My daughter is just starting out, and her talent agency didn't tell us any of this. She's been in acting classes, but we were in the dark about reels. This is great information. I would hire you to help my daughter through her acting career.
hi there! Thanks so much for watching. yeah, sometimes agencies don’t tell you all of this. i’ve actually got a playlist for “new to acting? start here!” which should help a lot :) check it out. 👇🏾 ruclips.net/p/PLdere6N3gXrCTLPDocqcATrBtWjtxKGp1&si=qs4VK2i20dVhVUro
yay! i'm so happy to hear it's helpful. thank you so much for viewing! sending you positive energy, love, and light, as you continue on your acting journey! let's gooooo!
This is so helpful. I'm a 16 year old beginner actor trying to just figure things out. Let me tell you, I am going to go through all of your videos now.
I am so GLAD I don't need to write to all the se productions and beg them to send me footage, or worse, try to screen record it on my computer and find out I can't thanks to softweres blocking this. :) Thank you so much
I would love a step-by-step of your demo reel please, can you please share what app you use to make your demo real because all the ones seem to just have music associated with the reel.
hi there! thank you so much! yes, the music is a bit loud in some of my earlier videos, but my newer ones should be much better! thank you for the feedback 🙌🏾🤍🙌🏾
Thanks for taking the time to make this. I'm making a demo reel for a young black actress that I worked with on a shoot for a short film concept. I'm an amateur studying directing and cinematography, so I had an idea of what I would want to see from talent. However, you brought up a few things I didn't know or consider because I am new to the game. Subbed. Good luck with your future auditions!
The main question I haven't found anywhere yet ... Do you include your character name and channel under/with the subtitle? I've seen it both ways in some actor reels ... incl. listing all Ex: 'When in Doubt' - Miss Sheba Ex: 'Always' - RUclips/Vimeo - Janice vs. just the title. Yes, no?
Rewatching this while creating my demo reel! I feel like it’s so expensive to upload all the different clips and the main reel though… This was super helpful as always ❤
hi ✨ thank you for watching! yes! unfortunately it can be a bit expensive to upload all the clips separately. you could chose your top 2 contrasting clips and upload those instead! hope this helps. congrats on your demo reel! 🙌🏾
This was very helpful! I have been wondering how I just go about this reel thing. Can I use my self-tapes in the reel but also my produced work? And for my first reel, Can I put comedy and drama in the same reel?
Hi there! I would say if it’s a character for a self tape you REALLY nailed and it’s super on brand and not well know, then i’d for sure use it as a clip on casting sites. not for a reel. a reel is for produced work! and i’d say you could use both comedy and drama to show variety if you’d like, but i would probably try ti separate them if you can! it all depends on what is in brand for you. ✨ hope this helps! 🙌🏾
I enjoyed learning and listening or listneing and learning from your video. I would love to learn more on how to do the technical part of creating the reel. Have you created more videos? Congrats on your bookings!!!
hi there! i’m so glad to heard your enjoyed this content! i haven’t created any more videos about demo reel editing, but this idea has been brought up before! it’s definitely in the queue! 🙌🏾🙌🏾
Great clip an thank you for all the tips! But i had a really hard time to understand you because of the background music. It’s a nice idea but your voice should clearly be louder than the music. Just a little tip from my side. Really love your content!
Your videos are always so helpful and informative. It can be a challenge trying to navigate and break into the industry alone so thank you!! Would you possibly be able to touch on how to find or pick monologues?😬
hi there! thank you for commenting and watching my content! 🙌🏾🙌🏾 this is a fantastic video idea! it’s definitely going in the queue. for now, id say as long as you know your brand, you can type out a monologue yourself from a target TV show that a character has that’s specific to your type and brand. For theatre, it’s all about consistently reading up on new plays! Hope this helps for now. will definitely be doing a video about this in the future! 🙌🏾😊
Lovely work and wonderful energy. (The background music is way too loud & distracting for me though. I want to hear everything you are trying to transmit!). Thank you!!
hi there! thank you so much for watching! yes, i definitely agree with you. The music was way too loud! i've fixed this issue in my more recent videos :)
@@NikkoAustenSmith Thank you! Mine is about 1:30. My rep was telling me to make it shorter, but I don’t agree with that. I’m thinking about bringing it back to the 2 minute mark.
@@WenstonBlack yeah! for sure do what makes you comfortable in your artistry. you could also clip out each scene and label it and send it to your rep so they have that “shorter” option as well.
such a good question! i’d probably stay away from popular shows like vampire diaries, riverdale, cw shows, the bear, etc. also i’d stay away from any franchise works like avatar, marvel, etc! you could always ask around as well. thanks for joining this community!

hi there! I used IMOVIE on my laptop in order to create my reel. it’s free! all i neeeded were the clips from my
projects.
This is sick, and I remember that scene in Queen Sugar! Thanks for the advice🙏🏾🙏🏾🙏🏾

hi! nah. there’s really no need for that. if casting is curious, they can always look at your resume!

The songs on your video are nice, but too loud, it should be just the background sound to your voice, but it's louder than your voice
hi there! thank you for bringing this up. i’ve taken care of this issue in all of my more recent videos :) 🙌🏾
Hello your content is great but the music is distracting and unnecessary. Take you own advice and "leave out the music you don't need it."

thanks for the feedback and for watching! this is an older video and i’ve got it under control with my newer content. thanks! 😊
