Good selection! Killing Joke's Requiem would be in my top 20, as would Bauhaus's Telegram Sam, Underpass by John Foxx, Dog Eat Dog by Adam & the Ants, and one of my all time favourites, Martha and the Muffins' Echo Beach. Re Theatre of Hate, I see someone has already mentioned Do You Believe in the Westworld, so I'll recommend Rebel Without a Brain, Nero and The Hop. Keep up the good work - i've been subscribed to your channel for a few months now but I think this is the first time I've posted a comment

@@TheVinylOrchard Dog Eat Dog was the single that brought the Ants to the attention of a wider, and younger, audience (I was only 11 in 1980), but prior to their appearance on TotP I believe I'm right in saying that the Ants had a predominantly punk following. Echo Beach is comfortably new wave in my book! If anything, I had second thoughts about including John Foxx, but I guess his links to Ultravox!, as with Numan and Tubeway Army, meant that he was still appreciated by a punk/new wave audience. As I said though, I was only 11 in 1980 🙂

You have a gem, with theTheatre of Hate debut single. They are led by Kirk Brandon and are still performing. The 1982 album 'Do You Believe in The West World?' is a post-punk classic, and one I had, but let go of, when i thought I might be becoming too old for such things, but great music is eternal and appeals to me, even thogh I,am in my 60.s.
Absolutely fantastic 20 singles . If i picked 20 form 1980 it would be very similar my friend . The year i left school , the year i fell in love for the first time . What a fantastic time to be alive 😊
Theatre of Hate were great. Kirk Brandon went on to form Spear of Destiny with Stan Stammers of ToH which also had Dolphin Taylor (of Tom Robinson Band). Made a couple of decent albums. ToH had a brilliant single released in 1982 called Do You Believe In The Westworld that is worth checking out. Great list as usual Chris.
Love that single 'believe in the westworld' worth checking out - Great band TOH much better than SOD IMO tho SOD did put out some great singles just not a album band for me
My favourite track by the Undertones Get Over You. Which absolutely resonated with me during my college days as I was running up the alley to catch the train home. I was madly in love with a fellow student but it was unrequited even though she was happy to hang out with me. She knew my feelings, but I respected her feelings and we remained best friends for years.
Another very enjoyable video. Any Trouble are well worth listening to. Personally, I love their first album ' Where are all the nice girls', a Stiff ckassic. Driven by Clive Gregson who went on to much acclaim in more folky circles, yet still got AT together at times until fairly recently.
"what have I missed?" (well you did ask 😉) I'd have considered: The Specials, Girls At Our Best, Orange Juice, Teardrop Explodes, The Jam, The Skids, Simple Minds, XTC, Pretenders, Pauline Murray, The Beat, The Clash, Elvis Costello, Dexy's, Secret Affair, My favourite year by a long way for both singles and LPs
Wanted to avoid ska bands as they didn’t fit. Treason and talk of the town were contenders and in hindsight might have been better but weren’t ‘new wave’ enough. I completely forgot Sgt Rock which is very annoying. Realised that yesterday when it was left out on my table!! Some great stuff there which doesn’t all fit but some amazing music in that year. Cheers my friend, Chris
The Cure-'A Forest', never loses its other-worldly atmosphere ,I still play it regularly after 44 years, what a band ! , and they have a new album in the pipeline this year. You are spot on, 'Argy Bargy' is classic Squeeze, and I think their best album, I've had so many happy hours listening to this magnum opus. Au pairs made two studio albums, a very politically aware group, two males and two females, , anyone who likes Gang of Four would enjoy thier music, I would suggest.
Another good one Chris, have 15/20 which isn’t bad.You should check out The Au Pairs debut album playing with a different sex from 1981. I f I could offer some honourable mentions from 1980; Echo Beach - Martha & The Muffins, Towers of London - XTC, Requiem - Killing Joke, Holiday in Cambodia- Dead Kennedys, Dark Entries - Bauhaus. And… (How I Wrote) Elastic Man - The Fall.
Great to see the Barracudas again. Of the post punk bands I've taken my wife to see,Theatre of Hate ( previously The Pack) are the only band that she has walked out of! Nightmares in Wax -Black Leather is worth a spin, Killing joke- Change, as well as The Cramps: Drug Train, Garbageman, The Birthday Party - Fiend Catcher or Mr Clarinet. The Sound- Heyday to name a few.
Great choices again Chris a few singles I didn't get but hey top 10 got the lot! I was going into post punk and electronic stuff! And NWOBHM 😆 so my tastes were confused in the 80's same as now to be honest! Great vid as usual! 1981? You want to really 😂 Oh Theatre of hate was a guy called Kirk Brandon! I don't know much about him I'm afraid!
Some great stuff there, have them all apart from Any Trouble. I prefer Legion by Theatre of Hate to the other double A-side song Original Sin, it's a classic and Warhead is still my favourite UK Subs song. In a personal preference of singles I'd put above some in the list that I still love from 1980, Dark Entries by Bauhaus, Holiday in Cambodia by the Dead Kennedys, Wardance by Killing Joke (the b-side Pssyche is just as good though), Bad Man by the Cockney Rejects and Big A Little A by Crass (which to me is far superior than Nagasaki Nightmare which was on the flip of this double A-side).
Legion is excellent too. I didn’t even realise it was a double A. I don’t own any Bauhaus. They passed me by at the time and when I tried to find some they are so expensive. Not a fan of dead kennedys. I avoid the Oi stuff. It has too many political overtones often. Wish I had that killing joke single.
@@TheVinylOrchard Yep, the KJ single is class, as is the one after, Requiem. I liked all sub genres around punk ranging from post punk to goth to anarcho to Oi! but yes, the latter was a hot potato politically at times. At least the Cockney Rejects were wise enough to dismiss the politics around it, they preferred the football but that brought a whole new heap of trouble in itself!
I used to have that game from the sleeve of Undertones. Wasn't really good. It was too clumsy to move the players around. The only one of these that i do have is Going Underground. Pulling Mussels is on my shopping list so i hope to have it. I've actually seen it several times, but i don't wanna pay as much as they are asking for it. For some reason while all the other Squeeze singles are cheap, Mussels and Goodbye Girl are the only ones that have high asking price. My luck has continued. After your previous video i've found Ruts Babylon's Burning. So will my luck continue and if so which single will i find next? Pasi

Two of my favourites of tge genre here Chris - The Vapors and Joy Division. Any Trouble were a decent band led by guitarist Clive Gregson.
