Honour and respect to Neall, Kenneth and Piet and all the brave participants of Op Super. Our gunship (and all other) pilots were exceptional...leading the ground battle from the air, being the infantry's eyes, communicating with Tac HQ to bring in urgent supplies, casevacs and aircraft strikes as required, whilst at the same time keeping the Alouette III orientated in such a way so that the 20mm cannon could be deployed on the targets, whilst dodging incoming rounds and missiles.

Great recollection from brave warriors, good teamwork and inter-service co-operation. Enjoyed Neill's Fire Force control and making good instant decisions. Thanks, fellas, for your service and commitment. Thank you, also, Piet and Kenny - tell your story to your grandkids!

As a relative of Phil I would like to thank you all for your efforts that day, I always wondered what happened that day and what Phil's character was like in 32 as I was pretty young when he passed. Take care and thank you all.

I like how Neil learns about the morale issue and takes that onboard to modify his future actions (if there are still future actions). It shows that even if it happened 40 years ago, and there were debriefings at the time, we can still learn by discussion.
Constantly learning and improving is the sign of an excellent leader. manager and officer!

    Impressive operation.
I am advised that Ops Super was spawned by an EW intercept and decryption by Ops Brush of 5 Signal Regiment.
Specifically, the efforts of Signalman Steve Quirke are particularly noteworty, I think him being from the EW troop at Ondangwa (511 Troop). He sadly died quite recently - RIP.
One of the unique features of that initial intercept was that it indicated enemy aircraft moving in a different direction to the norm and into a usually inactive area of south-west Angola.
In fact, SWAPO was setting up a new area of operations and direction of infiltration into Ovamboland.
Accordingly, Ops Super was a very substantial strategic setback for SWAPO.

Great to hear the stories, back at you Nellis, and don't forget when I told you we have no more ammo and you were still commanding the troops and I fired the last 10 rounds at a group in the ravine. I am sure you pissed yourself there as well. 🤣

Would be interested to know where the battle stats quoted originate? Alpha and Foxtrot platoons were extracted the day after the ops and my platoon was left behind to keep the area secure for the press. As they landed I was requested to advise anyone who asked that we had 201 confirmed enemy kills as this "was a psychological number" which ultimately was widely quoted. I doubt any count was ever done as the area was too large, so query where the numbers you quote come from?

Over and above the obvious intestinal fortitude displayed, your recall is hugely impressive guys.
I was up at Ondags around that time and I doubt if I could speak for more than a few minutes about my time there.
Neall, can you remember who the Adj. was in your time?

Innis unfortunate that even at this stage terms like terrorists are still being used to referring to us as far as I know we weren't terrorists but we were forced into the fighting by the situation which was prevailing at the time.We did not go around raping women or killing innocent civilians. Yes some are referring to the mines that killed people on the roads as terrorists actions those were unfortunate incidents which can be referred to as the corateral damage today. Just like so called security forces did horrible things to the civilians during their operations. Here in Namibia fortunately we are better recocilited with our ex while enemy and see each other as brothers/ sisters who are only sharing this one beloved country we all call our own. I was forced by the situation to fight for what I believed in but not to go terrorists the innocents.Sorry I have to come in and say this because of some language used.

Terrorists terrorise. Murdered and tortured farmers. Murdered and tortured the locals from different factions and those who provided information to the Boers. Also, commies. Same thing. Terrorists.
