    Lee Chong Wei's points: 17 + 21 + 21 = 59
    Lin Dan's points: 21 + 19 + 19 = 59
    So even though LCW won the last 2 games... both players scored the exact same number of points in this match. I find this fascinating.

      +thatorange08 When your opponent reach 21 first, no matter how many points you score, 2 or 19 is meaningless :)

      Not fascinating at all. It could be that your opponent is reaching 21 and there is no point fighting so you let go the first game.

    I've to say, this is one of the best LCW and LD rival matches.

    • @Walkingshadow1
      @Walkingshadow1 8 лет назад +16

      +Sanpob M Yes. These guys are in a league of their own. When they are both on and focused, nobody in the world can keep up. What a great battle this was, and a great rivalry over the years. LD knows it was people like LCW and Peter Gade who brought out the best in him, and it happened again with this match. AND...now it looks like they could meet again in the semifinals of the Hong Kong Open, but LCW will have to beat Chen Long again first. I hope he does, so we can watch a rematch of this outstanding China Open match.

    • @sanpobyampracha2021
      @sanpobyampracha2021 8 лет назад +2

      +Walkingshadow1 I definitely agree and I hope LCW win against Chen Long as well.

    • @Walkingshadow1
      @Walkingshadow1 8 лет назад +4

      +Sanpob M Well, after barely beating an unknown qualifier in the first roung of the HK Open, Lin Dan got crushed once again, this time by Ng Ka Long Angus from HK. So unfortunately there was no rematch with LCW. But you got your wish: LCW did beat Chen Long in the quarterfinals, after being down 1 game and down 13-18 in the second game no less. Tremendous reversal there: 3 titles in a row, beating CL twice and LD once along the way.

    • @sanpobyampracha2021
      @sanpobyampracha2021 8 лет назад +3

      +Walkingshadow1 Again I agree and I must congratulate LCW for winning 3 consecutive superseries, also LD and CL, since they're both a very good players indeed.

    • @terencedoherty3049
      @terencedoherty3049 8 лет назад +4

      Totally agree. I have been watching the 4 kings for many years now, and I know once they are all gone, it will be a very long time indeed before we see such classic battles again. The last 15 years have been a perfect storm for competitive badminton. We have seen matches that our children and grandchildren will only wish they were alive to see and experience.

    • @utkarshsoni577
      @utkarshsoni577 7 лет назад +3

      +Terence Doherty I think Chen long should be given his due respect which he definitely deserves ....he is legend himself now ...and can be rated 3rd after LD and LCW.....

  • @TheSagen15
    @TheSagen15 8 лет назад +69

    correct me if you disagree but i think that this is the best MS match so far this year. And also i think that this has been the best performance this year from LCW and LD

    • @Walkingshadow1
      @Walkingshadow1 8 лет назад +17

      +TheSagen15 I agree. Lin Dan has looked listless for a long time now, and tends to lapse into a very boring, uninspired type of game that he hopes to win just by his technical shot quality and experience. But that doesn't work well against good players, and recently he got humiliated by Viktor Axelsen (and others). I was thinking he was done, but in this match, he proved me wrong. This was one for the ages, one of the best matches I've seen in a few years. Lin Dan and Lee Chong Wei both need a challenge. I really thought LD would win this match, since he was playing on home soil and LCW has never beaten him in China. Also, when the pressure is on, that's when LD really shines.And he gets maximally motivated for just these kinds of matches. But LCW was just too good too often, and played inspired badminton. LCW lost focus and made some sloppy shots at times, but what he did the rest of the time ranged from great to brilliant. When he plays like that consistently enough in a match and doesn't make dumb mistakes, nobody on the planet can beat him.

    • @Ey3shi3ld
      @Ey3shi3ld 8 лет назад +2

      +Walkingshadow1 I just think the hardest thing for someone who got 5 world champion & 2 olympic title , it's to keep motivation ON . Back on 2008 look how he jump on everything.
      This year hasnt been good for LD it looks he was not motivated except when he played LCW. Because it's like Vegeta & Goku . But look how LCW has been that dominant the last few months (by far #1 in terms of playing ,).
      With new Olympic coming around and specially going to be latest year for LCW & LD ( i guess) They will be back at their ultimate level (LCW already back) . This year will definately look the best for Men SIngle . Because t here is so much this LD & LCW domination so much player can make them trouble . (Chen Long , Axelsen , Jorgensen , , Momota) Even mid top 20 ranking players can take a game on a good day (Chou tien chen , Kidambi , sugiarto , Parupalli)

    • @Walkingshadow1
      @Walkingshadow1 8 лет назад +7

      +Ey3shi3ld Yes, it is hard for LD to stay motivated. But in this match, that was clearly not a problem for him. He was moving and playing and diving and jump-smashing like the LD of old, but with a more disciplined approach that comes from experience and wisdom. But you are right: for the last 6 or 8 months, LCW has been in a class by himself, and can and will beat all opponents---including LD.

    • @Ey3shi3ld
      @Ey3shi3ld 8 лет назад

      great ??? one of his worst . Dude he took some set in thomas cup too against top 200 players L.claerbout and an other guy . He is not extremly disapointed . But it's just like "i kknow i can be the best , i just need the good opponent that will motivate myself to win or Olympic " For LD & LCW it'"s maybe their last year as competitor , that's why except 1 tournament LCW has been absolutly dominating as fuck . He knows that so , he is putting his best performance to have no regret until the BIG BIG Olympic incoming . i hope he won't get injured thats why only wish.

    i enjoyed listening to how Gilian comment about all the players in all the games. Usually i like to listen to these both commentators, but in this match Steen criticized LCW so much, i mean a little too much about LCW cnt make mistake, his attack cant kill the game, his drop shot not sharp...etc... I love both LD and LCW and they are one of the greatest player in Badminton history.. he needs to respect the BOTH of them and be neutral when commenting..

    Steen Pederson the male commentator is a fan of Lin Dan, you can tell how he praised LD on his every match. So annoying.

    • @terencedoherty3049
      @terencedoherty3049 8 лет назад +3

      It's only annoying if all you want in a commentator is to be biased in favor of the player you want to win. If that's all you want, then all you have to listen to is the screaming of the crowd backing your favorite player. If you want the commentator to actually inject intelligent commentary that gives valuable insight into what each player is trying to do, then Steen is your commentator. Actually, he is not biased towards LD, he just recognizes and respects his tremendous abilities, which despite the outcome of this match, rival those of any other player in the world on most occasions. And BTW, I am a huge fan of LCW, but despite that, I totally recognize LD's greatness.

    Brilliant play by both players. Awesome game after a long time. I bet Lin D would have challenged line judge's call at 15-10 up at 1:28:34 if only he had any challenges remaining. It looked IN to me, or at least more probable, even LCW seemed a bit relieved :D and that was the turning point.
    To me, these legends are just celebrities now, of Yonex, no matter they win or lose, we like to watch them in action. I somehow still believe that even Chen Long wont be able to stop Lin D/LCW at Rio.
