- What happened to Ollie after he was rescued by Buxton Mountain Rescue Team? In the video, he details how he managed to recover from a significant back injury and a spine that was broken in three places. Ollie went out climbing with a friend at Alderly cliff in the Peak District National Park when the accident happened. Ollie pieces together the moments from the fall to his recovery and how the handling by first aid trained team members and the use of a full-body splint meant that Ollie's injuries were not made worse by the rescue.
Ollie was treated by the surgical team at the Northern General NHS Hospital. He was lucky. His spinal cord was not damaged in the cliff fall, although it was close. Through grit and determination and the excellent care of the NHS staff involved Ollie made a good recovery and was back climbing within the year. Well done Ollie and thank you for sharing your story with us in this video.
Full details of the call out number 11 from 2019 can be found on the team's Website.
