It’s actually pretty impressing that Dimitri, despite having a criminal background, has enough charm and style to keep himself connected to the right people, that keep on giving him opportunities to do things in life he enjoys and can do to earn money.
I've heard people ask for a game where Carmelita is the main character of it with her own story in the universe but at this point, I'm now left interested to see what a Dimitri game would be like. Would be pretty funny and charming to see him and his interactions with everyone he meets! 😂
I have two things about Dimitri: 1. His grandfather was a diver and made a fortune by looting sunk ships in Caribbean. Because he is French and iguana, which are natives in Caribbean (he's most likely Green iguana, or Lesser Antillean iguana), it's possible that he's from St. Barthelemy, Guadeloupe or Martinique, all of them belong to France. 2. Dimitri never spoke in Sly 4 (minus promo) and reason to that *MIGHT* be that his Finnish voice actor, Pauli Virta died in 21.12.2011. Virta was also owner of sound studio which made Finnish dub to Sly 2 and 3.
This is a very old comment but I just wanted to say that Dimitri is most likely a Marine Iguana, the only ocean-oriented aquatic lizard. The males are the deep-sea divers but they all eat underwater algae. They have much shorter snouts and rounder faces with brown eyes. They're also normally black/grey but do shift into green, orange, and/or red coloration during mating season. Considering that Panda King, the Guru, Penelope, Neyla, and Muggshot are all some shade of purple instead of black or gray, this is likely the case with Dimitri. He does have much longer fingers initially and in 3 they tried to give him a more Green Iguana shaped body (plus 4 made his head look more like other iguanas... which I'm not a fan of although I do think making his lips and eyelids purple was the right move.) They're native to the Galapagos Islands but native range doesn't really matter here. That said, there are implications in Sly 3 that different species can procreate (thanks to General Tsao being focused on lineage, although he could've adopted) and no one seemed fussed about inter-species dating (which doesn't necessarily have to produce children but this acknowledgement was never even made, implying no one is concerned.) So, personally, my head canon is that Dimitri and his sister might be half siblings and their respective fathers are either a Caribbean native iguana or some other species from that region. It's possible they have the same father and he died shortly before or after the sister was born/hatched. We also don't know if the grandmother is the one married to Reme, but given how Dimitri looked up to his grandfather it seems to me as if Reme was the only father figure in his life. Perhaps Reme had a son and it's just the economy of story-telling that kept them from confirming that, but I think the portrait implies that Dimitri's mother is Reme's daughter and she never got married (lol perhaps she also had the same kind of sex appeal and drive as her son when she was younger) which is why Dimitri has the Lousteau family name. Although it may be a mistake or an aesthetic choice, both Ruby and Dimitri were implied to have belly buttons (in Dimitri's case, it was only once during the cruise) and judging from them as well as other characters and background figures from the comics, it seems many reptiles and amphibians from this universe have hair. Also, Dimitri's baby sister is shown drinking from a bottle and while it might be some sort of nutritious baby formula with no lactose at all, nursing is an unusual action for a lizard. Again, it may simply be an aesthetic choice that was made because the alternative looked strange. But my guess is the way this world works is that hybrids are all viable (or they're technically all the same species but that's even more complicated) and they tend to lean strongly towards one species, which is why there are crocodiles, frogs, and iguanas with hair. So basically, my head canon is that the Lousteau genes are very strong even though the family has a number of other species scattered around in their lineage! And Dimitri could still be classified/considered as a Marine Iguana regardless of what his father was, although it probably doesn't matter what he'd be considered. Also, IRL marine iguanas are super cute because of their short little snouts haha. You should look at some photos if you're ever so inclined. One last thing because it just strikes me as super sweet (although really it's just kin bias) in green iguanas, from this one island hatching site, it has been observed that male siblings recently hatched from the same egg batch will often try to protect their female siblings in different ways from external threats! And apparently these little babies will all stick together for some time, until they get old enough to feel safe alone I guess and disperse. And before leaving the nesting site, each batch of babies will watch other nests during the hatching process, trying to form a consensus, to see if it's safe to come out of the nesting hole they're in. Smart little babies and more social than we give them credit for. (I've also recently learned there's a hybrid species of whiptail that is all female and reproduces asexually. Animals are weird! What I love mostly about Dimitri is that he was never truly a villain. He wasn't evil like the other Klaww Gang members. He wasn't after world domination or world destruction. He was just doing his own thing even though Sly didn't approve of it. When Sly first encounterd Dimitri in the second game the first thing Dimitry try to do was reason with Sly by offering him counterfeit money. This shows that Dimitri is not one to just simply do what any other villain would do, witch is just try to attack and kill him. In the third game when Sly met Dimitri again in Venice he kept his word and told Sly exactly where Murrey is. When Sly met him again in Holland he told Sly where the ACES flight roster is hidden. (Even tho it took some time to reason with him) Dimitri eventually joins the gang on their quest to the Cooper Vault and he even put his own life at risk to get Sly's Cane back from Dr. M. At the end of the forth game we can see Dimitri truly upset about Sly's disappearance. Dimitri had absolutly the *BEST* character growth throuout the entire series. He truly is *GREASY SWEET!* 👍
You know. In your first paragraph of your comment, that would explain why he didn't appear twice per level or episode you know with other Klaww Gang members like Rajan appearing in episodes 2 and 3 of Sly 2.
I want Dimitri to have a more active role in the gang, I love his character and design so much, but it feels like he's just "along for the ride?" I'd like to see him make a alliance with a gang or organization for money and he has a conflict with himself. Will he chose his desire for money and fame or his friends? I'm probably asking for too much.

He was my favorite character as well (aside Sly, Bentley, Murray, Muggshot, Carmelita and Penelope) because of his desing, acsent, Greasy Sweet music video and i had fun playing his underwater section hope we see more of Dimitri as playable in future Sly games

i think it's weird Dimitri wasn't playable in Sly 4 i wish he was in the final mission or they could've brought Dimitri for the adventure and have Panda King or Guru watch the thievius raccoonus idk that's just my opinion
Dimitri had such a cool design in Sly 2 and 3, but he looks so bad in Sly 4. I get that he is a reptile, so he should look like one, but it still looks so bad. Which is weird because in the trailer for Sly 4, we actually saw his old design with new graphics and he looked nice. While i liked playing him in Sly 3 as the diver, i wish we could have used him for something else because him being a diver was out of the blue for me. In Sly 3, you could choose what you wanted to say to convince the person you were talking to and i liked that. Since Dimitri is used to doing back alley deals, this could be his specialty. In the games, you either steal what you need or convince the person to give them to you either by words or doing them a favour. While the latter doesnt put you in danger, if you steal something and the person finds out it was stolen, they are bound to get suspicious. With Dimitri, you can eliminate this danger by negotiating with the person. I hope next time Dimitri appears in a Sly game, we can freely control him. Hell, since he apparently replaced Sly in the trailer, he could replace Sly while they try and find him.
Dimitri is my favourite character. I really hope we'll see more of him. If you ask me he can even become just a regular in the gang. He's that cool, cute and he fits as a member, not beeing a copy of anyone with his own skills and wackiness. . . . . . I also have this all AU where Paradox redeems himself, and they have to work together for SOME REASON and he talks with Dimitri in French, because it is really easier to understand him that way xD

Imagine if there was no Sly 5 because Sly is actually the Egyptian ancestor who started the whole Cooper thieving line. Since Sly was stuck in Ancient Egypt with no way of getting back to the future, he changes his name to Slytunkhamen Cooper and becomes the egyptian ancestor, the entire series begins and ends in a loop. Would fans be satisfied if the ending was like that I wonder?

You know, the sibling that's better at everything, higher success, grew more, etc. Or she saw what Dimitri was doing as wrong, and chose to take the right path, if she chose it. But if she did, I would to like see how would that dynamic play out, you know, her confronting Dimitri, telling him how she was mad at him, and wasn't proud of him for choosing a life of crime over her, not being that big brother that was supposed to be always there for her, and look up to. You know where I'm going with this Vi, getting into some real emotional stuff. Or, not to make this too long, she becomes a villain, much to the dismay of Dimitri, feeling guilty for being the cause of his sister's wrong choosing, not being that guidance in her life.

It’s crazy I played sky 1 first then had sly 3 only cause I was a kid then got sly 2 in the ps3 collection but my boi dimitri one of the best side character of all time
I just realised. If they had shown Dimitri in the hologram in Sly 4 to Carmelita instead of just telling her the story first. Maybe she would've been more willing to help? Since Dimitri had the Thievious Raccoonus on him, he could show her how it was all missing. Which would definitely prove it, then explaining it would be much easier. She might realise that Sly basically HAD to return to being a thief, because if he didn't, he would just stop existing. And no one would believe him if he told them that he had to borrow something from a museum, with the chance of it never being returned, because of someone meddling with time
I’m wondering if the reason why they cut the Monaco level in Sly 2 was because they had already done a casino level in the first game and they didn’t want to repeat themselves, also how cool would it be if in Sly 5 there was a mission revolving around Dimitri’s sister maybe she wants revenge on the Cooper gang for defeating her brother and her plan could be that she wants to finish what he started.

Dimitri is cool and funny character in the sly cooper franchise. I enjoy playing as him in sly 3. I think he deserves to be a good guy and help out sly with the cooper vault job as well. Even though he is annoying and outgoing at all times he make a good gang clown for the team. I think Sucker Punch did a great job making him a crazy villain/anti-hero comedy character that people should enjoy for the first generation new comers and old generation as well who play the game in the past in PS2 (which i miss sooooooooo deaply much 😭) deserve to play the game and deeply understand who he is and why and how he become a criminal in the first place. OncecI have the Sly cooper collection I'm going to enjoy the deep sea diving mission on HD remastered gameplay. I'm soo excited.😄😇

something really weird I've noticed about sly 2 as well, not so much Dimitri, but rajan and jean bison are the only klaww gang villains not seen going to jail. I mean for Rajan it's obviously he would've been sent to jail. But Jean Bison, was he just left there after Bentley and Sly defeated him or something like that? what do you think vivi?

What I'm wondering about, how could his cane ONLY open the vault? Is there like magic involved we don't know about? Like a spell? Afterall, Sly has dark magic in the series and voodoo stuff.

(In real life of course it's sterile but it's healthy, like a mule.) I just thought that was also interesting and as you can see, it inspired me.
I fell down a research rabbit hole lol I'm sorry. I've read way more websites and research papers than I ever meant to, but it was really fun and now it's just oozing out of my brain... One last thing because it just strikes me as super sweet (although really it's just kin bias) in green iguanas, from this one island hatching site, it has been observed that male siblings recently hatched from the same egg batch will often try to protect their female siblings in different ways from external threats! And apparently these little babies will all stick together for some time, until they get old enough to feel safe alone I guess and disperse. And before leaving the nesting site, each batch of babies will watch other nests during the hatching process, trying to form a consensus, to see if it's safe to come out of the nesting hole they're in. Smart little babies and more social than we give them credit for.
(I've also recently learned there's a hybrid species of whiptail that is all female and reproduces asexually. Animals are weird! But super cool. lol maybe Jesus is a lizard in the Sly Cooper universe.)

What I love mostly about Dimitri is that he was never truly a villain. He wasn't evil like the other Klaww Gang members. He wasn't after world domination or world destruction. He was just doing his own thing even though Sly didn't approve of it.
When Sly first encounterd Dimitri in the second game the first thing Dimitry try to do was reason with Sly by offering him counterfeit money. This shows that Dimitri is not one to just simply do what any other villain would do, witch is just try to attack and kill him.
In the third game when Sly met Dimitri again in Venice he kept his word and told Sly exactly where Murrey is. When Sly met him again in Holland he told Sly where the ACES flight roster is hidden. (Even tho it took some time to reason with him)
Dimitri eventually joins the gang on their quest to the Cooper Vault and he even put his own life at risk to get Sly's Cane back from Dr. M.
At the end of the forth game we can see Dimitri truly upset about Sly's disappearance.
Dimitri had absolutly the *BEST* character growth throuout the entire series. He truly is *GREASY SWEET!* 👍
You know. In your first paragraph of your comment, that would explain why he didn't appear twice per level or episode you know with other Klaww Gang members like Rajan appearing in episodes 2 and 3 of Sly 2.
That line that Dimitri said in sly 3 when they made the deal in episode 3, "old school movie mafia type", makes a lot more sense now.
I want Dimitri to have a more active role in the gang, I love his character and design so much, but it feels like he's just "along for the ride?" I'd like to see him make a alliance with a gang or organization for money and he has a conflict with himself. Will he chose his desire for money and fame or his friends?

Dimitri had such a cool design in Sly 2 and 3, but he looks so bad in Sly 4. I get that he is a reptile, so he should look like one, but it still looks so bad. Which is weird because in the trailer for Sly 4, we actually saw his old design with new graphics and he looked nice.
While i liked playing him in Sly 3 as the diver, i wish we could have used him for something else because him being a diver was out of the blue for me. In Sly 3, you could choose what you wanted to say to convince the person you were talking to and i liked that. Since Dimitri is used to doing back alley deals, this could be his specialty. In the games, you either steal what you need or convince the person to give them to you either by words or doing them a favour. While the latter doesnt put you in danger, if you steal something and the person finds out it was stolen, they are bound to get suspicious. With Dimitri, you can eliminate this danger by negotiating with the person.
I hope next time Dimitri appears in a Sly game, we can freely control him. Hell, since he apparently replaced Sly in the trailer, he could replace Sly while they try and find him.
The voice actor was cool and his last appearance is in thieves in time.

Imagine if there was no Sly 5 because Sly is actually the Egyptian ancestor who started the whole Cooper thieving line. Since Sly was stuck in Ancient Egypt with no way of getting back to the future, he changes his name to Slytunkhamen Cooper and becomes the egyptian ancestor, the entire series begins and ends in a loop. Would fans be satisfied if the ending was like that I wonder?

But if she did, I would to like see how would that dynamic play out, you know, her confronting Dimitri, telling him how she was mad at him, and wasn't proud of him for choosing a life of crime over her, not being that big brother that was supposed to be always there for her, and look up to.

I just realised. If they had shown Dimitri in the hologram in Sly 4 to Carmelita instead of just telling her the story first. Maybe she would've been more willing to help? Since Dimitri had the Thievious Raccoonus on him, he could show her how it was all missing. Which would definitely prove it, then explaining it would be much easier. She might realise that Sly basically HAD to return to being a thief, because if he didn't, he would just stop existing. And no one would believe him if he told them that he had to borrow something from a museum, with the chance of it never being returned, because of someone meddling with time

I’m wondering if the reason why they cut the Monaco level in Sly 2 was because they had already done a casino level in the first game and they didn’t want to repeat themselves, also how cool would it be if in Sly 5 there was a mission revolving around Dimitri’s sister maybe she wants revenge on the Cooper gang for defeating her brother and her plan could be that she wants to finish what he started.

Dimitri is cool and funny character in the sly cooper franchise. I enjoy playing as him in sly 3. I think he deserves to be a good guy and help out sly with the cooper vault job as well. Even though he is annoying and outgoing at all times he make a good gang clown for the team. I think Sucker Punch did a great job making him a crazy villain/anti-hero comedy character that people should enjoy for the first generation new comers and old generation as well who play the game in the past in PS2 (which i miss sooooooooo deaply much 😭) deserve to play the game and deeply understand who he is and why and how he become a criminal in the first place. OncecI have the Sly cooper collection I'm going to enjoy the deep sea diving mission on HD remastered gameplay. I'm soo excited.😄😇
