Thanks for another honest review Kyle, I've always been attracted to the iMacs. Since I had all the peripherals I opted for the base M4 Mac mini, otherwise I'd have that iMac on my desk right now.
Watching this video from my M4 iMac, love it! I've always preferred a desktop where I don't have the inconveniences of sourcing a good alternative monitor, keyboard etc.
I bought a Mac Mini M4 base Model. I’m in for around 1K. I bought a 4K 27” Dell P2723QE Monitor. External 2TB thunderbolt 4 external ACASIS NVMe enclosure, with a WD Black SN770 2TB NVMe SSD drive. I’m using my older Mac USB keyboard and Mouse. I’ll use the external Thunderbolt4 SSD as the main drive with my application, which will be faster than the Apple internal drive. 👍🏻😊
What is the speed of the screen on this iMac? 60Hz or 120Hz? Is the performance enough for editing 4k 10-bit footage with v-log color grading for youtube purposes?
Would you recommend the M4 iMac to users who predominantly use Adobe software programs for work like Illustrator, photoshop, InDesign, Premier Pro? Or is the M4 Pro MacBook a better choice?
There's definitely an advantage if you're using a lot of memory hungry apps, where you'll not only have more room to run everything effectively, but you'll put less stress on other components like the SSD from memory swapping, but it really boils down to how you use your machine!
All the wallpapers for each pack I've made are shown in the media on each product - the one in these videos is just sitting on my computers right now! I may make this available soon, but I'm absolutely swamped at the moment!
Hi Kyle! Thank you for your great reviews. I’m trying to understand what’s best for me: m4 pro mac mini or m4 iMac. I’m going to use my future Mac for Figma and photo editing, video calls and power point. But sometime I want to play League of legends. Also I’ve heard how hard to find good monitor for Mac not from apple. So should I bought iMac m4 or Mac mini with m4 pro?😅
Thanks for the video Kyle. I specifically got the 10 core CPU 512 GB SSD iMac option because 1. I could not justify buying a 2 year old Studio Display IPS screen at high price and did not want the binned 8 core CPU chip from the base model. I'm so low tech could you confirm for me by upgrading to the 10 core CPU my iMac performance should match the base Mac mini? I saw some benchmarks comparison from the Verge but am not sure.
I’m not a big fan of the peripherals so for me it wouldn’t make sense. But if you like the Apple peripherals, it’s not a bad deal 😊 Also, I’d go for the green personally.
Hey Kyle.. I was considering the M4 IMac or the M4 Mini for a system to edit raw photos. That’s really the only purpose for the computer ( I’m not a gamer or video editor ). If I went with the Mini I would have to buy the monitor and everything else. In your opinion which system would be a better investment? Please keep in mind that I’m not a computer geek and everything about computers confuses the hell out of me. I can always increase the ram and storage if I went with the IMac ( any recommendations? ). The more research I do the more confused I get. I guess there’s no simple/easy answer. The Mini seems like an excellent product which makes my decision more difficult. I’m currently using a 2015 Retina IMac which is still rocking but it’s definitely time to upgrade. It seems that the IMac gets trashed by so many people. Maybe I read too many reviews. I just want to make a good decision. Any suggestions or recommendations will truly be appreciated. Thanks Dave
Depending on how much you care about scaling (Kyle said that it isn't something that's too much of a dealbreaker), getting the dell U2723QE (500 bucks for an equally colour accurate 27 inch 4k monitor vs the 24 inch 4.5k of the iMac) and maybe a used magic mouse, keyboard and trackpad combo (could be ~200 bucks or less), and some okay speakers might be a better spend than the iMac. If you want to upgrade somewhere down the line, you'd change the mini, not the peripherals. It's also good in case you want to game on a console somewhere down the line which you'd connect to the monitor. I think the modularity of a DKM + Computer better than only the iMac. I'm not Kyle, but that's what I'd do.
Get the m4. We ran a graphics design business on a M1 air 512/8gb. Unless your images are more than 1 terabyte. But if that’s the case you are making 25k dollars per shoot and don’t need a recommendation.
iMac cannot be used as a monitor for another machine. And it’s resolution and refresh rate is locked to the one that ships from the factory. so if/ when m4 is outdated you have to throw the iMac away. Or if you want a higher refresh rate you can’t use the soc inside the iMac with the new monitor. To me the iMac is a bad buy if you ever want to update the monitor or the SoC
I like my mechanical keyboard, low latency 2.4GHz mouse with a good charging placement, and my high refresh rate monitor. MacMini is still a better deal if you already own peripherals or don't want the terrible ones included by the iMac.
In this video I keep seeing CPU temp over 101C, to 105C. Is that for real? This is not some Intel power hungry CPU. Why hasn't Apple done something better with cooling? Disgusting. In general, I am still disappointed there is no 27" iMac. It's what stopped me from getting an M1 iMac, and if I had money it would probably still be one of the reasons to not get an M4 one. Thanks for the video.
Recommend people order more than 16GB RAM. Software developers (including Apple with MacOS and Apple Intelligence) are going through another round of bloating their products, with the addition of "AI" (whether people want it or not.) In a couple of years 16GB RAM is going to feel tight.
Ironic you say that, I ran a small graphics design business for 4 years on m1 air 512/8gb. No issues and each project made over $1k. I would say the 16gb is good enough for 4-8 years for 95% of the people.
Outside of the 4.5k screen and camera, I don't see it as valuable due it's price and functionality issues. - Crappy Magic mouse 🐁. - No Type A port. - Starts with only 2 Thunderbolt 4 ports. - Only 256 GB of internal SSD storage. - If something breaks, the whole thing needs to be replaced. - High-priced at $1,300. - Expensive RAM and internal SSD upgrades at initial puchase.
With the M2 to M4 Mac Mini you can get a lot more for less. The only thing you won't get is the amazing screen resolution at that price of $1,300. Example using the new M4 Mac Mini: - $800 for 24 GB RAM and 256 GB of internal SSD storage. Including a more powerful 10-core CPU. - $100 for an external storage with Samsung T9. - $205 for an LG QHD 27-inch monitor with 144hz refresh rate. - $28 for headphones 🎧 or speakers. - $33 for a 1080p 60hz web camera. - $20 for a wide mouse pad. - $26 for a wireless mouse and keyboard from Dell. - $20 for a dongle from BaseUS that includes an SD card reader and 3 Type A ports. Total = $1,232
@@KC-bi9jw Because older customized mouses or other accessories that are still good use a Type A port. For those with a desktop setup previously, this saves costs of getting new accessories. The only benefits of a Type C port are 20+ Gbps data transfer speeds and safer removal of data from USB sticks. The M4 Mac Mini has two 10 Gbps Type C ports in the front that could have been Type A ports.
I still think the base mini 16gb/256 or 512gb is the one to get for 80% of people. In a year you can upgrade the ssd with a third party ssd since they are super replaceable.

borderline malware. shame on you for shilling this garbage.
If this had a pro chip I would have got this yesterday.
I keep hoping that Apple will release a stand alone 24" display.
Is there noticeable improvement if you upgrade to 24gb ram from 16gb ram ?

Another good thing is you can get a VESA back plate if you want to pop it on a monitor arm.
Yeah but how much is that lmao, $500?
@ there is no additional cost. You select your option. Also, why the lmao? If this feature cost more I would have stated that.
May I ask about the wallpaper in video? I bought Spectrum from wallpaper pack but couldn’t find that wallpaper in there.

Im still holding out on my M1 iMac, waiting for that early 2025 32" M4 Pro iMac Pro. I really hope it happens. I also really hope it isnt £5000
This would be a great Family Computer or Community Computer to set up in the living room.
Can i do 4K video editing final cut pro using this?
Another great video from your side - love your videos!!!
wallpaper link which is shown in video?
Why is it said that the Twitter account mentioned in the video description does not exist? 😢
I deactivated Twitter, I'm only on threads and Bluesky now.
Depends on how much desktop space I have. Lots of desktop space IMAC, but not much desktop space then its Mac Mini for me.
If it was 27” or bigger, it would be tempting. But 24” just isn’t big enough for me anymore.
