man, i totally forgot to comment on this vid, but massive thanks, calli, for playing whats probably still my favorite souls game (though ER is a very close contender) in terms of atmosphere. imo, Boletaria is a masterclass in environmental storytelling, as you make your way further through the level, following the demonic invasion that had just rampaged through its streets. there are carts still on the roads and bowls and platters with foods still on tables, carriage animals only recently been killed off, etc. around the fountain behind Tower Knight you see tons of dead defenders, likely slaughtered as their retreat through the gate was cut off by the Fat Minister/Official. and up that last set of stairs, you see that the last remaining defenders, among them the red phantoms, even managed to bring down a dragon. those black (=red) phantoms are the human forms (are at least the spirits that remain of them) of the royal/elite knights of boletaria, very similar to Gwynns 4 royal knights in dark souls. why only their spirits remain? because their physical bodies turned into demons, the bosses you fought up until that point. they guy with the sword you already killed was the Penetrator, the guy with the huge shield and pvp griefer weapon is Tower Knight and the filthy archer is Phalanx (iirc you noticed, Phalanx' actual body tried to move away from you during the fight, since her memories from being an archer are still kinda in there). as i said, the atmosphere in this is still my favorite, out of all of Froms souls games. and all can be summed up with the silly line of the Dreglin Merchant in 1-1 "it is the end of great boletaria as we know it." in most other souls games, you turn up when things have already been bad for a long time, but in this, the demons only just took over, seemingly snuffing out all hope the country still had. i also kinda like the jank and the fact that its kinda the most "fair" of the games, because you can understand a lot about enemies by observing them. they got simple tells for the most part, rarely do fake-out attacks or seemingly infinite combo strings, like they love to do in later games. looking forward to you possibly finishing the game tonight! but there are some real treats still coming up. also really looking forward to your reaction to the last boss of the game...

After the first stream, I wondered how far you'd get, but this was a pretty great stream for progress. I feel you've really embraced the game at this point, which is awesome to see.
Great progress today Calli, you're getting closer to the end. Just like with Pontiff you oneshot the hardest boss in the game, great job. The other stages all have their own White Tendency events, you might want to do those first before bringing the worlds to Pure Black since you're about 1 boss kill away from them. I hate to say it, but you'll probably need to die in World 1 again since killing a Black Phantom shifts the Tendency back toward White, and you didn't get the Primeval Demon while you were there when it was Pure Black.
Lotsa playin today, you got through that war crime of an area and defeated a bunch of bosses, great job today (dw we'll get our penetrator fight in the remake) and now that we got the legaly distinct Guts sword we'll get through this game in no time

You beating Flamelurker with such skill was awesome to watch Calli. Glad you're enjoying the DBS, it really melts through enemies in this game. I hope you keep on trying to get pure white world tendency in the other areas since there are NPCs that appear only if the world tendency is pure white.

Thank you to whoever gifted me membership! I tend to prefer watching the vods just because of inconvenient timing, and unfortunately it would seem youtube doesn't notify me who gifted after the fact. As usual, fun to see which bosses and areas others have harder or easier times with, especially ones like Fool's Idol or Flamelurker, and Dragon God is especially intriguing to see how people react to it initially. It's been some time, but I think I got the special NPC black phantom in 1-1 to fall down the rafters because I just couldn't take her on face to face lol.
new wife acquired, annoying bosses slain I'd say it was a successful 7+ hour Souls session! (let's just ignore the NPC kill steal...) great job today! now you go have a nice rest before your practice...AND after too!! take care Calli!

If I had that ring and it pinged me every time I felt stressed then I'd just want to get rid of it for making me more stressed. 1-2 more streams I'd guess, then up to you if the remake is worth it. You're good with Demon Souls now, should be no problems, as awkward as parts can be.

I can't believe that after all these years i would see another Soul be tempted by a Demon's Soul... it was my introduction to Fromsoft , it is still my favorurite because it was my first (and Maiden in Black and Yuria ) and i solemnly regret selling my PS3 just because of this game
Flamelurker's "gimmick" only really came into play in multiplayer. He'd always target the last player to do damage to him, so it was a fight about juggling his aggro.
Love to see OG Demon's Souls getting a playthrough by Holo EN, hate that it's Mori. She just never stops babbling, talks over most of the great voice acting work in the game, plays like an over leveled ape. Saw her complaining about difficulty in the first video while she refuses to wear armor or use any tools the game provides other than a big sword. Its impossible to watch these videos. Hope some other streamers give this great game a try.

The Crushing Great Sword is what you need the Dragon Bone Smasher for, it has high base damage and S scaling in strength.
So, just need to go get that Pure Greystone from the guy in 2-2.
