Thank you everyone for watching!!! This was meant to be more of a passion project, so it's awesome to see how much its blown up! Too anyone who was herer a bit late, i did cut off the epilogue of the video where i talk about the channel. To sum it up, life happened, and i got burnt out from making videos for a while, especially about palworld. I also felt like i could only really make palworld content on this channel, so i made a new channel and called it DaCodesta, and this one DC Palworld. Will i post only to that one, or both, idk yet. Im still figuring everything out
If haven't already, I highly advise checking out Moon Channel's video on this topic. It takes a deep dive on this topic. Going into all the relevant information and background needed to really understand the reasoning and the backroom politics of Nintendo's lawsuit. Long story short. It is SONY's fault.
@@masterlinktmah yes, because I remember Sony suing Palworld. I watched the video btw- multiple times. The video barely has any legal arguments and quickly goes into conspiracy theory BS. Sony might be a factor, but considering they had already seen Pocketpair and palworld on their radar before the Sony deal, it also means that Nintendo threw an entire lawsuit that could affect the entire gaming industry for years in the span of less than 70 days. He also just says some weird things about Sony in that video, saying that they're in the position Xbox thinks they are right now, and they're in the position that Ubisoft was a few years ago, absolutely absurd statements for anyone to make, let alone a lawyer. Also, barely any legal things are talked about in the video, only at the start. No, it's not a very good source of information on this, especially when you consider the other things that have happened since then.
@@tranquility6789 Yeah, he doesn't talk about legal. Because legal is not a "Why." The video is about the "Why's." Which, I don't know if you were paying attention or not, is what everyone is getting wrong. Massively. Nintendo didn't care a lick about PocketPair and PalWorld until SONY got involved to help PalWorld become the next Pokemon franchise. The Pokemon legal team was even helping PalWorld avoid copywrite infringement. But then shortly after Pocket Pair and SONY get into talks and partnership. BAM. Nintendo starts shit. Oh but that is just "conspiracy theory BS" to you.
Yeah but the game that was copied was a Nintendo game property that is how they got away with it the game mechanics belonged to the primary parent company Nintendo
@@foxfire-rc1rl not until around 2021 when they filed it. Also, idk about a 'small game that never became popular' but ik they definitely didnt invent monster catching.

@@MakoKitten So, in this case it's only in Japan, but as he said in the video, it sets a precedent for it to be done all over the world. Nintendo tried to register these same patents in the US, but they were unsuccessful. They had until October 31st (2024) to appeal, that's why the details of the lawsuit only came out in early November. They were waiting for this results in the US, but fortunately they weren't able to register it there. This will definitely help pocketpair, they have a lot in their favor, the bad thing is nintendo can drag this for years in court and will cost a lot of money.
@DC-Palworld the same thing could be said for comparing Minecraft and terraria. They both have chopping trees, but they're not at each other's throats about it. In fact, both games have splash texts that say to play the other
Intellectual Property in general is only ever a tool for the rich to victimize the poor, seizing concepts for themselves and denying the market the very option to compete. It's the very fundament of monopolistic tactics, and it needs to end.
I really hope the court throws the case out. This really isn't about patent infringement. This is about someone putting a new spin on a monster capture genre that Nintendo never delved into with their games. Nintendo is jealous of the success of Palworld. So yeah... They had no intention of going in this direction with Pokémon. If they win against Palworld, then yes, it could be the start of many MANY more lawsuits from larger corporations to wipe out indie developers. Like I said before. I hope the court sees this and tells Nintendo to kick rocks.
Apparently Sega is planning to sue the creators of MementoMori as well (can't confirm but I heard it in a video). I've already disliked Sega for their treatment of PSO2 so this just further solidifies my disdain for Sega
@@chelsthegameruiner8669 Add konami to that list they are suing over Gatcha mechanics too.... Really odd how two mega companies own Gotcha as a concept but they dont sue each other just small ones.

Ah yes, the old saying "If you sell a man a fish you feed him for a day, if you teach a man to fish you can't sell him fish anymore. I invented fishing. String on a stick? Yeah, that was me. You're not allowed to do that. You owe me 500 million dollars."
This is one of the best quotes for anything I have ever seen. This needs to be framed in gold in the historical record. Well done sir. You made me choke on my lunch.
Not really, it would be, if you want to build a fishing rod with my design you have to pay me first. You are allowed to use patented stuff but have to pay the owners of patents
@47slogra You raise a good point here. That's why I just applied for a patent on legal analogies involving fishing. In two years I will be pursuing retroactive damages from your egregious act of infringement.
As someone who has enjoyed the pokemon games for years, the lawsuit encouraged me to buy palworld, and now I am playing the game with fellow pokemon fans. Palworld is not a pokemon clone. Just because it has the concept of capturing creatures doesn't mean it's a clone. Palworld is a survival game. Pokemon is a sports story. Patenting basic mechanics like mounts is something that shouldn't even be possible. It was obvious Nintendo has been searching for months to find something to sue palworld for, which is honestly kind of disheartening. I'd hope that Palworld's rise in popularity would encourage Nintendo to step up their game, and we would get better Pokemon games. Now I'm extremely disappointed in Nintendo and Game Freak.
Exactly this. Palworld is something I'd considered in the same "genre" as Pokemon, similar to how there are many many MANY farming sim games out there all using similar mechanics. Once I actually played Palworld I realised how different it actually is as a game. As DC Palworld said. I consider this game an evolution and a step forward in game design. It takes some of the core monster catching themes and mechanics and adds it's own unique flavour by throwing in survival type elements, even FPS elements.
_Thank you!_ Yeah, the vibes are totally different. I love my lil' base I created, my little buddies walking around busying themselves with tasks. Jerry The Invader that I managed to capture, too. Its great
@@temperedfox Hmm, I don't think it's quite like that. In terms of the Survival Genre, Palworld Takes A TON from Ark Survival, down to the engram system and building systems. When comparing the two what Palworld adds is some Rimworld style managment toss into it. The pokemon stuff they add is extremely surface level, with a tacked on type system, moves, and bieng in the same style as pokemon. From what I can tell, it's kinda a clone of ark with a coat of pokemon paint on it rather than the reverse. Is that a bad thing? idk really.
@@leedlebob2667 True, although when you dig deep enough, every game can be considered a "clone" of another game or a mashup of different mechanics from different games and even different genre's. What's important to note here, is that each game is made by different companies, building their game up and building on previous ideas. This is what drives the gaming industry forward towards new things. What Nintendo is doing will negatively impact the gaming industry for gamers as a whole as it is trying to tell other people it can't create anything remotely similar to what it considers the "original" of the genre (which we know isn't true as monster capturing games were out before Pokemon, they literally copied other ideas and just did it "better" so came out on top. I would understand if Pocket Pair had hired someone from Nintendo and asked them to re-create their systems using that knowledge. That to me would be wrong as it's directly copying another companies work - whether it's code, art etc that is patent infringement - in my eyes. Palworld created it's own game using ideas from other games to build on and that is NOT wrong in my eyes and shouldn't be something companies can "patent" or prevent. Imagine the if Shakespsear wanted to patent the idea of creating plays so no one else could do it (sorry guys, no one else is allowed to dress up, stand on a stage and act...that's MY idea!) The industry itself would have died out, but instead we have a thriving and diverse theatre industry worldwide. All plays are different in their own ways, but they all build off the exact same concept and systems and therefore can be considered clones from the perspective you gave.
Out of all the patents that's gotta be the most ridiculous for sure. Hopefully I was just misunderstanding it or something, but either way it's crazy talk
@@DC-Palworld Nope, they actually have so many patents that they can literally sue half the industry if they wanted but just choose not to. It's literally crazy and shows that something should eventually be done about this before it turns real bad.
It is illegal...outside of Japan. Japan's patent and copyright laws are assbackwards, like to the point it makes our copyright system in the US look fair and just in comparison. Hell I'm pretty sure this qualifies as Patent trolling which IS illegal in Japan.
@@lunchbox1553 Yep, keep in mind that is the "worst" case scenario. Nintendo can't do ANYTHING to Palworld outside of Japan. And if Pocketpair get the funds together, and move out of Japan, they could re-add the old summon mechanic once they are out of Japan and Nintendo STILL wouldn't be able to do shit about it.
@@the3dluxe53 Anish Kapoor no longer has the blackest black in the world, that honor belongs to Stuart Semple now. and that entire drama around Kapoor patenting Vanta Black is fantastic. It spawned Pinkest Pink and Diamond Dust pigments.
To be fair, Palworld is a clear ripoff from Pokemon without even really trying to hide it. They tested how far they could go without getting a lawsuit, and honestly they did pretty well. But in the end, they had it coming
@@vivizwag No, they didn't have it coming, and it didn't make a clear ripoff of pokemon. It blended elements of multiple different games including Pokemon and Ark, as well as creating their own world, lore , and unique elements to make their own game that is clearly legally distinct enough that Nintendo is jumping through some really sketchy hoops to try to sue over this. Battlefield has guns in it, revolves around shooting other in a 3d environment from a first person perspective. Should Call of Duty sue for being a clear ripoff? Should Medal of Honor sue Call of Duty for being a clear ripoff of a ww2 shooter classic in the first 3 CoD games? Should Wolfenstein 3D sue Medal of honor for being another ripoff of a ww2 fps in a 3d environment? Should DOOM sue all of these games for taking the idea of a FPS and building on it? No, they should not. But if Nintendo wins this lawsuit, it sets the precedent that whoever files the patent first can do this kind of stuff, even if they weren't the ones who invented it.
The good thing about this lawsuit, is that Nintendo is only suing for 60k USD and an end for sales in Japan. However, it is still an awful and greedy thing to do, and I hope PocketPair wins the lawsuit.
If Nintendo wants a monopoly in their country, and it's legal; it's fine. But it's heavily illegal in America. Nintendo in the USA should no longer be allowed to do business until they follow our laws.
The biggest problem with the lawsuit is that the developers of palworld made a game exactly like palworld before they decided to make palworld. They made palworld as a last joke game before they went out of business because people compared their game before palworld to pokemon and Ark with the capture mechanics and crafting and they made that old game before legends arceus
Yep. Craftopia. I want to play it now that I know about it. It's been on my wishlist for ages. Honestly, this is the most recent scummy bullshit from Nintendo and I'm just so over them.
@@MakoKitten Nintindo used to be a great company now it can fade into history and I wouldn't notice. Can't really remember what they have done in the last 15 to 20 years.
Y'all remember the "Nintendo on their way to sue a lower-class family for naming their child Mario" meme? Yeah the fact that this is slowly becoming a reality hurts
This is PRECISELY what I said when I first heard about the lawsuit: it isn't about 'patent infringement' it's about smacking down the competition that actually became a threat.
Imagine the developers of Steeplechase from the Atari 2600 decided to patent the jump mechanic now. They did it first with a jump button. And yes, I did internet research to find the out. An earlier game named Frogs was the first, but it controls more like Frogger.
The thing I've noticed about these patents is that they all refer to spheres. If Palworld were to change the Pal spheres to another geometric shape (cube, dodecahedron, etc.), wouldn't they completely avoid this lawsuit?
As I understand it from some other random youtube video, Nintendo is ruining JAPANESE gaming. The lawsuit was only able to have a single leg to stand on solely because both companies are japanese companies, which a single leg is all you need if your goal is to bankrupt your adversary with lawyer fees rather than to win. Had it gone international, they would have been laughed out of court.
Sega and Konami are already suing mobil games for using GATCHA..... let that sink in for a sec to understand the two companies some how both own the same patent and ARENT attacking each other but Indies instead.
it's funny how the lawsuit was there to throw a shot at Palworld and now even after the changes regarding the patent Palworld is STILL more fun than all Pokemon games.
granted, Pokemon is fun, but if you've played one game, you've essentially played them all bc gamefreak refuses to change up the formula. The only rather unique ones to my knowledge are Legends Arceus, pokemon dungeons, and maybe Lets Go Pikachu/Eevee(not counting Pokemon: Go)
It really is just as simple as "boycott nintendo forever". For every time you give an anticonsumer company a 2nd chance, there's thousands of indie devs you haven't given a first chance too yet. At least when it comes to gaming.
The problem is it won’t happen because people are devoted to games or don’t see the bigger picture. If something like Ubisoft is still getting bought who makes literal slop, how is Nintendo gonna fail when they still make great games unfortunately. Put Pokémon aside, they make awesome games.
I have *thoughts*, so be warned, this is gonna be long. 1. I'd argue that video gaming stopped being an art form when it became just yet another product pumped out to pad bottom lines and to make "a quick buck". 2. If Nintendo wins and large companies use their patents as a cudgel, keeping genres "in house" and making things stagnant, I can see that the stagnancy plus income inequality (and other factors like the proposed tariffs) would lead to consumers choose not to buy as many games because "it's all the same". If I recall correctly, wasn't there a similar stagnancy and video games being kind of same-y leading up to the Video Game Crash of the 1980's? The same crash that led to Nintendo and Sega as we knew them in the 90's? 3. The fact that patents on basic mechanics *have* had a negative impact on the quality of games since the 90's, I feel that video game patents *should* be far more specific. Like instead of being able to patent "monster capture", the patent should be as specific as "capturing monsters in a spherical capsule that a) is recognizable as these designs and b) shrinks upon successful capture of monster". Imagine if no one else could ever make HD-2D games but SquareEnix (though afaik, they're the only company I know of who does). It would suck.
I don’t think video game patents should exist. A concept shouldn’t be able to be patented. If someone does a concept best then they deserve to be more popular.
1. I mean every since EA started churning out sports games, this has been the case for a long, long time for most AAA companies. 2. I'll be honest, I Don't think it matters if Nintendo wins or not. Why? Because cases just like this have been around for almost 2 decades now, this isn't anything new and will likely not change anything in particular. 3. I do agree on this. Patents do need to be far more specific so comapanies aren't forced to patent every basic thing in their games, spefically due to how in japan patent trolling was and maybe still is an issue. Which kinda makes it seem that this is a legal issue on a much broader scale than one would think.
I'd say videogames are still an art form because of games such as Elden Ring, and of course, the indie games which have been carrying the whole media for decades now.
The obvious Elephant in the room is they started to act the Moment Palworld started to show anykind of sucess higher then theyre own Latest Game. Legend of Arceus is known for not getting People hooked on Pokemon, they detect a potential threath, they take it out the moment it shows sucess. Thats my view of a unprofessional Normie. Im having fun with Palworld, and i hope this whole issue wont end in a ugly disaster.
@@Speculector The problem is Arceus shows something else 15Million sales despite every fan basically saying this is the way and buying it doesn't match the dual version games that double the sales with their predatory practices. Nintendo CANT let go of their greed and its consuming them.
Yes, I played every title you've mentioned up until Palworld. And yes, I feel you've said how we all feel with Palworld. What Nintendo did for me? Well, I worked on a Pokemon go account that I used to play with my son and we worked on it for 5 years. One day my son was on a trip and used my account. I used the account later that day and got banned permanently. Now all my son's work when a kid and the times we've spent, kind of like childhood memories for him.. gone. Ive contacted Nintendo with this and explained but they decided the ban will be permanent. So yes, I hope Nintendo Loses the lawsuit and also loses players as well.

That company destroyed most of the games player base with allot of their stupid decisions and how unjustly they have treated them. Wouldn't be surprise if they go bankrupt in the future.
It's actually worse than what you described, mainly for 2 reasons: 1) you don't have to be first to patent something, you just need it not being patented 2) companies will (tbh, they already do) patent everything, from fear of another company patenting it forbidding everyone else from using it They won't use it against everyone, it's meant as a way to avoid someone doing it to them but... What if a competitor appears, does better and you wanna get ride of it? Welo, nintendo answering that question
@Igami_tan the only mechanic that I know of that has only been in the two Modor games was the Nemesis system. Warner Brothers or the developers filed patents on both so they couldn't be used by any other developers. It was an interesting mechanic but a niche one.

@@electrobob992 Worse, they can add a "child" patent to an old patent, allowing them patent something after it was made, to then sue them for infringing a patent that didn't exist previously Which is what nintendo did, all the patents they're using to sue palworld didn't exist before palworld's release
@DavidJohnson-bj5ii yes and no Only japan allowed nintendo patent such broad concepts, that they didn't even invest themself But other companies like EA had done the same with very generic patents too like placing decorations on walls But palworld is a japanese game, and nintendo been saying they want palworld to stop any and all operation in japan Anyway, i hate Nintendo now.

And even if Nintendo wins, the worst case scenario is that palworld will be unable to be sold in japan, but will be in the global market. So either way, Palworld won't vanish, and it is not the end of the gaming industry or even a threat to it. Especially since this has been happening for a long time now.
This is just crazy, Nintendo could literally take down a game because it has a “animal” that you can tame or catch in some way. I’m pretty sure Pokémon wasn’t the first to have this mechanic to catch creatures and then they fight. So pal world shouldn’t be taken down for this reason.
Nope that is exactly right, Ultraman from 1966 had the concept of Capsule Kaiju which behaved exactly like pokeballs, now ultra man was a TV / comic series not a game, but the point still stand Ultraman has the concept first and nintendo quote on quote STOLE their idea and put it in a video game. Exactly, I've always compared pal to ark because that was the game pal felt closest too. Everything they are suing pal for you can do in ark so where does it end?

@@LazyConqueror Unfortunately they would likely argue that the "throwing" mechanic originated within the first pokemon games where you "threw" a ball to catch them.
They won't, because Ark doesn't feature the same kinds of creatures that would be seen as 'imitation' pokemon like Palworld does. Plus these patents aren't used as liberally as they would be elsewhere. They're meant to be used as a deterrent rather than as a weapon, Japan's gaming industry doesn't like stepping on each others' toes so they made all these patents so more signify 'hey, this this happens to be our shtick and you're starting to encroach on it' than as 'we own this concept and no one else can use it ever'. The patents are specific like this entirely because they're meant to just signify each company's gimmick in their games.
I wouldn't say that in absolute in terms of patents. In the case of basic game features however I agree. That's like claiming exclusive ownership of a writing trope. Ridiculous

I'll be honest, I don't see how this particular lawsuit will destory the gaming industry, becasue cases like this have been around for decades. Like the earliest one i can remember is Sega Vs. Fox which is almost 2 decades old now.
So i'm trying to look up patent laws and i feel like the patents listed by this lawsuit shouldn't have been made to file. For example 1). Catching a creature in a capture item in a 3D open space was not done by Pokemon first, this was actually done by Craftopia first which came out half a year before Legends Arceus, the patent said "Capture Item" and does not say what shape or state the item is in. Patent shouldn't apply here especially with how vague the patent is in it's description, which was also CHANGED months after Palworld came out. 2). Riding Mountable creatures has been a game mechanic for over 30 years in both 2D and 3D environment gaming mechanics. This one shouldn't even have been considered for patent, did the patent office do ANY research before patenting this mechanic? 3). Inventions or innovations that are not immediately patented and are part of public knowledge cannot be patented, it's the law so that no one can profit from innovation already known to the public.
and the fact that palworld was known about for 3 years prior, cause they werent exactly quiet in japanese media about the developement of the game on unity for 3 years. I recently started playing again after about a year because the new expansions looked neat. I must say PocketPair's attempt to comply with some of these patents actively make the game worse. You can no longer throw the pal spheres to give them direction at a distance. No tossing them at trees or rocks or your freezer. They always awkwardly appear at your side. You need to be right next to whatever job you want done. That being said, it's still leagues better than any Pokemon game.
I'd just say screw you Nintendo and use another geometric shape, like a square, or a triangle, or hell, an icosahedron. That'll certainly get around that patent
Or put them in anything but balls. Palworld isn't even like pokemon .. its more like ARk. Ark packs up their dinos in cryo pod things. Palworld is taming animals, base building, having the animals work for you, guns, and raids. None of that is pokemon, its Ark.
The best way to fight back against this is to not buy Pokémon products. Show Nintendo that we won’t support their stranglehold by voting with your wallets
At least the US Patent office was at least smart enough to say your patent was to board and deny them. Hopefully the Japanese court will see this deny Nintendo the win and change it so patents have to more specific, and some totally new.

If a pokemon fan has any merit they would love the added variety of different creative voices other than Nintendo gamefreak being in the monster catcher genre

Palworld surpres them in that point by a lot, the word is beautiful, the grafics look good, even the catch-ing design is better.
This is simple, if palworld cannot freely develop and sell in a global market without pokemon feeling that they own the monster tamer game genre, Nintendo needs to be sued by all the prior tamer game developers.
@@andrewmcmillin Im simpler words. You don't need to invent it first. You just have to patent it first. One person creates ball. A person that saw it and patented the ball, now he owns the patent for ball.
@@andrewmcmillin In simpler words, You don't need to invent it first. You just need to patent it first. 1st person invents the ball. 2nd person saw it and patented the ball. 2nd person now owns the patent for ball and can sue 1st person.
Your take on this is perfect. The ability to patent basic mechanics like riding a mount? Nonsense. It's absolute nonsense. I wish there was some way for the general public to challenge a patent based on it being fundamentally stupid. 😅
Haha glad you enjoyed the take. I think us challenging them would be super interesting. We the people v Nintendo on the basis on stupid Patents. What a headline that'd be
Reminds me of a story I heard somewhere. Some company decided to patent the arrow. Not a stylized arrow, but the mechanic of an arrow floating above the players head pointing you towards your goal.
@@gabrielleisabellawilinski8951 that was crazy taxi , y eah they did patent the navigation arrow about player head or center there of . I know there is something like expiration date on patent ... there another one that got patent was the mini game during loading screen , now we dont need it anymore and the company that patent it , is like so small now cant even dent the lawsuit even if it tried.
@@IaeyanElyuex Not really. Most companies will keep protecting their patents even if they liquidate everything else. Going broke tends to make them more aggressive about it. That's the very fear driving Nintendo to go after this.
EA/The Sims has a famous patent of not allowing you to grab and drag features in character creation that is why all sim competitors (even all games) have sliders in character creation (except The Sims 4) which is very frustrating
Actually they legally don't have a right to do this because they pat in the stuff after the game has already been made They basically confiscated something they didn't actually create
This is all taking place in Japan, and you gotta remember, patents work *very* differently over there than they do here. Here, yes, Nintendo would lose once that fact came to light. In Japan it really doesn't matter when something was patented. Would love to see Nintendo lose though
They have the right in Japan. Which is where the lawsuit is. They filed the patents and because no one opposed them they were approved and now that they're approved they're using the patents to sue PocketPair.
There is apparently a loophole with the patent for Japan. While Nintendo were filing for it to be official, it technically was in effect during the pending time, so it can still affect PocketPair because Nintendo was in the motion of having the patent official before Palworld’s release
There were cases where patent protection failed due to patent holder not protecting their patent in court against multiple other users who still weren't sued. Thus, patent gets revoked, and I believe that's something that can happen here.
In future we see more lawsuits from the different game companies that are suing each other regardless what is the reason. This is just greedy path of the companies like Nintendo. They also lose respect of the players during the time.
Its like that saying "you cant win if you dont play" Nintendo isnt interested in winning, theyve won in the past and instead of letting other people take a crack at it, just shut down all the competition so they're forever the winner..
Palworld literally lit the fire in me to start making my own monster catcher game. I hate how the Pokemon games have become absolute slop today, and this game gave me the fire to make something I myself would want today, and hopefully others will too. The fact Nintendo is doing this is terrifying for everyone.
YES, DO IT. Even if Nintendo wins over palworld, they won't be able to do the same thing outside of japan, so if other games like Palworld are made, but are not created by the hands of a japanese studio such as Pocketpair, Nintendo won't be able to do anything but cry about it, since outside japan they hold no power. And the more games like this, the more impossible it will become for Nintendo to even try keeping track!
And the funny thing is - Starbound exists. About ten years prior to Palworld's creation of course. And it *too* has the monster-catching mechanics similar to those two mentioned games - knock em' to low health, throw a capture pod, send them out to fight others.
The sooner more people realize Nintendo are one of the shittiest corporations out there, the better. Grew up loving Nintendo, which is why I hate them so much today.
As someone who creates content only from Pokémon (In Spanish) but who also has played around 150 hours in palworld I can confirm it has never been sadder to be a Pokémon fan. The old games are recieving so much praise now precisely because that is when they had that "heart" that you talked about. Heart they are now trying to extract from other companies because they can no longer find it. I love Pokémon/Nintendo, but some actions aren't forgivable...
We need to get the message to Japan honestly. The Vocal minority there think America hates palworld and they have laws that allow Nintendo to sue anyone that disparages them in japan. We need to show them Nintendo is EVIL. They think Nintendo helps Indies so much and that nintendo allows fan games(despite the Obvious) We need to Blast Japan with the truth.
The way to fix this is to vote with your wallet. I want quality Pokémon games as much as the next guy. But asking for them won't work. We need to show these money-driven businesses that poor work and petty action will result in withholding of business. It's simple economics.
It won't happen coz of the precedent it sets. Nintendo would have to sue hundreds of other game Devs and studios because the 'patent' ambiguously describes actions in multiple other gaming franchises. If this goes through, it'll open a can of worms that will end up seeing games such as Ark or even DayZ having to alter their products at the least
If Pocket Pair were based in the US, the case would have had a chance, but Japanese law serves only the biggest corporations, and there is no room for argument; their only recourse, as much as it is one, is to completely change the mechanics in contention and then patent _everything_ to protect themselves from future abuse. Waiting with bated breath for Nintendo to sue Square Enix for being able to ride tamed monsters on land, in the air and in the water in Dragon Quest Monsters Joker 3.
4:02 - Seeing as WoW was mentioned. I'm just gonna say it.... The first Creature Collector to implement a SkyRiding style system with their creatures will win the Genre. That shit is soo fun. Now imagine if they make it so you can seamlessly transition between Land, Sea & Air. Imagine nose diving out of the sky into the ocean & transition into a SeaRiding style system, then boosting back & leaping out of the water like a dolphin but having the option to transition to SkyRiding while in the air or let gravity take the reins & return back the SeaRiding. Ooof! Why the Fuack has no one done this yet?
With pocketpairs success I hope that they can fight some of these claims in court and set precedent that the legal bindings of gameplay patents are unethical and not healthy for the consumers and overall industry of gaming. That is fantasy and wishful thinking but I believe its a possibility though not probable.
I hate patents myself, they stifle innovation. Hear me out though. At the beginning of Palworlds life, Nintendo basically sent a message to all the Pokemon fans pretty much saying "We know the game exist, we knew before you knew. Stop telling us to take legal action!" Basically Nintendo didn't care. They are taking legal action now. For what, copyright like everyone expected? No. Patents. Palworld already showed they were gonna have these mechanics in the game when they released the trailer so, why would Nintendo do a patent lawsuit(which we learned recently, they only want 5-10mil Yen which is about equivalent to 66k in the USA) and to stop Palworld from selling the game? Why would they only want such a small amount? So it's not about the money. Many games have these mechanics and Nintendo didn't care. By the evidence shown, they clearly aren't after Palworld. So who is it? Answer: Sony. This is Nintendo v. Sony. If Palworld and Sony team up and make Palworld Entertainment, Nintendo is pretty much gonna go out of business. Pokemon is probably the best selling franchise for them. Sony makes about 4x the money Nintendo does. Sony with all their graphics and tech, Nintendo can't compete. They don't have the money or tech. In a lot of Sony and Microsoft games there are DLCs, Microtransactions, Battle Passes, etc. I don't see that much of those things in Nintendo games(And when they do have them, it's usually decent DLCs with extra content and not a bunch of cosmetic crap that could've just been in the game on release). So let me ask you this question: Which would you rather? 1) Nintendo winning and potentially maybe other big companies doing patents(which outside of Japan, it would be VERY hard to patent mechanics like this)? 2) Palworld/Sony winning and Nintendo goes out of business, and now all the DLCs, Microtransactions, Battle Passes, etc. are here to stay and Sony basically has a monopoly over the entire gaming industry?
Sony and Pocketpair pairing up would not put Nintendo out of business, Pokemon is the highest grossing media ip in existence, also Switch exclusives outsell Playstation exclusives.
The craziest think is the fact that they even succeeded in patenting riding mounts cause literally everyone and their mothers did that shit first. hell. Literally the first person to ride a horse hundreds of years ago did it lol. Its not an original idea nor is it even novel. They literally cannot have a patent on that and yet somehow they do. Absolutely insane.
pokemon doesn't have claims to the capture, to the riding mounts, to NONE of this, plenty of other games have done it before the patents were made, and some like anything pokemon resembles tbh, was STOLEN by nintendo, not INVENTED by them back in the day, they are simply a REALLY REALLY dangerous precedent that if not stopped will majorly fuck the industry, IF this shit passes and so far it's passing, (look at the change to how bals work that palworld did recently...) in the immediate what will happne is that NOBODY but nintendo will be allowed basically to make pocket monster games, then other big evil corps like them willget the same idea and we'lle ventually jsut have ONE shooter, ONE rpg ONE of this ONE of that, and because NONE has competition, they'll be stagnant masterpieces of mediocracy, which, quite honestly is what nintendo pokemon games ALREADY are, we've been asking for what pokemon arceus/palworld do for decades now, we've had the tecnology for decades, nintendo jsut didn't give a shit, and it shows cos arceus could be much MUCH better than what it is and should be given the money nintendo has.
@@MakoKitten I think ur forgetting warner bros's nemesis system.... if anything unfortunatly.. "americans" might have been the ones that likely gave way to this awful practice taking place, nintendo's making it much MUCH worse and maybe streamlining it but i'm sorry americans didn't/don't do better, there's many evils in the gaming industry as of lately and they are kinda everywhere
Its funny that nintendo patented switching mounts. All of their patents are just so they can keep an "original" idea, when it was never original to begin with. This is just a basic case of playground bullying but for grown men whos ego's are so inflated to the point that they wont accept that someone used their idea in a better way. Nintendo has lost its purpose over the years and they've gone from a company who did it for the community, to a company who just did it for the money instead. Sure they put out good games but beyond that, they make a console thats overpriced as it is and they kill peoples childhood's by cracking down on emulators for older pokemon games and such. It's a sad display of a once beloved company becoming just like every other soulless development chain.
and I'm pretty sure that nintendo has a lot of petty lawsuits like the palworld one under their belt. Could be wrong but last time I checked, they had quite a few patheic ones.
@@mynameisbadvr1061 there is the White Cat project lawsuit over Touchscreen joystics and isometric views after Dragalia lost was a massive flop and they were mad a competitor to the point they FABRICATED a whole fake patent that the patent office confirmed WAS FAKE but SMS ran with it like wild fire to damage Colpol's image. Literal Mafia tactics.
Nintendo fans can just go play nintendo stuff. Stop being mad that they cant make a decent game for you. Don't hate others for having fun when you can't.
2030. Undertale was banned in all first world countries due to similarities to the Nintendo Property "Mother". Fans were outraged, but legally, it was Nintendo's 'right' to do so. Ultrakill was next. Bethesda, using its ownership of "Doom" shuts down all other first person shooters. They claim they did it first, and they moved to patent first person controllers, usage of firearms, and many other basic things in video games. Crash Bandicoot was crushed by Nintendo, as was Sonic the Hedgehog. EA patented 'ball sports' and all professional athletes that played them have been executed in the town square. Palworld isn't live service. It's early access, and eventually it will be a full product. We have paid for a copy of a video game, and we aren't paying a subscription, or buying cosmetics. THERE IS NO CONSISTENT MONEY STREAM TAKING MONEY FROM NINTENDO. Maybe if it was live service, I'd be a little less frustrated. But Palworld makes money because it's a GOOD GAME. That's all there is. Nintendo can't make one, so instead of trying their hardest, they use their big, gross, wrinkly thumbs to squish anything that might make them look like they don't do anything worthwhile. Absolutely disgusting. And I genuinely hope that Nintendo gets more than a slap on the wrist for abusing stuff like this, although we know they won't. Can't wait until Mario's copyright expires and we get some absolute banger bullshit.
Fun fact: Some of these patents were filed months after Palworld's release, meaning the mechanics being challenged in this lawsuit are what we call "grandfathered mechanics"-they existed before the patents were created. This makes the lawsuit questionable at best, and potentially illegal. This situation highlights Nintendo’s apparent disregard for competition, targeting a company that made a dent in their sales despite their own massive success. It seems like Nintendo is more concerned about minor competition rather than focusing on improving their own games. Take the open-world Pokémon games, for instance. Despite their potential, they feel lifeless, often showing a limited number of creatures on screen-possibly due to being locked at 30 FPS. The same criticism applies to certain Zelda games, which, while iconic, still seem restricted by outdated technical limitations. These limitations lead to worlds that could feel more alive and engaging if the games weren’t so constrained. At the end of the day, I might’ve sided with Nintendo if their lawsuit had more merit. But suing over such petty matters just feels like unnecessary corporate bullying.
This lawsuit, technically, cooks Nintendo. Going after Palworld was already a sign that they are already weak and just screamed they couldn't MAKE a Pokemon game everyone wanted: minus the guns. Using the whole patent is far more dangerous territory, evem if they win. That means no holds are barred, people who hold patents will go after indie developers, studios, those who make the money will either demoralize and destroy top talent they ignored and the fact people HAVE backlogs, will play games to outlast companies and fans will play those games to outlast Nintendo. People have seen Boycotts do work, Nintendo is not the only game in town(pun intended). What they need right now is a reality check. Win or Lose against Palworld: they lose in the eyes to the rest of the community and the world. What is Justice in Japan, does not mean its justice to everyone else; its an insult, a disgrace, a dishonor.
What is worse is that Once the indies are gone you sure as hell know the Piranhas will still smell all the blood in the water. Mutually Assured Destruction.. and the Mega Corps are already Flooding the legal system in japan. Indies and Doujins makers are being sued left and right the whole industry is starting to crawl and slow to a full stop even in production anime are being effected. Sega and Konami are suing small mobile games for Gatcha as a concept with two patents that basically say the same thing.
The best pokémon experience I've ever had is in Pixelmon on Minecraft. It was a red and blue silver and gold server The map was exactly the same with the story and everything but we had a real economy. Palworld reminds me a lot of how Pixelmon played.
Good video. Nintendo has lost me as a customer for good. This is the last straw for me from all their anti-consumer, monopoly driven disgusting behavior. Im a big fan of Mario and Zelda, But from now on I'm just gonna sail the seven seas and play N games somewhere else. I will fully support PocketPair and Palworld any way I can. I've had enough.
I completely get where you're coming from-it's hard to keep supporting a company when their actions feel so anti-consumer. Mario and Zelda are amazing franchises, but it’s frustrating when the company behind them seems more focused on protecting their dominance than supporting their fans. We can only hope they see the errors of their way one day
Yes!!! Sega is a great example of what TO DO. I actually just watched a video about Sonic P-06 which is the fanmade remake of the less than desirable Sonic 06 talking about this exact thing.
@@emeraldwind4897 Not defending Nintendo here, but Sega only encourages fan games because they can barely make their main mascot function properly. And this is coming from a Sonic fan lol.
By Nintendo's line of logic, the rightsholders for Ghostbusters could take Nintendo to court because pokeballs are too close to the ghost containment units.
So to update everyone on things me and some friends play and stream palworld constantly and as fellow indie devs we decided to look into this lawsuit and the patents involved so here's some news you can spread to help further understand this ongoing problem. Note A: This lawsuit is only relevant to the Japanese gaming market, even if won the game can still technically be sold in countries outside of Japan. Note B: The lawsuit couldn't transfer to the EU until well after considering those patent rights are now being held until the end of this debocle Note C: There is a good chance that Nintendo won't be able to win this lawsuit as after translating a lot of Japanese Patent Law it turns out that the patents they're going after palworld for were also Ill obtained, there was criteria that was overlooked and if re-looked at would almost guarantee rejection of patent approval. All this being said we all highly encourage everyone to not only do your own research but to also spread word on the lawsuit and why it's still a major threat to the gaming industry as a whole.
If the lawsuit goes through and they win, Stop investing in Nintendo. There are so many alternatives now a days compared to back in the day. I know I personally plan to sell my nintendo account and my switch if the lawsuit is in their favor. As much as I H A T E consoles. Xbox would never stoop this unfathomably low. This makes the Xbox 360 red ring of death look like the golden age of gaming.
I haven't bought anything from nintindo for 20 years. They have been left behind because they dont release innovated games anymore except the new recent Zelda.
as you said at the end with us needing to call out these evil practices, that's exactly what we need to be doing, take Bethesda as an example, I LOVE Bethesda games, they hold a special place in my heart as some of the first settings I got deeply invested into after getting into gaming because of that I'll continue to buy Bethesda titles but with that comes the willingness to call out some of the corner cutting in major areas and when they pull things like releasing a game breaking update just before the release of a hugely anticipated (and directly mentioned by Bethesda prior to the update when showcasing community works) mod and then when trying to fix that update releasing an even bigger game breaking bug and not touching the game for who knows how long at this point, I'll fully admit that was a massive dick move. you can be nostalgic for something and continue to support it while also wanting better and not being quiet about it, don't be afraid of calling out poor game design, poor performance, bad writing, etc. and please for the love of actual communication don't just instantly label something as things it very well could not be, constructive criticism can go a long way
The second patented mechanic is a core mechanic in Ark Survival. If they go after them and win for that, several games would be forced to just shut down. Frankly, if this actually passes, I'm all for revolution against Nintendo. I have already stopped buying nintendo products after the lawsuit started.
I 100% agree with this. People need to wake the fuck up and realize Nintendo is no one's friend they don't care about you. They rather profit off of you than listening to their fans. I always knew they were bad but not so soulless to the point where they stifle competition and that surprised me.. On top they don't let players play the game how they want by patching bugs that enhance the experience or make the games fun. That part there is why I don't think I will get anymore of their games.
We should band together and make the wall of PIRATE assets. a Pokemon Maker engine that is owned by NO ONE and fully opensource. All pokemon are built in and we keep growing the assets from fan games, Keep making more Engines the Mario maker the Zelda maker and so on. Make so Nintendo cant take it all down.
Like i say if Nintendo wins for ruined my favorite game I WILL DECLARE WAR AGAINST NINTENDO for not buying their products for life!!!! I love Pokemon and Nintendo games. But I don’t like Nintendo at all because of this i hope we win is not palword against Nintendo its us this is a threat!! Patient infringement should not be a law!!! Is a monopoly
In Ark, we have to knockout Dino’s to tame them, then we use a Cryopod to store the Dinos and can throw them out ride them, etc. Same mechanic except the taming part.
This will 1000% ride on the judge at hand. Will the judge have the foresight to see that the patents were far too broad? Or will he just be a douche and side with the corpo?
Personally I'm not overly too worried at the moment with Pocketpair/Palworld, they've already released their biggest update to date, and I'm having a blast all over again playing the game from the beginning in hopes to get to the new region eventually. Also, I'm certain there's more than just that one patent about using riding mounts...which is obviously ridiculous itself as many games have done this mechanic way before Pokemon started doing it, even before their very first game... And think of it this way, with this and the other patents, if Nintendo gets away with something like that, other gaming companies can then use the same tactics and come after Nintendo...it will dawn a dark era of gaming which companies will go after each other, and make their games stagnant while they try and avoid copying even the most simple of mechanics to avoid a lawsuit...which is just impossible at this point as games continues to evolve and branch out... The companies I'm sure are just waiting to see how this lawsuit goes like sharks, waiting for the chance to take a bite out of Nintendo.
Actually, it's like the patent of the nemesis system from Shadow of Mordor. Because of that patent, no other game has even tried to replicate this mechanic, though it's epic
Guess somebody needs to sue Nintendo for restricting creative expression and threatening and monopolizing over other game developers, there is always a counter argument that deserves equal say against power-hungry greedy mega corporations.
Probably a good reason to sue. I think Apple got sued just for making it harder for competitive phone companies so to scare the entire industry of gaming by trying to patent fundamental game mechanics, I'm sure that would fly
Actually, boycotting them would be the best option. Big companies answer to ONE thing... MONEY. If their share prices drop because people aren't buying their crap, threats of lawsuits from investors go up and the company ends up in a bigger situation then they would have had they actually spent time to R&D better games from the start. It takes a while, but that's only because not everyone is hearing about it at the same time. The more people know about the problems, the faster people hop on board of their own accord. The risk of boredom can be great, but the investment has paid dividends many times so far for those willing to just "play something else" until the company realized how badly they messed up. We don't have to take the company on directly, we just don't interact with anything they do for a while and those with money at stake will do all the work for us. Use their own rules, laws and regulations and investors (money) against them. It's not the most fun thing to do and there is the risk of boredom if we do (which is nothing nowadays) but if we don't, the problem just remains and eventually boredom will still strike anyways even though they are making a new game every year. It will stop being fun on its own because it got stale and do you think the company will change?... NOPE. They will keep coming out with the same stale crap with even crappier gameplay because people will still buy it again and again like an addict as they hope the Next Installment will be better EVERY, Single, TIme. Tell me that doesn't sound like "Catch the Dragon" in some ways. "Just a little more" and you might just get that satisfaction right? They are just like casinos. They "help" lobby laws in their favor and have put BILLIONS of dollars into doing so over the last couple decades (all corps, not just nintendo). They play on addiction HARD so that you keep coming back every single time. They know the masses will and they make games accordingly. That is how they make their money and gain investors. That's all they care about and you are just a minor piggy bank personally, while collectively we have more money combined then them... And they know it. They are too big and are nothing but cancer in the long run. They do not care about us and never will. They put "Just enough" effort into things now to keep you interested "just enough" to take your money every year. Let's stop doing that. Let's vote with our wallets. We will have to get this kind of info EVERYWHERE to get people on board and it will take time, but this video right here is perfect and well said as a pokemon and palworld enjoyer. I don't think it could be said much better than this. If we can get video's and info like this in front of as many people as possible, the chances of companies copying nintendo's business trends would never be attempted PROVIDED these companies got to see WHY they shouldn't. If Nintendo lost 10%, Hell even 5% of their stock price because of a world wide boycott, That would send even BIGGER shock waves thorugh the gaming industry as even 5% is worth BILLIONS in market cap. This is a personal attack against all of us because they think the customer is so addicted, they will maintain the Status Quo as is and never attempt to "Wait for things to get better". This is a direct challenge to our self control and willingness to fight for better. I say, Let's show them that screwing with us is never a good Idea.
Nah nintindo is the past. They can't innoate anymore and they can't keep up with gaming trends. I don't understand how they didn't go bankrupt 30 years ago. I guess their mobil market kept them afloat.
Yeah i agree especially when they shut down nintendo online eshop that people bought digitally back in the wii/u/3ds days all the games that you owned are gone that's a high way robbery imo. We need a law on game persevervation. People should look on the dark side of business nobody could get every game. And I'm a hoarder I don't like to spend much unless there's a sale.

They were waiting for this results in the US, but fortunately they weren't able to register it there. This entire lawsuit seems like a kindergarten playground argument. "It's mine" vs "I had it before you, it's mine" It's just stupid
Completely agree. Thats why patenting game mechanics feels weird and gross.
@DC-Palworld the same thing could be said for comparing Minecraft and terraria. They both have chopping trees, but they're not at each other's throats about it. In fact, both games have splash texts that say to play the other

I really hope the court throws the case out. This really isn't about patent infringement. This is about someone putting a new spin on a monster capture genre that Nintendo never delved into with their games. Nintendo is jealous of the success of Palworld. So yeah... They had no intention of going in this direction with Pokémon. Ah yes, the old saying "If you sell a man a fish you feed him for a day, if you teach a man to fish you can't sell him fish anymore. I invented fishing. String on a stick? Yeah, that was me. You're not allowed to do that. You owe me 500 million dollars."

This is something AI could never replicate
If anything, gameplay wise Palworld is more similar to Ark Survival Evolved than anything Nintendo ever produced.

It is illegal...outside of Japan. Japan's patent and copyright laws are assbackwards, like to the point it makes our copyright system in the US look fair and just in comparison.

I think the most that can happen is palworld becomes unavailable in Japan and then Nintendo can't do anything.
@@lunchbox1553 Yep, keep in mind that is the "worst" case scenario. Nintendo can't do ANYTHING to Palworld outside of Japan.
This lawsuit is pure lawfare of a fat cat trying to throw its weight around.
You're absolutely right. It's disgusting behavior honestly

I guess it was never really just a meme
Nintendo was already doing pretty horrible stuff back then, hence why that meme was born. But yeah real life imitating art and all that.
They about to go after Assassins Creed 2 for Mario saying “It’s a me, Mario!”
Hopefully they won't sue the family of Robin Williams since his daughter is named Zelda
It really isn't 😅
This is PRECISELY what I said when I first heard about the lawsuit: it isn't about 'patent infringement' it's about smacking down the competition that actually became a threat.
This is ridiculous, imagine someone patent the jump button because it was the first.
It would be INSANE. Most games now adways use the jump button. It would be atleast 60-80% of the gaming industry.
Ummm...why do you think the buttons are all different on PS & xbox & Nintendo's controls? They literally did Patent those.

Yes, it's why no other capturing game has used spheres or sphere like objects.
Nintendo? Nah it's all the large japanese companies that make games. Maybe not even that, but the system itself plays into all of this.
it's funny how the lawsuit was there to throw a shot at Palworld and now even after the changes regarding the patent Palworld is STILL more fun than all Pokemon games.
granted, Pokemon is fun, but if you've played one game, you've essentially played them all bc gamefreak refuses to change up the formula. The only rather unique ones to my knowledge are Legends Arceus, pokemon dungeons, and maybe Lets Go Pikachu/Eevee(not counting Pokemon: Go)

Not to mention the patents started after Palworld was around
Patents shouldn't apply to gameplay mechanics. That just limits gaming. Period. Art doesn't limit the use of colors.
It really is just as simple as "boycott nintendo forever". For every time you give an anticonsumer company a 2nd chance, there's thousands of indie devs you haven't given a first chance too yet. At least when it comes to gaming.
Very true. At the end of the day, money talks
The problem is it won’t happen because people are devoted to games or don’t see the bigger picture. If something like Ubisoft is still getting bought who makes literal slop, how is Nintendo gonna fail when they still make great games unfortunately. Put Pokémon aside, they make awesome games.
Unfortunately, pokemon is literally one of the most profitable franchise and it trancends the pokemon games itself.
In the case of pokemon... the games aren't the issues. The animes, the plushies and the goodies are.
@@HylianCasual I thought it was the opposite, unless you mean in terms of income. I enjoy the merch the games suck.
@@Speculector The problem is Arceus shows something else 15Million sales despite every fan basically saying this is the way and buying it doesn't match the dual version games that double the sales with their predatory practices. Nintendo CANT let go of their greed and its consuming them.

I used the account later that day and got banned permanently. Now all my son's work when a kid and the times we've spent, kind of like childhood memories for him.. gone. That company destroyed most of the games player base with allot of their stupid decisions and how unjustly they have treated them. Wouldn't be surprise if they go bankrupt in the future.
It's actually worse than what you described, mainly for 2 reasons:
1) you don't have to be first to patent something, you just need it not being patented
2) companies will (tbh, they already do) patent everything, from fear of another company patenting it forbidding everyone else from using it
They won't use it against everyone, it's meant as a way to avoid someone doing it to them but...

I know man the office that patented those 3 mechanics that Nintendo is sueing for are dumb. What we're they smoking, drinking, and thinking!?

But ah yes, you want Palworld to fall because some guy on Twitter claimed to be an official artist for Palworld and was supposedly told to copy creature designs, this artist in which provides no evidence of ever having a presence even close to Pocketpair and *especially* deletes those tweets later on.
Oh, you want the game to fail because the CEO of Pocketpair **supposedly** said that he doesn't like Pokemon?
Simply... absurd why people would want Pocketpair to fail.
If a pokemon fan has any merit they would love the added variety of different creative voices other than Nintendo gamefreak being in the monster catcher genre
I've always been under the mindset that pokemon having a competitor would put pressure on them to make better games, thus being a net positive for pokemon fans, but I guess some don't see it that way.
@@DC-Palworld nah bro, Nintendo is just too lazy to make something new and inovative and just make rip-off after rip-off and people only buy it out of nostalgia. Honestly, I'd be ashamed too to be a bilions worth company and release a game with such a bad graphic in 2024. Palworld surpres them in that point by a lot, the word is beautiful, the grafics look good, even the catch-ing design is better.
This is simple, if palworld cannot freely develop and sell in a global market without pokemon feeling that they own the monster tamer game genre, Nintendo needs to be sued by all the prior tamer game developers.
funny thing is that shit-tendo patents those things after palworld was released

@@IaeyanElyuex Not really. Most companies will keep protecting their patents even if they liquidate everything else. Going broke tends to make them more aggressive about it. That's the very fear driving Nintendo to go after this.
A year later Palword still going strong and far more awesome than anything Nintendo will ever have on their systems.
I mean... we just love pokemon old game... not the company
That's why stuff like this is always so sad to see
Yes, but not buying their new games and not supporting them is the only way for them to stop doing the terrible stuff.
True in America, but what will the Japanese court think?
Its like that saying "you cant win if you dont play"
Nintendo isnt interested in winning, theyve won in the past and instead of letting other people take a crack at it, just shut down all the competition so they're forever the winner..
Palworld literally lit the fire in me to start making my own monster catcher game. I hate how the Pokemon games have become absolute slop today, and this game gave me the fire to make something I myself would want today, and hopefully others will too. The fact Nintendo is doing this is terrifying for everyone.
Do it. Make your game.
Hard to think that the guy that made nintindo great is even still there. The company just doesn't put out great stuff anymore.
It went from "i hope the players love this" to "i hope the players pay for this" 😢
As someone who creates content only from Pokémon (In Spanish) but who also has played around 150 hours in palworld I can confirm it has never been sadder to be a Pokémon fan.
It's simple economics.
patent leveling up, patent skillpoint, patent looting, patent crafting, poatent fast travel, patent bossfight, patent difficulty setting keybinding , etc etc etc
"It reignited the same excitement I used to feel as a kid playing pokemon" As he shoots a penguin in the face with arrows 1:10
Honestly glad someone actually spoke up and said what a lot of us were thinking
Haha someone had to do it!
Sue the patent company
pokemon doesn't have claims to the capture, to the riding mounts, to NONE of this, plenty of other games have done it before the patents were made, and some like anything pokemon resembles tbh, was STOLEN by nintendo, not INVENTED by them back in the day, they are simply a REALLY REALLY dangerous precedent that if not stopped will majorly fuck the industry, IF this shit passes and so far it's passing, (look at the change to how bals work that palworld did recently...) in the immediate what will happne is that NOBODY but nintendo will be allowed basically to make pocket monster games, then other big evil corps like them willget the same idea and we'lle ventually jsut have ONE shooter, ONE rpg ONE of this ONE of that, and because NONE has competition, they'll be stagnant masterpieces of mediocracy, which, quite honestly is what nintendo pokemon games ALREADY are, we've been asking for what pokemon arceus/palworld do for decades now, we've had the tecnology for decades, nintendo jsut didn't give a shit, and it shows cos arceus could be much MUCH better than what it is and should be given the money nintendo has.
In America you can't patent a concept, an idea of something, you have to patent an actual thing. In Japan... clearly that's not the case.

Nintendo issues a lawsuit for Palworld of copying Pokemon, when they themselves copied Final Fantasy turned based RPG 🤦♂️
They copied Shin Megami Tensei too
So to update everyone on things me and some friends play and stream palworld constantly and as fellow indie devs we decided to look into this lawsuit and the patents involved so here's some news you can spread to help further understand this ongoing problem.
Note A: This lawsuit is only relevant to the Japanese gaming market, even if won the game can still technically be sold in countries outside of Japan.
Note B: The lawsuit couldn't transfer to the EU until well after considering those patent rights are now being held until the end of this debocle
Note C: There is a good chance that Nintendo won't be able to win this lawsuit as after translating a lot of Japanese Patent Law it turns out that the patents they're going after palworld for were also Ill obtained, there was criteria that was overlooked and if re-looked at would almost guarantee rejection of patent approval.
In a way it always kinda was the golden age of gaming. The Xbox 360 era was awesome
I haven't bought anything from nintindo for 20 years. They have been left behind because they dont release innovated games anymore except the new recent Zelda.
as you said at the end with us needing to call out these evil practices, that's exactly what we need to be doing, take Bethesda as an example, I LOVE Bethesda games, they hold a special place in my heart as some of the first settings I got deeply invested into after getting into gaming because of that I'll continue to buy Bethesda titles but with that comes the willingness to call out some of the corner cutting in major areas and when they pull things like releasing a game breaking update just before the release of a hugely anticipated (and directly mentioned by Bethesda prior to the update when showcasing community works) mod and then when trying to fix that update releasing an even bigger game breaking bug and not touching the game for who knows how long at this point, I'll fully admit that was a massive dick move. you can be nostalgic for something and continue to support it while also wanting better and not being quiet about it, don't be afraid of calling out poor game design, poor performance, bad writing, etc. and please for the love of actual communication don't just instantly label something as things it very well could not be, constructive criticism can go a long way
I think Nintendo just wants more Luigis
FFFFF Nintendo i will never again buy there product.
