Ping eye 2’s, love them, first set of irons and been playing g them for 4 years, just broke 95 and improving quickly, they feel great and perfect to start for old clubs
Mizuno 919 forged. Got em last September after handicap started to move down and ball striking improved. But this was after many lessons, and that is the best investment i feel.
I'm going the opposite direction. I play my Mizuno 221s but I'm also buying and restoring ten and twenty year old Mizuno blades to play along with my modern blades. There is little difference in them until you go back a long way and they're beautiful, feel great, and add a dimension to playing that I enjoy.
You see I tried this mindset, but then I remembered I only had a 7 and 9 iron. That’s when I realized a set of irons would be the single purchase that will actually bring down my handicap Lol
Still rocking my Snake Eyes TC-01s from the early 2000s. Soft, players cavity with grooves that are still good. They were sold through the Golfsmith catalog, which many Americans may remember had great stuff.
My dad has a set of Big Bertha irons from the late 90s. I hit them side by side my JPX800 Forged and they performed pretty similar and felt really good also.
For me... Getting forged irons was a game changer. With game assisting irons, I couldn't feel anything. Had no clue what the club head was doing! Once I switched to CB forged, I learned so much! However, I am an ex-ice hockey player, who is decently athletic. So, this was for my particular case. There could be many players like me, out there! Side note: I did also invest in an at home simulator. This combined with changing my irons, has me hitting fairways and greens much more consistently!
I’ve been playing the original Callaway Fusion irons since they came out in 2004. I love them. I’d like a newer set of irons but I don’t want to change for little to no improvement.
No offense intended but I don't believe that having clubs that are brand new or 10-15 years old makes too much of a difference for an average to worse player. As an example, I don't shoot 90 because I miss hit an older club that would have been a better shot with a new club. I shoot ninety because I duff multiple shots so badly throughout the round that it makes me at best a bogey golfer. The game is still fun. And I don't even slow down the group. Hitting a brand new club four inches behind the ball provides the same result. I have a set of 1999 Ben Hogan Apex Edge and a set of 2009 Taylormade Burners. If you remove all the duffs I would shoot low 80's with either clubs. Just my opinion.
I bought a set of Mizuno Center Flag in great condition and after changing the grips found they were amazing to play. They must have been released in the 80s. I couldn't find any information about them on Mizuno's web site or elsewhere which means I own a rare usable set of brilliant irons I will not be changing in a hurry
Using a set of RSi1 irons. Bought them new. I lost ability to do my job shortly after that purchase. I used golf as a way to heal physically and I am now ready to upgrade. Going to get fitted for a set of P790s this winter
Just changed from Callaway X-14's bought them new 17 years ago, I have had about 10 years away from golf but having just retired time to get going again. I have gone for the Mizuno JPX 921 Forged...mmmm they feel great!
Ben Hogan Apex Plus since 20 years. I have played newer sets from other brands but always come back to these. I play my best golf with these old trusties and the feeling and workability is something I have yet to reproduce with any other club I have tried.
Only been playing a year. My handicap according to Garmin is 32 (I know thats not a gospel figure, or even an impressive handicap!). Initially had a set of Bay Hill irons that I was given by a mate who had them new about 20 years ago. After about ten months or so and my first few rounds I bought a set of Wilson Staff D7 second hand off golfbidder. Took some getting used to and a few experiences at the range made me feel I made a bad choice. But now they're fine for me. Hit a 220yard with my 5i yesterday which I was chuffed with.
I just got my brand new Ping G400s, got a great deal since they are considered a 2 year old club by now. They have Alta Graphite shafts, feels soo good. Forgiving, long but I can easily spin the 7 iron 6,500 or more and I can launch them at 20 or 21 degrees which is good for a 7. I'm a 12 handicap. Really happy with them. I tested the Titleist t 300s, the Cobra f9, the Wilson V6, and the Callaway Mavericks. The g400s had by far the best performance, especially with the graphite shafts.
Current irons are Cobra S3. I had a trackman session and I am ready to upgrade. After analyzing the trackman data I have narrowed it down to Cobra forged tec and Taylormade P790.
I'm playing something called Cantera, purchased in 2001 as a set to get out golfing 1-2X per year. Since then I have added Adams wedges and hybrids, along with an Adams driver. This is the end of my second year playing regularly, and I am still improving with the irons in terms of distance and constancy (I have achieved some consistency in gapping), although consistancy dropped off at the end of the season after shooting a sub 100 round as a result of dropping my back shoulder when striking the ball. I also seem to have two swings, one dead straight, and one dead to the right (I'm a lefty) that I need to sort out. My thinking has been learn to play these better, and then at some point possibly get fitted for some senior irons when distance becomes an issue.
Your spot on I use ping s59s 5-pw red dot and a ping eye2 4 iron for a little forgiveness I play off a 5 handicap but it's because of putting I suck at putting lol
Callaway Big Bertha 1994’s 4-SW original grips and all. In my bag since 2000... never had enough money to spend on a new set of irons because I played so many other sports. Finally getting back into golf and need some new ones.
I’m in my first year, shooting 108 with game improvement irons. Things are just starting to pull together for my game but I’m still thinking a lot about my swing and making little tweaks. My plan is to keep the burner set (and my one upgrade, a Callaway driver) until my swing is consistent and i’m shooting low 90s. Then I’ll open the wallet, get a fitting and buy whatever I shoot best with at that point.
I'm a handicap 54 leftie and I bought seconhanded callaway x16 from 2010. Great irons for my beginners stage, and I will hold them for a long time, but now heading for better handicap . But don't care about my handicap , I just love the game 🏌🏻🏌🏻
Used a set of Ping Eye Two+ for almost 16 years. They are still awesome, I just upgraded basically for some new tech, but those Pings still play awesome, reshafted them for my son and they will continue for years.
Great video, I’m currently using my 40 yr old John Letters Master Mex irons that I had as a junior. I’ve recently started playing again and they still feel and look great, 👍⛳️🏌🏻♂️
Upgraded to brand new mp18s from a secondhand set of mp25s just before the mp20 release. Made complete sense as I saved about £300 for virtually the same clubs
MP20 MB just upgrades from MP32. So soft and accurate. I am 70 and playing from proper tees I am happy with scoring in sub 80. These irons give me an immediate feedback when range practicing.
Agree totally - easy to chase the most up to date equipment and spend what can be significant sums, without really understanding where your swing and strike is in relation to your scoring. My nephew has an old set of irons and strikes them so sweetly, whereas I bought the latest game improvement irons and only saw a difference after working on the swing basics; should have been the other way around!
I have not changed my clubs since 2008. I actually have a mixed bag of Clubs from different manufacturers. Each Club is for a particular distance and as long as I'm able to maintain that aspect of the game then I see no need to change. 70 years old still maintaining a 5 handicap
I play titleist dci 990 since 2001. Love em for distance control and consistency. Just purchased mizuno Mp20 mmc. Will improve w lower ball flight in new irons w more effective shaft from fitting.
I am a 9 handicap I play Wilson DEFY irons. They are so forgiving on bottom strikes, and this is what I need. Hybrids are super easy to use for my slower swing.👍
I changed from some 15 year old Big Bertha to some Wilson D7s and all I wish is that I had the old ones back. I haven't gotten along with these since I got them, esp around the greens. People forget you have to pitch and chip with irons too.
Playing callaway steelhead x-14 pros. Bought a full bag from a workmate Taylor made burner driver and couple of odd wedges for 200 all in including Taylormade tour bag. This was the first year I really took it seriously, thinking I’ll upgrade in a couple of years once my game has improved
Hi, I've been playing Taylormade Burner 2.0 for the last ten yrs, they still work great, lots of forgiveness. A friend let me use his PXG (tour) Gen 2 set and they were out of this world in feel and playability... Didnt think i needs a new set but the fire is lit! :)
Still using my Callaway Razr X Black, new in 2012. This year my handicap has come down from 16 to13 but I know it is my fitted driver putting me in a better place.
Bought some brand new p790s a few months ago. Was playing RAM irons prior from the late 90s. I can’t imagine clubs getting any better anytime soon from my p790s... most likely will have them a long time :)
I've been using the old Ben Hogan BH-5s (2005) since around 2008 and they still do ok. I'm starting to do some research on new set as I'm playing regularly again. This has been very helpful.
Using my Dad's old 1991 Kunnan Bio-Tech irons... I think upgrading might not get me that much of a better score, but I sure won't be working as hard to hit a straight shot!
Still using Mixuno MX23's from around 2005! Over the years I've asked, either in lessons or in the occasional wood or wedge fitting, if I should change the irons. The answer has always been the same - no. I still like the feel, and bizarrely also the fact that they may not be quite as forgiving as a modern irons - I like to feel my mishits. Having said that I am thinking of looking at some new irons in the spring as I increasingly I dislike the level of offset. My tendency is to hit too much from the inside, and the offset sometimes makes me worried about a shank!
Using Ping G2s and feel it’s time for a change as my handicap is coming down because I am playing more often. Was a 9, drifted out to an 18, now back down to a 13.
I've got the Taylormade rocket bladez tour irons had them since they came out. I hit them well only reason I still have them is cost clubs now are ridiculous in price
I’m currently gaming Ping i200 irons so a few years old. I changed from the Titleist AP2’s as I wanted to try the popular Pings. They haven’t been quite as good as I expected and I miss the forged feel. So it’s time to change. Looking at the Srixon ZX7’s or perhaps the Wilson Staff CB irons. Can’t make up my mind tbh..... it’s gonna be down to the testing. Great video guys. ⛳️😃⛳️
I play the Callaway X Forged 18 irons. They are the best feeling irons I have ever played. Even better than my 1956 Ben Hogan Precision irons, which I have played for 40 years
Just switched to Hogan PTx Pro with F2 Recoil shafts from game improvement forged irons because I’m a Hogan fan and handicap is dropping to around 13-14.
Played a Titleist Tour blade (1-PW) from 1986 for years. Just upgraded to MP20 MB this year. Gained a little distance from stronger lofts (about 3 deg.) even being a little older and slower. Tried a few different clubs in between, but there's just something about looking at a blade behind the ball. Love the MP20, but I still bring out the old Titleist blades now and then to practice. I don't think you'll ever find a better club for feedback, even if it stings a little.
Playing Callaway X-22 Tour irons since 2009. I'm thinking about getting a fitting in the spring looking towards a players iron, but one that will give me a higher trajectory and a little more distance.
I just upgraded my whole bag except my driver from black friday sales which includes 2 scotty's from 2ndswing, granted 1 is an old acushnet scotty and the other an older del mar but both for $170ish was a steal
Have my tommy Armour 845s since highschool. 21 years ago. Lol. It works, and I still hit better than most of my friends. I just gave them to my son. And I picked up some Nike sling shot, and back to learning game. Not sure if I will stay with them just yet. We will see.
Mizuno mp4 love them to bits, thinking of swapping out the 3 and 4 iron for something a little more forgiving for next season but last time I played was hitting the 3 iron off the tee like a bullet so not convinced!
I've just upgraded from a cheap onyx box set to mizuno mx23s. I started playing in August. They are 15 years old, mint condition and a great upgrade for me. By 2030 I might be on a 2020 set😂😂
I got fitted for Callaway Mavrik irons in January and because of gapping issues I now carry five wedges, sadly I’m still a struggling 13 handicapper “senior” 😟
Mizuno MP-20. Previously Mizuno MP-5's. I change every 4-5 years. Generally by that time I have a fairly decent burn marks in my P, 8, 6 and 4 irons (I hit them in practice on range).
I'm using the Mizuno Jpx 919 tour. I went from a +25 to +11 golfer in the past year. I feel like the tour will give me more feel and work the ball better to lower my score even more.
Mizuno MP-57s. I love the look over the blade shape and the feel, along with the ball flight. But my favourites being 7i, 9i, and P wedge are getting a little too worn in. it's time for a new set and will defiantly be getting fitted.
I love my Ping Eye 2 irons because I can trust the distance! If I am 165 yards out, I know what club to hit, where the ball is going to go, and where my miss is at. Loft for loft, I have yet to find a better club.
Still playing my 2001 Ben Hogan Apex forged irons. Love them and get compliments often on their look.
Still playing the Ping eye2 set (3i-SW). Bought them second handed in 1996...
I began a playing about two months ago and have been playing with my dads irons from 1988, so excited to get a new set this month😁
Were the mizuno’s worth it?
Been using the Callaway Apex irons. I love how forgiving they are.
Practicing and improving your short game is more likely to improve your scores than a new set of irons I think
You see I tried this mindset, but then I remembered I only had a 7 and 9 iron. That’s when I realized a set of irons would be the single purchase that will actually bring down my handicap Lol
Nah. Really depends on the irons as well. If your going from Wilson’s to APs, or similar upgrades, you’ll notice for sure.
Short game is key. Irons help but won’t see as much of a difference in score
@@smoothcriminal3454 just ordered 7-PW ap3s and 4-6 ap1s.
I’m upgrading from a 7 and a 9 Nike vapor. Hopefully I can shave a few strokes off.
yes. Up and down percentage is critical to scoring. Even the best amateur players hit maybe 8-10 greens
Ping Eye 2’s still hovering around an 8 or 9 handicap.
Playing ping g40, bought a brand new set of Callaway and reverted back to my good old pings, I did upgrade my woods to TM M6s.
Still rocking my Snake Eyes TC-01s from the early 2000s. Soft, players cavity with grooves that are still good. They were sold through the Golfsmith catalog, which many Americans may remember had great stuff.
Was hitting ping g irons this spring picked up p790 more forgiving, distance and I love the look.
A year ago I made the switch from some Mizuno blades to P790s. The forgiveness has improved my game significantly.
P790s ok for high handicap?
I think they would suit a high hc player. If you can try them out before buying then that would obviously be sensible.
Side note: I did also invest in an at home simulator. This combined with changing my irons, has me hitting fairways and greens much more consistently!
15 years of Titleist 690 cb... I keep thinking I want to change but then I go play and can’t imagine liking the new ones better. Love them!
I’ve been playing the original Callaway Fusion irons since they came out in 2004. I love them. I’d like a newer set of irons but I don’t want to change for little to no improvement.
Currently gaming a set of Cobra ss-i irons in 3i-pw. Had them since 2006 in High school. Still in great condition.

Ping g410 - gone from handicap 18 to 12 in the last year. Very happy with these irons.
Got fitted for callaway mavrik pros back in October and have played 4 rounds with them. Absolutely love them.
Currently playing with the good old Ping Eye 2’s, but I just got the Ping 410s (coming in February)!
Just went from Ping i20s and got custom fit for Taylormade P790s! Only played them twice so far but I love them!
Big bertha 2004 - bought these used this year because I just started golfing this year. I hit high 90s as off now.

Just upgraded from an ancient set of spalding pro-flite irons to a set of black dot ping eye2's. Budget irons, quality play.
Your spot on I use ping s59s 5-pw red dot and a ping eye2 4 iron for a little forgiveness I play off a 5 handicap but it's because of putting I suck at putting lol
@@dscwac396 I'm quite the beginner, I haven't calculated my handicap yet, but I average around bogey. Surprisingly putting is my strength.
Callaway Big Bertha 1994’s 4-SW original grips and all. In my bag since 2000... never had enough money to spend on a new set of irons because I played so many other sports. Finally getting back into golf and need some new ones.

Great irons for my beginners stage, and I will hold them for a long time, but now heading for better handicap . But don't care about my handicap , I just love the game 🏌🏻🏌🏻
Ping i200s. Don’t hit them long, but they sure go where I’m aiming. Hanging around 7. Love them.
Used a set of Ping Eye Two+ for almost 16 years. They are still awesome, I just upgraded basically for some new tech, but those Pings still play awesome, reshafted them for my son and they will continue for years.

Im playing Macgregor Mactech NVG2 and they are awesone. Only been playing a little over a year. Started with a Amazon bag set.
Got fitted for the TM psi tours in 2016 and loved them, just recently I managed to find a set of Mizuno 919 tour in my spec.. beautiful amazing clubs.
Same clubs I’ve got love them
I play titleist dci 990 since 2001.
Mizuno MP-60's. Had em since 2007. Just haven't found a need to get new irons yet.
Are your grooves worn out tho?
I have the same clubs, they were hand me downs from my dad back in 2011. I hit them very well, but I just don't have the cash for new sticks.
Just upgraded from an old hand me down set of Taylormade icw11 musclebacks to rsi2 irons. Much more forgiving now with less offset.
I changed from some 15 year old Big Bertha to some Wilson D7s and all I wish is that I had the old ones back. I haven't gotten along with these since I got them, esp around the greens. People forget you have to pitch and chip with irons too.
Hogan Edge 4-PW, bought last year, forged with cavity back and foam behind the face. Cheaper than the big brands and feel excellent.
Been using the Callaway rogue x irons for the past 12months. Loving them. A definite improvement from the basic Wilson set I was using.
Does the ball go a little farther with your new clubs compared to the old Wilson’s?
Playing callaway steelhead x-14 pros. Bought a full bag from a workmate Taylor made burner driver and couple of odd wedges for 200 all in including Taylormade tour bag. This was the first year I really took it seriously, thinking I’ll upgrade in a couple of years once my game has improved

2017 Callaway Steelhead XR, and love them. No complaints.
Taylormade Tour Burners (2008). Never even bothered considering if I needed new ones. Finally in the market
Cleveland CG16, had since 2013. Had a couple of lessons at different clubs, not once did they ask what type of iron I was hitting.
Still playing my Titleist DCI oversized from like 1998. I play so randomly that I have only been thinking of upgrading now.

Just switched to Hogan PTx Pro with F2 Recoil shafts from game improvement forged irons because I’m a Hogan fan and handicap is dropping to around 13-14.
2017 TaylorMade P-770s. I love them!
Also guys hollow and CB are great but around the green forged hands down, they never come off hot.
Taylormade Sim Max. Absolutely love them. I’ll probably use these for at least 10 years.
Just bought a set of PXG 4 TO GAP amazing performance and feel.
Callaway X18's I had them to replace my X14's which were stolen. They still work for me and they have a 3 iron which I love
I still use my X-18's from 21 years ago. Thinking about upgrading and getting a fitting now though due to the age of the clubs and the new technology.
Every 15 years so far 😁😂still have Mizuno MP32’s,. Stopped playing for 11 years and only started again last year.
My dad JUST replaced those and he had a hard time. He loved those!
I loved my MP32’s. wish I still had them playing P790’s currently
I have MP 33’s I think? They have to be 15 + years. No real complaints, but will get something a little more forgiving in the future
They are nice; the mp32s.
Same here started playing again after 12 yrs.... My clubs still my babies
I've just upgraded from a cheap onyx box set to mizuno mx23s. I started playing in August. They are 15 years old, mint condition and a great upgrade for me. By 2030 I might be on a 2020 set😂😂
I got some Dunlop Irons, never could afford to upgrade them but looking to this off-season
A + 25 ! That's the best ever achieved in history and makes you the world's best player by about 14 shots.
Mizuno MP-57s. I love the look over the blade shape and the feel, along with the ball flight. But my favourites being 7i, 9i, and P wedge are getting a little too worn in. it's time for a new set and will defiantly be getting fitted.
Not enough discussion of usage. How many rounds + range balls before a new set of irons should be purchased? Currently playing AP1s.
I love my Ping Eye 2 irons because I can trust the distance! If I am 165 yards out, I know what club to hit, where the ball is going to go, and where my miss is at. Loft for loft, I have yet to find a better club.
Ping G25. Looking to upgrade this year. Really want to feel the ball better so i can tell where my miss hits are.
I play a combo set of Taylor made tour preferred mb/mc 4-P from 2013 or 2014 with KBS R+ shaft.
Still using a set off Ping iSi irons from 96-97. Still work. Cant see myself changing any time soon.
I have a set of Wilson Dfy irons. Half graphite half steel. Around 10 years old. 7 iron is 34 degrees
Mizuno MX23’s
Have had them almost 15 years
Still love them but it might be time
15 years old? Nah if I were u I’d wait another 15
Still rocking my jpx 800 that I bought new from direct golf for £130 in 2012. Still a good iron. Wedges will be my next purchase though.
