myself through the painful reset of most lines, I usually wait for 2x and reset the St. Vincent line, it is an enjoyable line.
I saw you firing a lot of HE in that battle, but I'm curious whether the AP would be more effective. Don't get me wrong, I know you're not going to get citadels at long range, and especially against bow in BBs the HE will be better. However, those AP shells are only ricocheting at 60-68 degrees, and at 19km your shells are going to be hitting decks at about 60 degrees, and even less at longer range, and at that range your AP deck pen is more than 90mm. This might make Illinois one of the few battleships where plunging fire AP is actually viable because the range to not ricochet is so short, compared to for example Montana where that range is 28-30km, at which point your shell travel time is actually longer than Illinois has at most of its ranges. Also, at this 19-21km range in Illinois, you're not going to pen battleship belts, but you can still get pens on superstructure, bow/stern plating and so on, as well as probably a decent number of cruisers.
What bothers me about this ship is that the Superstructure doesn't look like it should, like why does it still have the raise fire control position which isn't present on the design? why does it have the two smoke funnels of Iowa and not the single trunked funnel from the proposal? why does it just have the 10 twin 5"/38 mounts instead of 16 twin 5"/54 mounts? The answer is laziness, or at least I wish I could say that but they made the effort to add the weird looking aft radar tower, which is also not present in design G (which Illinois is based of since Design G is the proposal with 3 turrets as opposed to F with 2 turrets and H with 4 turrets). I suppose that is an attempt to avoid claims of it being a complete and total copy-paste with swapped guns.
I want to like the Illinois. But you pointed out the weakness: No one wants to push up, so you are stuck lobbing shells at max range hoping the other guy forgot to activate their WASD hacks. The couple matches where my team did play push up she is fun. But when the game stagnates to long range camping, the thinner armor and loss of 10k HP sucks. Especially

Once you get out past 16km, the shell flight time starts to make life difficult. Like I said, if you are blessed by MM enough to get constant close range games, it’s really an 8/10.
After playing a through all of bronze ranked today I heavily disagree with this ships competitiveness. Ranked matches are basically always close range fights and because of that this ship excellent in dealing with enemy cruisers dd's and bb's. Also to the point of armor 32mm is still far and away very good l. If you angle away from your opponent while moving quarter speed you can have all 3 turrets firing and the majority of enemy ap will still bounce/ shatter. I did this to an FDG, an Iowa, and a Amagi and none of them got any significant hits on me.
Also Iowa also has 32 mm torp belt and Georgia has a 38 mm upper and side plate but also still has 32 mm torp belt as for as I can tell Missouri is the only one with full 38 mm plating making it technically the most tanks but again Georgia's 38mm goes very nearly to the waterline so she's still quite well protected. And again 32mm will protect against 406 over match so the only ships that are likely to do significant damage through the torp belt are Musashi and Georgia but at that point if they're so close you can pretty much dpm them to death before they get you.
There was so much salt in the gameplay chat that I had a hard time actually focusing on the voiceover and gameplay lmao. The way people get worked up over this stupid game is just hilarious
