    What helps you combat fatigue?

  • @randy4903

    Fatigue is something that I think a lot of people train themselves to ignore, but it really demands to be taken seriously. Being sleep-deprived can cause reaction time and judgement to be impaired similarly to alcohol use. As I am looking at becoming an airline pilot, this is certainly something that concerns me as I weigh this against other career possibilities.

    • @AviatorInspirations
      @AviatorInspirations  4 года назад +3

      Most definitely! Regulators are taking this subject seriously, but as each person has their own tolerance when it comes to fatigue, they are slow to implement strict rules. Ultimately it’s your own judgement that will define safety, so don’t hesitate to become a pilot if you know you will make good decisions, and work in a country where fatigue reporting is taken seriously.

    I spent my short airline pilot career only marginally awake due to the 8 1/2 hour rest period
    Which really was 5 hours.
    ..when transport to/from hotel, getting something to eat, getting up at 4:30 am for 6am flt, etc...were factored
    Goal of flying for an airline met, I left to earn the going wage for human life :)
    Was paid $20K per year to fly 50 souls on board a CRJ in the 2000s.

      I hear you! Regulations definitely have gotten stricter when it comes to rest, so that part that has improved, but sleep deprivation still happens. Did you get out of aviation or find something better for family life?

      How did you survive with 20k a year. That’s really low.

    • @MarcPagan
      @MarcPagan Год назад +2

      @@LordBagdanoff There's a pilot shortage for a reason.
      Regional airlines are paying the price now, and the majors that are fed by them as well.
      United/United Express alone has pulled out of 30+ cities due to the pilot shortage.
      No complaints here, Supply and Demand is a Natural Law that should never be disrupted by governments.

      My first 2 years as a flight instructor I made $15k/year CAD, it was tough. Some companies have crew housing, or if you can live it at home first few years that’s a huge help

      Finally it’s getting worth it to become a pilot, but it takes time to train, so it’ll take a decade for the world to catch up

    Hello Aviator Inspirations, I enjoyed your video and appreciate the very practical information. I will be starting my PPL and then my Aviation Diploma in 2020 and this topic would be the most concerning, as I work a 9-5 job now and for the past 12+ years. I would like to go off-topic and discuss something that is very common on the internet but wanted to ask you directly about the age limit of pilots in Canada. I'm 41 now and will be 44 when I graduate with a commercial licence and aviation diploma. Do you think that I will be able to get hired at a regional such as Jazz or Encore once I get to 1500 hours? I have heard from a local pilot that pilots are spending approximately 2 years at the regional and then going up to AC or WJ, would this be your observation also? I would likely be in my late forties or perhaps even 50 by the time I was going to AC or WJ, assuming I'm at the regionals for 2-3 years. Also, is the mandatory retirement age in Canada for a commercial, passenger airline 67 in Canada if I were to fly only domestic. I have heard that this has been done. Thank you for the great content and I appreciate the Canadian content and info.

      @AviatorInspirations  4 года назад +2

      Thanks for the great feedback! I made a video about starting flying in your 30's & 40's, so check that out. Mandatory airline retirement age is 65, but you can keep flying corporate or charter as long as you keep your medical valid. Currently Canadian regionals are hiring 1000hrs or less due to the pilot shortage, so you most definitely can take advantage of that! Yes you can expect to spend 3yrs at the regionals, but economic times can change at any time and that time can change. Feel free to browse my channel for other career info that mind interest you!

      It’s a popular school. Their reputation is hit and miss, just like any school, you have to pick the one that’s right for you.

      You can learn about some of my journey in my video “aviation is a battlefield”. I followed the modular training path and flew at the boundary bay airport in Vancouver.
